However, the invention may be embodied in many different forms and should not be construed as limited to the representative embodiments set forth herein. Each example is provided by way of explanation of the invention, not limitation of the invention. In fact, it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various modifications and variations can be made in the present invention without departing from the scope of the invention. For instance, features illustrated or described as part of one embodiment can be used with another embodiment to yield a still further embodiment. It is envisioned that other embodiments may perform similar functions and/or achieve similar results. Any and all such equivalent embodiments and examples are within the scope of the present invention and are intended to be covered by the appended claims.
[0027] The exemplary embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be both thorough and complete and will fully convey the scope of the invention and enable one of ordinary skill in the art to make, use, and practice the invention. The word exemplary is used herein to mean serving as an example, instance, or illustration. Any implementation described herein as exemplary is not necessarily to be construed as preferred or advantageous over other implementations.
[0028] The terms coupled, fixed, attached to, communicatively coupled to, operatively coupled to, and the like refer to both direct coupling, fixing, attaching, communicatively coupling, and operatively coupling as well as indirect coupling, fixing, attaching, communicatively coupling, and operatively coupling through one or more intermediate components or features, unless otherwise specified herein. Communicatively coupled to and operatively coupled to can refer to physically and/or electrically related components.
[0029] As used herein, the terms first, second, and third may be used interchangeably to distinguish one component from another and are not intended to signify location or importance of the individual components. The singular forms a, an, and the include plural references unless the context clearly dictates otherwise.
[0030] Approximating language, as used herein throughout the specification and claims, is applied to modify any quantitative representation that could permissibly vary without resulting in a change in the basic function to which it is related. Accordingly, a value modified by a term or terms, such as about, approximately, and substantially, are not to be limited to the precise value specified. In at least some instances, the approximating language may correspond to the precision of an instrument for measuring the value, or the precision of the methods or machines for constructing or manufacturing the components and/or systems. [0034] It will be readily apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art that other suitable shapes may be utilized equally, provided that a portion of a cover/dome structure is present and a portion of the cover/dome structure is cut away or missing (e.g., embodiments of the partial cover 10 including a partial dome 12 disclosed herein), thereby providing the user access adjacent to or underneath the partial cover 10. The partial cover 10 may be sized such that it may be disposed over a plate, bowl, or the like (see, e.g., dinnerware 14 of
[0035] In the exemplary embodiments illustrated, the partial cover 10 is disposed over half of the dinnerware 14, providing the user with access to the open half of the dinnerware 14 and protecting food disposed on the covered half of the plate from foreign particles. Thus and a shown, embodiments of the partial cover 10 may include a bottom (e.g., bottom edge 16 of

[0038] The peripheral outer wall(s) 22 generally defines a height of the partial dome 12 and/or partial cover 10. Thus, in various embodiments, the peripheral outer wall(s) 22 may define a non-zero angle relative to the support surface when the partial cover 10 is in use. In other words, the peripheral outer wall(s) 22 may be at least partially vertically oriented during use. In at least one embodiment and as shown particularly in
[0039] Embodiments of the partial dome 12 may include a top planar surface (top surface 24) extending between peripheral outer walls 22 or between portion of a peripheral outer wall 22 and defining a top of the partial dome 12 when the partial cover 10 is in use. The top planar surface 24 is configured to actually cover the food disposed on or in the dinnerware 14 when the partial cover 10 is in use. The top surface 24 may generally define the same partial shape (e.g., a projected shape for non-planar top surfaces 24) as the bottom edge 16 and/or peripheral outer wall 22. In some embodiments and as shown in
[0040] As shown generally in

[0044] In various embodiments, surfaces of the partial cover 10 may be curved in order to provide easy clean up (e.g., limiting the number and/or severity of crevasses and the like requiring more effort to properly clean). However, embodiments of the partial cover 10 with square corners may generally have improved packing efficiency, which improves storability and reduces shipping volumes. Thus, embodiments may define bounds on ratios of defined curvatures/radii to balance such considerations.
[0045] In one example, the lip protrusion 28 may define a lip radius of curvature, and the fillet 30 may define a fillet radius of curvature. In some such embodiments, a ratio of the fillet radius of curvature over the lip radius of curvature may be at least 3.5 and/or less than 9. In additional or alternative embodiments, the ratio of the fillet radius of curvature over the lip radius of curvature may be at least 4 and/or less than 8.5. In additional or alternative embodiments, the ratio of the fillet radius of curvature over the lip radius of curvature may be at least 4.5 and/or less than 8. In additional or alternative embodiments, the ratio of the fillet radius of curvature over the lip radius of curvature may be at least 5 and/or less than 7.5. In additional or alternative embodiments, the ratio of the fillet radius of curvature over the lip radius of curvature may be at least 5.5 and/or less than 6.5. In additional or alternative embodiments, the ratio of the fillet radius of curvature over the lip radius of curvature may be 6 or approximately 6.
[0046] In an additional or alternative example, a ratio of a radius of the partial circle (e.g., the radius of the half-circle) of the top surface 24 (top radius) over the fillet radius of curvature may be at least 8 and/or less than 34. Additionally or alternatively, the ratio of the top radius over the fillet radius may be at least 10 and/or less than 32. Additionally or alternatively, the ratio of the top radius over the fillet radius may be at least 12 and/or less than 30. Additionally or alternatively, the ratio of the top radius over the fillet radius may be at least 14 and/or less than 28. Additionally or alternatively, the ratio of the top radius over the fillet radius may be at least 16 and/or less than 26. Additionally or alternatively, the ratio of the top radius over the fillet radius may be at least 18 and/or less than 24. Additionally or alternatively, the ratio of the top radius over the fillet radius may be at least 20 and/or less than 22. Additionally or alternatively, the ratio of the top radius over the fillet radius may be 21 or approximately 21.
