Abstract
Bullet loading tips for muzzleloading firearms. The bullet loading tips include a stem, a platform, and a cushion. The platform is coupled to the stem. The cushion is coupled to the platform. The stem, the platform, and the cushion are complementarily configured with a barrel of the muzzleloading firearm to insert into the barrel with the cushion abutting a bullet disposed in the barrel. The bullet loading tip is configured to press the bullet down the barrel to a seated position at the end of the barrel when the bullet loading tip is urged down the barrel. The bullet loading tip is configured to apply pressure to the bullet in the seated position without deforming the bullet.
Claims
1. A bullet loading tip for a muzzleloading firearm, comprising: a stem; a platform coupled to the stem; and a cushion coupled to the platform; wherein: the stem, the platform, and the cushion are complementarily configured with a barrel of the muzzleloading firearm to insert into the barrel with the cushion abutting a bullet disposed in the barrel; the bullet loading tip is configured to press the bullet down the barrel to a seated position at the end of the barrel when the bullet loading tip is urged down the barrel; and the bullet loading tip is configured to apply pressure to the bullet in the seated position without deforming the bullet.
2. The bullet loading tip of claim 1, wherein the cushion is configured redistribute a portion of the compressive force exerted by the bullet loading tip on the bullet to avoid deforming the bullet.
3. The bullet loading tip of claim 2, wherein the cushion is formed from a material softer than the bullet.
4. The bullet loading tip of claim 3, wherein the cushion is comprised of neoprene.
5. The bullet loading tip of claim 2, wherein: the cushion includes a leading face disposed proximate the bullet when the bullet loading tip is inserted into the barrel; and the leading face defines a concave depression configured to receive a nose of the bullet.
6. The bullet loading tip of claim 5, wherein the concave depression is effective to redistribute compressive force from the bullet loading tip on the bullet over lateral surfaces of the nose.
7. The bullet loading tip of claim 1, wherein the platform defines a cup with a floor and sidewalls projecting from a periphery of the floor.
8. The bullet loading tip of claim 7, wherein the floor is circular.
9. The bullet loading tip of claim 8, wherein the outer diameter of the floor is less than the inner diameter of the barrel.
10. The bullet loading tip of claim 7, wherein the cushion is received by the cup between the sidewalls in a position abutting the floor.
11. The bullet loading tip of claim 10, wherein the cushion is retained in the cup by frictional engagement with the sidewalls.
12. The bullet loading tip of claim 11, wherein the stem is configured to selectively couple with one or more of a ball starter and a ramrod.
13. The bullet loading tip of claim 12, wherein the stem is threaded.
14. The bullet loading tip of claim 13, wherein the stem defines male threads complementarily configured with female threads defined in one or more of the ball starter and the ramrod.
15. A bullet loading tip for a muzzleloading firearm, comprising: a stem configured to selectively couple with one or more of a ball starter and a ramrod; a platform coupled to the stem and complementarily configured with a barrel of the muzzleloading firearm; and a cushion coupled to the platform and complementarily configured with the barrel, the cushion being configured to not deform a bullet when urged against the bullet in the barrel by the ball starter or the ramrod.

The bullet loading tip of claim 15, wherein: the cushion includes a leading face disposed proximate the bullet when the bullet loading tip is inserted into the barrel; the leading face defines a concave depression configured to receive a nose of the bullet to redistribute compressive force on the bullet from the cushion being urged against the bullet over lateral surfaces of the nose.
17. The bullet loading tip of claim 15, wherein the cushion is comprised of neoprene.
18. The bullet loading tip of claim 15, wherein the stem defines male threads complementarily configured with female threads defined in one or more of the ball starter and the ramrod.
19. The bullet loading tip of claim 15, wherein the platform defines a cup with a floor and sidewalls projecting from a periphery of the floor.
20. The bullet loading tip of claim 19, wherein the cushion is retained in the cup by frictional engagement with the sidewalls.

[0024] With reference to the figures, bullet loading tips for muzzleloading firearms will now be described. The bullet loading tips discussed herein function to urge and seat bullets down barrels of muzzleloading firearms without deforming the bullets.
[0025] The reader will appreciate from the figures and description below that the presently disclosed bullet loading tips address many of the shortcomings of conventional bullet loading tips. For example, the novel bullet loading tips enable conventional ball starters and ramrods to be adapted to avoid damaging a bullet when pushing the bullet in a barrel. The novel bullet loading tips do not present hard contact interfaces with the bullet to facilitate pressing on the bullet without damaging the bullet.
