MODULAR BAG SYSTEM

Abstract

A modular bag system has a primary bag and a secondary bag that can be used in conjunction with or separately from the primary bag. When used in conjunction with the primary bag, the secondary bag provides an organizer having various pockets in various configurations for holding articles that is removably positioned in an internal compartment of the primary bag. When used separately, the secondary bag provides a smaller bag for carrying items as desired.

Claims

1. A modular bag system comprising: a primary bag having a primary bag body having a storage compartments; a secondary bag having a secondary bag body having a first and second half body portions that are hingedly connected and movable between a closed and an open position, wherein in the closed position the first and second half body portions are detachable connected about their perimeters and define a secondary bag storage compartment, and wherein each of the first and second half body portions have plurality of interior pockets disposed on an interior side thereof; and wherein the second storage compartment is configured to removably receive and retain the secondary bag with the secondary bag in the open position with the first and second half body portions spanning the interior of the second storage compartment and with the pockets disposed thereon being accessible when the back flap is in the open position.

2. A diaper bag system comprising: a primary bag having a primary bag body having a back surface, a front surface opposite the back surface, first and second storage compartments disposed between the back and front surfaces, a front flap pivotably movable between a closed and an open position to allow access to the first storage compartment when the front flap is in the open position, and a back flap pivotably moveable between a closed and an open position to allow access to the second storage compartment when the back flap is in the open position; wherein the back flap is padded and when in the open position the back flap is configured to lay flat on a surface to permit laying a baby on the back flap; a foldable changing pad having at least two interconnected panels that are pivotally connected and movable between an open configuration and a folded configuration, the changing pad being removably attachable to the back flap; a secondary bag having a secondary bag body having a first and second half body portions that are hingedly connected and movable between a closed and an open position, wherein in the closed position the first and second half body portions are detachable connected about their perimeters and define a secondary bag storage compartment, and wherein each of the first and second half body portions have plurality of interior pockets disposed on an interior side thereof; and wherein the second storage compartment is configured to removably receive and retain the secondary bag with the secondary bag in the open position with the first and second half body portions spanning the interior of the second storage compartment and with the pockets disposed thereon being accessible when the back flap is in the open position.

3. The diaper bag system of claim 2, wherein the back flap is designed and dimensioned to constitute the entire back surface of the primary bag body.

4. The diaper bag system of claim 2, wherein at least one of the interior pockets is diaper-holding pocket.

5. The diaper bag system of claim 2, wherein each of the first and second half body portions have plurality of exterior pockets disposed on an exterior side thereof.

6. The diaper bag system of claim 2, wherein at least one of the exterior pockets is a bottle-holding pocket.

7. The diaper bag system of claim 2, wherein the secondary bag further includes a shoulder strap attached to the secondary bag body.

8. The diaper bag system of claim 2, wherein the primary bag further includes a pair of shoulder straps attached to the primary bag body and configured to allow a user to carry the primary bag as a backpack.

9. The diaper bag system of claim 2, wherein the changing pad is configured to be removably held within the secondary bag storage compartment when the changing pad is in the folded configuration.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0025] The present invention will now be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which a preferred embodiment of the invention is shown. In FIGS. 1-8, an exemplary modular bag system in the form of a diaper bag system 10 in accordance with embodiments of the present invention is shown. The system 10 includes a primary bag 12 and a secondary bag 14 that is configured to be used with the primary bag or separately from the primary bag, as explained further herein.

[0026] As shown, the primary bag 12 is configured as a backpack to be worn on the back of a user just as a conventional backpack would. However, the primary bag 12 could have different configurations and should not be limited solely to a backpack configuration. The primary bag 12 has a bag body 13 to which is attached a pair of shoulder straps 15a and 15b. The bag body 13 has a back surface 16 and a front surface 18 that is opposite of the back surface. The bag body 13 is configured with two interior compartments 20 and 22 that are located between the front and back surfaces and separated by an internal wall 24.

[0027] A plurality of pockets for storage of items may be provide on the exterior of the bag body 13. A plurality of pockets for storage of items may be also provided within interior compartments 20 and 22. These pockets may be arranged in any number, size, and configuration as desired.

[0028] A front flap 26 is pivotably movable between a closed position and an open position to allow access to storage compartment 20 when the front flap is in the open position. The front flap 26 is secured in the closed position by zipper 28. A back flap 30 is pivotably moveable between a closed and an open position to allow access to storage compartment 22 when the back flap is in the open position. The back flap 30 is secured in the closed position by zipper 32.

[0029] The back flap 30 is padded and configured to lay substantially flat on a surface with the interior surface thereof facing upward when in the open position to allow laying a child on the back flap for tending to the child, such as in changing a diaper. A diaper changing pad 34 can be provided and can be removably secured to the back flap 30, such at the interior surface thereof, by any number of fasteners, such as, for example, a hook and loop fasteners (not shown).

[0030] As best seen in FIG. 4, the diaper changing pad 34 is foldable and has a plurality of panels 36 that are hingedly connected to allow the panels to fold upon one another to foldup the changing pad.

[0031] The secondary bag 14 has a secondary bag body 38 that comprises of two half body portions 40 and 42 that are hingedly connected along a corresponding edge and movable between an open position and a closed position, in a clamshell-like configuration. In the closed position, the half body portions are detachable connected about their perimeters by a zipper 43, for example, and define an internal secondary bag storage compartment. A shoulder strap 45 is also provided and attached to the bag body 38.

[0032] Body portion 40 includes an interior side 44 and an exterior side 46. Similarly, body portion 42 includes an interior side 48 and an exterior side 50. The interior side 44 of body portion 40 includes a plurality of interior pockets, generally at 52, for storage of items. Likewise, the interior side 48 of body portion 42 includes a plurality of interior pockets, generally at 54, for storage of items. These interior pockets can be arranged in any number, size, and configuration as desired. Similarly, both the exterior sides 46 and 50 may have one or more exterior pockets for storage of items. These exterior pockets can be arranged in any number, size, and configuration as desired. In a preferred embodiment, a least one interior pocket is configured to fresh diapers, and at least one exterior pocket is configured to hold a feeding bottle.

[0033] The secondary bag 14 and interior compartment 22 are configured such that the secondary bag is removably received by the interior compartment and removably secured therein with the secondary bag in the open position with the interior pockets 52 and 54 facing outwardly. In this configuration, the secondary bag 14 provides an organizer for the interior compartment 22 for the storage of various items as needed.

[0034] The secondary bag 14 can then be removed from the interior compartment 22 and used as a standalone bag separately from the primary bag 12. The folding diaper changing pad 34 is sized and configured to be carried by the secondary bag 14 when used as a bag separately from the primary bag.

[0035] The secondary bag 14 can be detachably secured in the interior compartment, in the open position, by any number of means, such as, for example cooperative fasteners located on the secondary bag body 38 and on the interior walls of the interior compartment. It is contemplated that other methods could be used to removably secure the secondary bag, in the open position, in compartment 22.
