    Abstract

    The invention relates to physiotherapy and may be used in health and fitness exercises. A massage device for acting on the spinal muscles comprises: interchangeable massage elements and a body with sockets, into which said elements can be mounted; said body having three sides, each of which permits mounting of said body on a horizontal surface; wherein the planes tangential to each of the sides and coincident with the horizontal surface that provides for the mounting of each of the sides together form a dihedral angle of approximately 6015 degrees, with all of the dihedral angles adding up to a total of 180 degrees; the sides of the body are connected to each other by means of three edge surfaces, each of which has lateral portions for the paraspinal areas of the spine and a medial portion for the spinal column, which is recessed in the direction of the longitudinal axis of the body relative to said lateral portions; the sockets are situated in the lateral portions of each of the edge areas; and the three edge surfaces together with the massage elements mounted in the sockets form massage surfaces that correspond to the position of the spinal organs to be massaged in three regions of the spine. The interchangeability of the massage elements and the use of a range of interchangeable massage heads of different shapes, sizes and firmness provide for precise control of the force, depth and direction of the therapeutic mechanical action to be applied to the paravertebral muscles.

    REALISATION OF INVENTION

    [0044] As shown in FIGS. 1-6, the massager for paravertebral muscles of the back, for at least three regions of the spine, comprises the following parts:

    [0045] detachable massage heads 1, 2, 4, and 5;

    [0046] body 3 with sockets for the said massage heads;

    [0047] the said body 3 has three sides, each of which ensures firm installation of the body on a horizontal surface, and the planes tangential to each of the said sides and coinciding with the said horizontal surface, on which firm installation of each side is secured, form with one another a two-sided angle of approximately 6015 degrees, while the sum total of all the two-sided angles amounts to 180 degrees;

    [0048] the said sides of the body 3 are conjugated with one another by the means of three rib surfaces, each of which has lateral parts for paravertebral regions of the back and a medial part for the spine column, sunk along the longitudinal axis of the body with relative to the said lateral parts;

    [0049] the said sockets are arranged in the lateral parts of each of the said rib zones;

    [0050] the said three rib surfaces, together with the said massage heads form massage surfaces corresponding to position of massaged organs of the three regions of the spine;

    [0051] the butt ends of the body carry sockets that give an opportunity of securing handles and/or plugs 6.

    [0052] As shown in FIGS. 2 and 4, the body of the massager is similar in shape to a six-sided prism. The three non-adjacent sides of the prism carry three slots where three pairs of working heads can be secured. The prism is manufactured, using the method of intersection of three spheres, resulting in the formation of a three-sided figure, which has three ribs and three sides. The six-sided prism formed by truncation of the ribs of the three-sided prism. The sides of the body have a complex spherical shape, which allows the massager standing on a surface to have a degree of freedom in two planes with respect to the surface and to the axis vertical to the surface.

    [0053] The body contains a longitudinal cavity open on both ends.

    [0054] Massage heads are made out of elastic materials of different hardness. Pairs of heads are secured on an appropriate side. Massage heads can also be secured on a side that does not correspond to the profile of the head, or else heads can be secured randomly in order to select required distances between massage heads.

    [0055] The butt plugs are connected with one another with a rope run through the body of the massager. The plugs taken out of the body together with the rope form a flexible component with lugs, can be used as a handle for moving the massager along the spine column in a lying down position.

    [0056] When the plugs are secured, the rope is placed in the cavity in the body of the massager.

    [0057] Butt end plugs carry a massage protuberance, designed for localised effect on muscular tissue.

    [0058] To assemble the massager appropriate pairs of massage heads are secured in the slots of the body.

    [0059] The assembled massager (with massage heads secured in place) has three spherical bases and three pairs of heads.

    [0060] To use the massager, it is placed on an even horizontal surface with one of the spherical sides down in such a fashion that one of the sides of the body faces upwards. The user, in a lying down position, leans an elbow on the massager in such a fashion that one of the sides would rest against paravertebral muscles of the spine. The effect of massage on massaged areas is defined by the user's own weight, and it can be modified by installing heads of different hardness, thus increasing or decreasing the contact area.

    [0061] There is an option of installing permanent magnets directly underneath the massage heads. Magnets generate a powerful magnetic field in the massage head/muscle tissue contact area, which generates a good therapeutic effect (magnetic therapy), producing the following results for example: [0062] stimulates blood flow, improves oxygen carrying capacity of blood; [0063] improves macro- and microrheology of blood by changing (usually reducing) viscosity; [0064] changing velocity of calcium ions, which produces two results: calcium reaches the damaged bone tissue (fractured for example) faster, speeding up its recovery, on the one hand, while on the other hand, calcium is washed out faster from an arthritic joint.

    [0065] Using the massager equipped with detachable massage components exerts a careful and gentle effect while correcting impaired functions of the spine, eliminates hypertension in muscles, ligaments and joint capsules, restores mobility in each vertebral-motor segment, frees pinched spinal cord nerves. Delicate effect of the massager is ensured by the use of working heads of different hardness. The massager also exerts its effect on Shako's points, located symmetrically on both sides of the spinal column, which has a positive effect on the kidneys and urogenital system.

    [0066] The deep massaging effect on paravertebral regions stimulates kinesthetic sensors of deep groups of muscles of the back, fascia, joints and ligaments of the spine, stretches out shrunk muscles and opens facet joints and improves their flexibility. Muscle tone of paravertebral muscles becomes normalized.

    [0067] The massager works both on the segment and joint levels, which reduces tension in extensor muscles of the back and opens the blocked spinal region.

    [0068] A deep effect on paravertebral regions, which represent reflex zones, through which zones functioning of internal organs is controlled, improves hemodynamics and trophism of the paravertebral zone.

    [0069] Relieving myofascial pain syndrome significantly produces a significantly emphasised parasympathetic effect on cardiac function and hemodynamics, which is accompanied by decreased frequency of maladaptive reactions to an orthotest.

    [0070] After a rehabilitation course with the use of the massager on paravertebral muscles, decreased blood pressure, tension index and calculated parameters of the heat index are observed.

    [0071] Relief of paravertebral muscles with a massager reduces vertebrogenic pain syndrome and helps to prevent motor vegetative disorders under the condition of continuous building up the muscle corset with specialized physical exercises.
