HOCKEY STICK BLADE COVERING

Abstract

A covering for a hockey stick blade wherein the covering includes a body that is mateably shaped with the blade of a hockey stick and is configured to be adhered thereto. The body further includes at least one aperture formed therein wherein the aperture is formed completely through the body so as to expose the bare surface of the hockey stick blade. The aperture is further provided in various alternate designs, shapes and sizes. The body of the present invention includes a first side and a second side wherein the first side includes an adhesive disposed thereon and is configured to be applied to a surface of the hockey stick blade. The second side of the body is distal to the hockey stick blade and has a wax impregnated thereinto wherein the wax provides an increased coefficient of friction engagement with a hockey puck for more control thereof.

Claims

1. A hockey stick blade covering that is configured to be applied to opposing sides of a hockey stick blade wherein the hockey stick blade covering comprises: a body, said body being planar in manner, said body having a first side and a second side, said first side having an adhesive disposed thereon, said body having a lower edge, an outer edge, an inside edge and an upper edge defining a shape for said body that is mateably shaped to a hockey stick blade, said second side being distal to a surface of the hockey stick blade ensuing adherence of the hockey stick blade covering; at least one aperture, said at least one aperture being formed completely through said body, said at least one aperture providing exposure of the surface of the hockey stick in a defined location.

2. The hockey stick blade covering that is configured to be applied to opposing sides of a hockey stick blade as recited in claim 1, wherein the at least one aperture is provided in alternate shapes and styles.

3. The hockey stick blade covering that is configured to be applied to opposing sides of a hockey stick blade as recited in claim 2, wherein the body is manufactured from a plastic film.

4. The hockey stick blade covering that is configured to be applied to opposing sides of a hockey stick blade as recited in claim 3, wherein the adhesive on the first side of the body is a pressure sensitive adhesive.

5. The hockey stick blade covering that is configured to be applied to opposing sides of a hockey stick blade as recited in claim 4, wherein said second side of said body has a wax impregnated thereinto.

[0022] Referring in particular to the Figures submitted herewith, the hockey stick blade covering 100 includes a body 10. The body 10 includes a first side 15 and a second side 20. The body 10 is formed in a shape that is configured to be mateably shaped with an exemplary hockey stick blade 99. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, the body 10 is formed in a shape and size that will provide substantial coverage of one side of the hockey stick blade 99. It is contemplated within the scope of the present invention that the body 10 could be provided in a size and shape that would cover less than the complete surface of the hockey stick blade 99.

[0023] The body 10 of the present invention has an adhesive disposed on the first side 15. It should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the adhesive could be but not limited to a pressure sensitive adhesive. The first side 15 is placed adjacent to the hockey stick blade 99 and facilitates the securing of the hockey stick blade covering 100 to one side of the hockey stick blade 99. The second side 20 of the body 10 is plastic film and is configured to provide an increased coefficient of friction with a hockey puck in comparison to a bare hockey stick blade 99 that is manufactured from fiberglass or wood. The body 10 of the present invention includes a lower edge 6, an outer edge 7, an inside edge 8 and upper edge 9 that are operable to form the same profile shape as a conventional hockey blade 99. Disposed on the second side 20 of the body 10 is a wax coating 30. The wax coating 30 is impregnated into the second side 20 and is configured to further provide an increased coefficient of friction with a hockey puck. It is contemplated within the scope of the present invention that the wax could be impregnated into the second side 20 of the body 10 utilizing numerous alternate suitable techniques. It should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the body 10 could be provided without wax.

[0024] Referring in particular to FIG. 4 submitted herewith, the aperture 40 is illustrated herein. The aperture 40 is formed completely through the body 10 in order to expose the surface 98 of the hockey stick blade 99. The aperture 40 provides two functions. First, exposure of the surface 98 of the hockey stick blade 99 in certain locations along the hockey stick blade 99 may be preferred by some players for desired control of the hockey puck. Additionally, the aperture 40 can be created in custom shapes so as to create a desired appearance for the hockey stick blade 99. While one aperture 40 is illustrated herein in FIG. 4 that is formed in the shape of a dollar sign, it should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the aperture 40 could be formed in alternate shapes and further that a body 10 could be provided with more than one aperture 40 present in various locations on the hockey stick blade 99. It should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the body 10 is provided in numerous alternate colors.
