Abstract
A frothing device (1) to froth milk, comprising a boiler (2) for producing vapor; a pump (11) for producing pressurized air; air-vapor delivering means (4) to deliver air and vapor to the milk (18); the boiler (2) and the air pump (11) are connected to a tank (6) for separately feeding vapor and air to the mixing tank (6); the tank is connected to the mentioned air-vapor delivering means (4) to deliver air and vapor to the beverage.
Claims
1. Frothing device (1) to froth a beverage, particularly milk, comprising: vapor producing means (2); pressurized-air producing means (3); air-vapor delivering means (4) to deliver air and vapor to the beverage; characterized in that said vapor producing means (2) and said pressurized-air producing means (3) are connected to a tank (6) for respectively feeding vapor and air to said tank (6), and in that said tank is connected to said air-vapor delivering means (4) to deliver air and vapor to the beverage.
2. Device according to claim 1, wherein said tank is provided with a pressure sensor (10).
3. Device according to claim 2, wherein said pressure sensor (10) is selected from a pressure transducer and a pressure switch or a combination thereof.
4. Device according to one of the preceding claims, wherein the volume of the tank is at least 120 cc, preferably comprised between 120 and 250 cc.

Device according to one of the preceding claims, wherein said pressurized-air producing means (3) comprise a pump (11) connected to said tank (6) through a duct (12), said duct being provided with at least one intercepting means, preferably selected from a flow regulator (13) and a non-return valve (14) or a combination thereof.
6. Device according to one of the preceding claims, further comprising means (15) to detect the beverage temperature during frothing of the beverage.

Device according to one of the preceding claims, further comprising: a connecting duct (5) to connect said vapor producing means (2) to said tank (6); a connecting duct (7) to connect said tank (6) to said delivering means (4) and intercepting means (8, 9) arranged on said connecting ducts (5, 7).
8. Device according to one of the preceding claims, further comprising a control unit (16) connected with at least: said vapor intercepting means (9), said air pump (11) and said temperature sensor (15) of the beverage.
9. Device according to claim 8, wherein said control unit is connected with said pressure sensor (10) of said tank (6).
10. Device according to one of claims 2 to 9, wherein said pressure sensor (10) is connected in series with said intercepting means (8) to intercept the air-vapor mixture in order to operate the activation of said intercepting means (8).
11. Device according to one of the preceding claims, wherein at least one of said tank (6), said vapor intercepting means (9) and said intercepting means (8) to intercept the air-vapor flow, is provided with a drain (17) for condensed water.
12. A machine for preparing beverages, characterized by comprising a frothing device according to one of the preceding claims.

Process for frothing a beverage, particularly milk, with a device according to one of claims 1 to 11, said device comprising vapor producing means (2) and pressurized-air producing means (3) connected to a tank (6); a duct for connecting said tank to air-vapor delivering means (4) to deliver air and vapor to the beverage; a pressure sensor (10) or other pressure detecting means to detect the pressure on said tank (6) and intercepting means (8, 9) to intercept the vapor flow to said tank and the air-vapor flow from said tank, characterized by comprising the steps of: feeding vapor and air separately to said mixing tank (6); detecting the pressure in said tank (6); activating said intercepting means when a preset pressure in the mixing tank (6) has been reached, in order to connect said tank (6) with said air-vapor delivering means (4) to deliver air and vapor to the beverage (18); stopping the delivery of vapor and air.
14. Process according to claim 13, wherein said preset pressure is comprised in the range between 0.6 bar and 1.8 bars, preferably between 0.7 bar and 1.4 bars, more preferably 1.1-1.2 bars.
15. Process according to claim 13 or 14, comprising the step of comparing the pressure value signal generated by said pressure sensor (10) with a pressure value stored in said control unit (16).

Process according to one of claims 13 to 15, comprising the steps of: detecting the temperature of said beverage (18) and stopping at least said vapor delivery when a preset temperature has been reached, said temperature being preferably comprised in the range between 50 C. and 80 C., preferably between 55 C. and 65 C.
17. Process according to one of claims 13 to 16, comprising the step of delivering only air at least at the end of the frothing process in order to clean said air-vapor delivering means (4).
18. A non-transitory data medium, adapted to the read by a computer and/or a logic unit (16), said medium comprising instructions that, once read by a control unit of a device according to one of claims 1 to 11, cause said device (1) to carry out the steps of: comparing the signal value with a pressure value stored in said control unit; activating said intercepting means when a preset pressure in the mixing tank (6) has been reached, in order to connect said tank (6) with said air-vapor delivering means (4) to deliver air and vapor to the beverage (18); stopping the delivery of vapor and air.

Beside the steam wand, the temperature probe, with a transducer connected to CPU, detects the milk temperature; when the planned temperature is reached, comprised in the range between 50 C. and 80 C., preferably between 55 C. and 65 C., the CPU 16 closes the valve 9 and the electrovalve 8. In other words, generally the feed of air and vapor are dependent from each other. In an embodiment, the control unit, CPU, in order to allow cleaning of the hydraulic circuit from the mixing tank 6 to the delivering means 4 at the end of the cycle, may keep the air pump active and the electrovalve 8 open for a few seconds.
