    DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0019] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 6 thereof, a new commode device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

[0020] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 6, the integrated commode reclining chair device 10 generally comprises a recliner 12, which is padded. The recliner 12 comprises a pair of armrests 14, which are attached singly to opposed sides 16 of a frame 18, which is partially visible in FIG. 4. A seat 20 is attached to the frame 18 and extends substantially between the armrests 14. The recliner 12 thus is configured to seat a user. A backrest 22 and a footrest 24 are attached to the frame 18 and are hingable relative to the seat 20. The backrest 22 thus is selectively reclinable and the footrest 24 is selectively extensible. Padding 26 is attached to the armrests 14, the seat 20, the backrest 22, and the footrest 24. The padding 26 may comprise or more of memory foam, springs, or the like.

[0021] An actuator 28 is attached to a respective one of the armrests 14 and is operationally engaged to the frame 18. The actuator 28 is configured to be actuated to selectively position the backrest 22 in a reclined position and the footrest 24 in an extended position. The actuator 28 may comprise a lever 30, as shown in FIG. 3, push buttons, or the like. The present invention also anticipates the recliner 12 comprising one or more motors, which are operationally engaged to the frame 18 and which effect movement of the backrest 22 and the footrest 24. The recliner 12 also may be lift enabled. Such recliners 12 are well known to those skilled in the art of reclining chairs and may comprise a variety of configurations and mechanisms, all of which are anticipated by the present invention.

[0022] The seat 20 comprises a housing 32, which defines an interior space 34 that is substantially cuboid. A front 36 of the housing 32 is open and an aperture 38 is positioned in a top 40 of the housing 32. The aperture 38 may be ovoid, as shown in FIG. 2, circular, or the like. As will become apparent, the aperture 38 being ovoid increases comfort for the user as it is shaped to complement contours of the user.

[0023] A tray 42 is selectively insertable into the front 36 of the housing 32 so that the tray 42 substantially occupies the interior space 34. The tray 42 being accessible from the front 36 of the housing 36, as shown in FIG. 3, allows for more diverse positioning of the recliner 12 relative to prior art commode devices wherein access is from their sides.

[0024] A grip 44 is attached to a front facet 46 of the tray 42 and is configured to be grasped in a hand of a user, positioning the user to selectively extract the tray 42 from the housing 32. The grip 44 may comprise a slot 48, as shown in FIGS. 1 and 4, which is positioned in the front facet 46 proximate to the top 40 of the housing 32, or other gripping means, such as, but not limited to, handles, straps, or the like. The tray 42 is configured to collect feces and urine that is expelled by the user through the aperture 38. When convenient, the tray 42 can be extracted from the housing 32, cleaned, and replaced for subsequent use.

[0025] The present invention is anticipated to be useful for a user who suffers from incontinence or who is mobility challenged. The integrated commode reclining chair device 10 allows the user to sit comfortably for extended periods, such as when watching television, without needing to worry about soiling the seat 20 due to a bout of incontinence or a mobility issue that prevents them from going to a bathroom.

[0026] In use, the integrated commode reclining chair device 10 enables a method of using an integrated commode reclining chair device 50. A first step 52 of the method 50 is sitting of a user upon a seat 20 of a recliner 12 of an integrated commode reclining chair device 10. A second step 54 of the method 50 is actuating an actuator 28 to selectively recline a backrest 22 and to extend a footrest 24 of the recliner 12. A third step 56 of the method 50 is utilizing a tray 42 for collecting feces and urine expelled by the user through an aperture 38 positioned in a housing 32 that is integral to the seat 20.

[0027] The method 50 may comprises a fourth step 58, which entails grasping a grip 44 that is attached to the tray 42 and extracting the tray 42 from the housing 32. A fifth step 60 of the method 50 is cleaning the tray 42. A sixth step 62 of the method 50 is reinserting the tray 42 into the housing 32.

[0028] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0029] Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word comprising is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article a does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
