Abstract

A hinge assembly for a foldable cycle frame includes a front plate member configured to be connected to a first part of the cycle frame; a rear plate member configured to be connected to a second part of the cycle frame; and a middle plate member configured to releasably couple the front plate member and the rear plate together. The hinge assembly further includes a first pin member configured to secure the front plate member to the middle plate member; and a second pin member configured to secure the rear plate member to the middle plate member.

Claims

1. A hinge assembly for a cycle frame comprising: a front plate member configured to be connected to a first part of the cycle frame; a rear plate member configured to be connected to a second part of the cycle frame; and a middle plate member configured to releasably couple the front plate member and the rear plate together, wherein the hinge assembly further comprises: a first pin member configured to secure the front plate member to the middle plate member; and a second pin member configured to secure the rear plate member to the middle plate member.

2. The hinge assembly according to claim 1, wherein the first pin member is further configured to be removed from the front plate member and the middle plate member and enable the front plate member to be separated from the middle plate member.

The hinge assembly according to claim 1, wherein the middle plate member comprises a hinge member that is configured to be coupled to a hinge member of the rear plate member and wherein a removal of the second pin member is configured to enable the rear plate member to rotate with respect to the middle plate member.

4. The hinge assembly according to claim 1, wherein the first pin member and the second pin member comprise spring biased ring pins.

5. The hinge assembly according to claim 1, wherein the rear plate member is rotatably secured to the middle plate member.

6. The hinge assembly according to claim 1, wherein the front plate member further comprises a flange member, the flange member configured to be received in a corresponding flange receiver of the middle plate member.

7. The hinge assembly according to claim 1, wherein one side of the rear plate member comprises a hinge member and an opposing side of the rear plate member comprises a receiver configured to receive the second pin member.

8. The hinge assembly according to claim 7, wherein one side of the front plate member comprises a receiver configured to receive the first pin member.

9. The hinge assembly according to claim 8, wherein one side of the middle plate member comprises a receiver configured to receive the second pin member and an opposing side of the middle plate member comprises a hinge member configured to pivotally engage with the hinge member of the rear plate member and a receiver configured to receive the first pin member.

10. A cycle frame comprising: a frame assembly comprising a first frame section and a second frame section; and a hinge assembly disposed between the first frame section and the second frame section, the hinge assembly comprising: a first plate member configured to be connected to the first frame section; a third plate member configured to be connected to the second frame section; and a second plate member disposed between the first plate member and the third plate member, the second plate member configured to releasably couple the first plate member and the third plate member together.

11. The cycle frame according to claim 10, wherein the hinge assembly comprises: a first pin member configured to secure the first plate member to the second plate member; and a second pin member configured to secure the third plate member to the second plate member.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DISCLOSED EMBODIMENTS

[0036] The following detailed description illustrates exemplary aspects of the disclosed embodiments and ways in which they can be implemented. Although some modes of carrying out the aspects of the disclosed embodiments have been disclosed, those skilled in the art would recognize that other embodiments for carrying out or practising the aspects of the disclosed embodiments are also possible.

[0037] FIG. 1 illustrates an exemplary apparatus 10 incorporating aspects of the disclosed embodiments. The apparatus 10 generally comprises a hinge assembly that is interposed between two sections of a cycle frame and is configured to enable the frame to be folded and/or separated. The aspects of the disclosed embodiments enable a cycle, such as a bicycle or tricycle, to be folded or separated into two or more sections. This is advantageous when there is a need for storage or transport of a cycle, for example.

[0038] In the example of FIG. 1, the apparatus 10, which will generally be referred to as hinge assembly 10 herein, comprises a first plate or plate member 12, a second plate or plate member 14 and a third plate or plate member 16. For the purposes of the description herein, the first plate member 12 will be referred to as a “front plate or member 12”, the second member 14 as a “middle plate or member 14” and the third member 16 as a “rear plate or member 16.” The designations associated with the different plate members are merely for descriptive purposes.
