Abstract
A tile aligning and lippage tuning system that uses a single piece base and strap which is designed to break away from the base when sufficient pressure is applied and is also designed to stretch along a thin wall region before separation of the strap from the base occurs.
Claims
1. A tile aligning and leveling system comprising: a cap 410, configured to remain on a first side of a tile; a connecting tab 110 with a bottom portion 130 and a longitudinal axis LA which is configured to mate with said cap; a base configured to be placed on an opposite side of said first side, said base having a plate 122 and a plurality of triangular cross section ridges 124 thereon; said connecting tab having a thin wall region 112 to permit stretching of the connecting tab across the thin wall region and in a direction parallel to said LA; said bottom portion having a thickness greater than said thin wall region and having a plurality of voids 132 disposed therein to permit detachment of said connecting tab from said plate; and wherein said voids are located in an area of said bottom portion between an apex of one of said plurality of triangular cross section ridges and said plate.
2. The system of claim 1 wherein said connecting tab has a top end and wherein said thin wall region is proximal to said plate.
3. The system of claim 1 wherein said thin wall region is oval in shape.
4. The system of claim 2 wherein said thin wall region is oval in shape.
5. The system of claim 4 wherein thin wall region has a stretchable longitudinal axis which is parallel to said LA.
6. The system of claim 1 wherein thin wall region has a stretchable longitudinal axis which is parallel to said LA.
7. The system of claim 6 wherein said thin wall region is oval in shape and proximal to said plate.
8. A method for reducing lippage in a plurality of tiles comprising the steps of: providing a substrate upon which a plurality of tiles are to be laid; providing a bonding material on said substrate configured to bond said substrate to said plurality of tile; providing a base in said bonding material; providing a first tile disposed on said base; providing an elongated strap extending from said base; where the elongated strap has a height above the base as a longest dimension along a strap longitudinal axis; a width of the strap, which runs in a line parallel to a longitudinal axis of a grout joint containing said strap has a shorter dimension but a dimension that is longer than a thickness dimension of the strap in a line which is orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the grout joint; providing a cap; causing said cap to engage and surround a portion of said elongated strap; and providing a pressure onto a surface of one of said plurality of tiles by compressing said cap, and thereby causing a thin wall region of said elongated strap to stretch along said strap longitudinal axis.
9. A tile aligning and leveling system comprising: a cap, configured to remain on a first side of a tile; a connecting tab with a bottom portion and a longitudinal axis which connecting tab is configured to mate with said cap; a base configured to be placed on an opposite side of said first side, said base having a plate and a plurality of ridges thereon; said connecting tab having a thin wall region to permit stretching of the connecting tab across the thin wall region and in a direction parallel to said longitudinal axis; said bottom portion having a thickness greater than said thin wall region and having a plurality of voids disposed therein to permit detachment of said connecting tab from said plate; and wherein said voids are located in an area of said bottom portion between an apex of one of said plurality of ridges and said plate.
10. The system of claim 9 wherein said connecting tab has a top end and wherein said thin wall region is proximal to said plate.
11. The system of claim 10 wherein said thin wall region is oval in shape.
12. The system of claim 9 wherein said thin wall region is oval in shape.
13. The system of claim 11 wherein thin wall region has a stretchable longitudinal axis which is parallel to said longitudinal axis.
14. The system of claim 9 wherein thin wall region has a stretchable longitudinal axis which is parallel to said longitudinal axis.
15. The system of claim 14 wherein said thin wall region is oval in shape and proximal to said plate.
