Abstract
Surface mount assemblies for mounting to a solar panel frame to an installation surface are disclosed. In some embodiments, a base is coupled to a height-adjustable rail mount to slidably couple a track with a fastener assembly that includes of a fastener, spacer, and nut. In some embodiments, a base is coupled to a rail mount and positioned on a base plate to slidably couple to a surface track with a fastener assembly that includes a first fastener slidably coupled to a groove formed by the track, spacer, and second fastener. In some embodiments, a base is coupled to a rail mount for slidably coupling the rail to a height-adjustable base with a fastener. In some embodiments, a two-configuration, track-mounted, rectangular base is designed with a rectangular base having a pair of short-sided legs, a pair of long-sided legs, and a fastener for engaging outer surfaces of a track.
Claims
1. A surface mount assembly for mounting to a solar panel frame to an installation surface, comprising: a base configured with at least one aperture; a track; a plate configured with a raised portion, wherein the raised portion includes at least one aperture extending away from a surface of the raised portion; and a fastener assembly configured for coupling the base to the track and comprised of a first fastener, a second fastener, and a spacer, wherein the first fastener extends upwardly from the track to threadably engage a threaded aperture of a first end of the spacer, and wherein the second fastener extends downwardly through one base aperture and one plate aperture to threadably engage a threaded aperture of a second end.
2. The surface mount assembly of claim 1, wherein the track is coupled to an installation surface.
3. The surface mount assembly of claim 1, wherein the base is L-shaped, wherein a horizontal arm of the L-shaped base is configured with the one base aperture.
4. The fastener assembly of claim 1, wherein the threaded aperture of a first end and the threaded aperture of a second end are the same aperture or individual apertures.
5. The surface mount assembly of claim 1, wherein the second fastener is comprised of a threaded cap and a threaded insert, wherein the threads of the second fastener are first threads of the threaded insert, and wherein second threads of the threaded insert engage threads of the threaded cap.
6. The surface mount assembly of claim 5, wherein the threaded cap is further comprised of a first portion and a second portion, wherein threads of the threaded cap are located in the first portion.
7. The surface mount assembly of claim 6, wherein an outer surface of the second portion is conically flared.
8. The surface mount assembly of claim 6, wherein the first portion and the second portion are tiered.
9. The surface mount assembly of claim 5, wherein the one plate aperture is a threaded aperture extending substantially perpendicularly away from the surface of the raised portion, wherein the second threads of the threaded insert further engage threads of the threaded aperture.
10. The surface mount assembly of claim 9, wherein a second plate aperture is a threaded aperture extending substantially perpendicularly away from the surface of the raised portion.
11. The surface mount assembly of claim 9, further comprising: a threaded cap configured to threadably engage the second plate aperture.
12. The surface mount assembly of claim 11, wherein the threaded cap is comprised of an outer shell, and a concentric, threaded cylindrical member extending substantially perpendicularly from a horizontal inner surface of the outer shell and substantially parallel to a cylindrical vertical inner surface of the outer shell to form a cylindrical groove for covering a cylindrical wall of the second plate aperture.
13. A fastener assembly, comprising: a first fastener, a second fastener, and a spacer, wherein threads of the first fastener engage a threaded aperture of a first end of the spacer, and wherein threads of the second fastener engage a threaded aperture of a second end.
14. The fastener assembly of claim 13, wherein the threaded aperture of a first end and the threaded aperture of a second end are the same aperture or individual apertures.
15. The fastener assembly of claim 13, wherein the second fastener is comprised of a threaded cap and a threaded insert, wherein the threads of the second fastener are first threads of the threaded insert, and wherein second threads of the threaded insert engage threads of the threaded cap.
16. The fastener assembly of claim 15, wherein the threaded cap is further comprised of a first portion and a second portion, wherein threads of the threaded cap are located in the first portion.
17. The fastener assembly of claim 16, wherein an outer surface of the second portion is conically flared.
18. The fastener assembly of claim 16, wherein the first portion and the second portion are tiered.
19. The fastener assembly of claim 15, further comprising: a plate comprising of a threaded aperture extending substantially perpendicularly away from the plate, wherein the second threads of the threaded insert further engage threads of the threaded aperture.
20. A threaded cap, comprising: an outer shell, and a concentric, threaded cylindrical member extending substantially perpendicularly from a horizontal inner surface of the outer shell and substantially parallel to a cylindrical vertical inner surface of the outer shell to form a cylindrical groove.
21. The threaded cap of claim 20, wherein the outer shell is cylindrical.
22. A track, comprising: a first vertical wall; a second vertical wall; and a horizontal wall, and a horizontal flange, such that an intersection the first vertical wall and the second vertical wall forms a corner, the first vertical wall extends from the corner until reaching a first flange, the horizontal wall extends substantially perpendicularly away from first vertical wall until reaching a second flange, the horizontal flange extends substantially perpendicularly away from a location on the first vertical wall between the corner and the first flange until reaching a third flange at its distal end, and the second vertical wall extends substantially perpendicularly away from the horizontal flange and the horizontal wall until reaching a fourth flange.

The track of claim 22, wherein the horizontal flange is comprised of a first portion, a second portion, and a third portion, wherein the first portion extends substantially perpendicularly away from the first vertical wall until reaching a first end of the second portion, the second portion extends upwardly away from the first portion until reaching a second end of the second portion, and the third portion extends away from the second portion until reaching the third flange.

The track of claim 22, wherein the first flange extends substantially perpendicularly away from the first vertical wall and in the same direction as the horizontal wall extends from the first vertical wall, the second flange extends substantially perpendicularly away from the horizontal wall and in the same direction as the first vertical wall extends from the corner, the third flange extends substantially perpendicularly away from the horizontal flange and towards the horizontal wall, and the fourth flange extends substantially perpendicularly away from the second vertical wall and towards the first vertical wall.
25. The track of claim 22, wherein a gap formed between the first and fourth flanges is equal to a gap formed between the second and third flanges.
26. The track of claim 22, wherein horizontal surfaces on the first and fourth flanges are textured, and vertical surfaces on the second and third flanges are textured.
27. The track of claim 22, wherein horizontal surfaces on the first and fourth flanges are collinear with each other, and vertical surfaces on the second and third flanges are collinear with each other.
28. The track of claim 22, wherein a first lengthwise groove is formed by the first flange and a protrusion of an inner surface of the first vertical wall approximately adjacent to the first flange, a second lengthwise groove is formed by the second flange and a protrusion of an inner surface of the horizontal wall approximately adjacent to the second flange, a third lengthwise groove is formed by the third flange and a protrusion of an inner surface of the horizontal flange approximately adjacent to the third flange, and a fourth lengthwise groove is formed by the fourth flange and a protrusion of an inner surface of the second vertical wall approximately adjacent to the fourth flange.
