Abstract
The invention relates to a nanofluid preparation method (100) from biogenic material, said method comprising the steps of: Treating (120) biogenic material with a strong acid to remove metal impurities; Heating (140) the treated biogenic material at a first temperature comprised between 150° C. and 500° C.; Heating (150) the treated biogenic material at a second temperature above 600° C. to pyrolyze the treated biogenic material; Grinding (160) the pyrolyzed biogenic material to obtain nanoparticles of biogenic material; and Mixing (180) nanoparticles of biogenic material with an organic solvent to form a nanofluid, said organic solvent comprising a low polarity solvent. The invention also relates to a nanofluid obtainable by the nanofluid preparation method and the use of such a nanofluid for example for reducing fines migration or enhanced crude oil recovery. The invention also relates to a system for enhanced crude oil recovery from a reservoir well.
Claims
1. A nanofluid preparation method from biogenic material, said method comprising the steps of: Treating biogenic material with an acid, preferably a strong acid, to remove metal impurities; Heating the treated biogenic material at a first temperature between 150° C. and 500° C.; Heating the treated biogenic material at a second temperature above 600° C. to pyrolyze the treated biogenic material; Grinding the pyrolyzed biogenic material to obtain nanoparticles of the biogenic material; and Mixing said nanoparticles of biogenic material with an organic solvent to form a nanofluid, said organic solvent comprising a low polarity solvent.
2. The nanofluid preparation method according to claim 1, wherein the biogenic materials are selected from the group consisting of: rice husks, bamboo leaves and corn husks.
3. The nanofluid preparation method according to claim 1, wherein the acid is selected from any acid having a negative pKa value.
4. The nanofluid preparation method according to claim 1, wherein the low polarity solvent is able to solubilize paraffin at a concentration greater than 5 g/100 ml.
5. The nanofluid preparation method according to claim 1, wherein the low polarity solvent is selected from the group consisting of: toluene, hexane, xylene, cyclohexane, cyclooctane, and mesitylene.
6. The nanofluid preparation method according to claim 1, wherein the organic solvent is a mixture of the low polarity solvent and fuel.
7. The nanofluid preparation method according to claim 1, further comprising a step of functionalizing the nanoparticles of biogenic material.
8. A nanofluid obtained by the nanofluid preparation method according to claim 1.
9. A method for reducing fines migration in a reservoir well, wherein the nanofluid according to claim 8 is pumped into the reservoir well.
10. The method for reducing fines migration according to claim 9, wherein the nanofluid is pumped into the reservoir well at a pressure greater than 20 atm.
11. A method for enhanced crude oil recovery from a reservoir well connected to a porous subterranean reservoir containing crude oil, the method comprising the steps of: Stopping production of the reservoir well; Pumping the nanofluid according to claim 8 into the porous subterranean reservoir; and Resuming the production of the reservoir well to recover enhanced crude oil comprising said nanoparticles of biogenic material.
12. A method for enhanced crude oil recovery according to claim 11, further comprising separating recovered crude oil from said nanoparticles of biogenic material.
13. A method for enhanced crude oil recovery according to claim 12, wherein the separation step of the recovered crude oil from nanoparticles is done at the outlet of the well head, for example with an axial flow cyclone.
14. Enhanced crude oil obtained by the method according to claim 11.
15. A system for enhanced crude oil recovery from a reservoir well connected to a porous subterranean reservoir comprising crude oil, the system comprising: controlling means configured to stop and resume production of the reservoir well; Pumping means configured to introduce the nanofluid according to claim 8 into the porous subterranean reservoir; and Recovering means, configured to recover enhanced crude oil comprising nanoparticles of biogenic material from the reservoir well.

Hence a nanofluid is a heterogeneous fluid. Preferably, nanofluid according to the invention is designed and prepared to resolve a specific condition of a well or subterranean formation.
[0061] As used herein, “nanoparticles” are particles between 1 and 150 nanometers (nm) in size, with all three external dimensions inferior to 150 nanometers, and preferably whose longest and shortest axes do not differ significantly, with a significant difference typically being a factor of at least 3.

Preparation, Synthesis of SiO.SUB.2 .Nanoparticles from Waste Plant Material

Properties like viscosity and density are determinant in the feasibility of mixture and the interfacial tension and contact angle are useful to predict the interaction of the nanofluid with the fines, water or any surface present in the media.

In the case of nanofluids the behavior depends strongly of the nanoparticles size, concentration and composition. [0200] One of the important issues in the interaction of crude oils and solids in reservoir is the presence of the crude oil sub-fraction called asphaltenes. The asphaltenes are the more polar fraction of molecules in crude oils and the interaction of these molecules itself and with surface cause severe problems to the industry.
[0201] Solubility tests have been done to ensure the compatibility of the nanofluids with asphaltenes. Asphaltenes 1000 ppm (for “part per million”) were both soluble in Toluene and in a mixture Diesel/Xylene (60/40) (B). In absence of a low polarity solvent such as toluene or xylene, asphaltenes shown a low precipitation. From the optimization a nanofluid was obtained in the mixture Diesel/Xylene (60/40) lower Xylene rations induce asphaltene precipitation causing severe inconvenience for the process.

The nanoparticles of the nanofluid adsorb asphaltenes, adhere easily to fines and sand, and produce unconsolidated solid phase. Those properties are involved in the formation of a macro porous structure between nanoparticles/fines/asphaltenes.
