Abstract
A sliding bearing element with a first layer having a radially inner surface includes a measuring device arranged on the radially inner surface of the first layer. The measuring device includes, in the order indicated, a first electrical insulating layer, a sensor layer and a second electrical insulating layer. A sliding layer is arranged on the second electrical insulating layer.
Claims
1. A sliding bearing element comprising: a first layer having a radially inner surface, a measuring device arranged on the radially inner surface of the first layer, the measuring device including, in the order indicated, a first electrical insulating layer arranged over the entire radially inner surface of the first layer and defining a radially inner surface, a sensor layer arranged over the entire radially inner surface of the first electrical insulating layer and defining a radially inner surface, the sensor layer having a thickness between 0.1 μm and 4 μm and structured to form conductive paths, and a second electrical insulating layer arranged over the entire radially inner surface of the sensor layer and defining a radially inner surface, and a sliding layer arranged over the entire radially inner surface of the second electrical insulating layer, wherein: the first electrical insulating layer is a PVD layer deposited directly onto the first layer, the sensor layer is a PVD layer, the second electrical insulating layer is a PVD layer, and the sliding layer is a PVD layer or an anti-friction varnish layer.
2. The sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein the sliding layer is a sputtering layer.
3. The sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein a running-in layer is arranged on the sliding layer.
4. The sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the first and the second insulating layers is formed by Al.sub.2O.sub.3 and/or SiO.sub.2.
5. The sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein at least one of the first and the second insulating layers has a layer thickness between 2 μm and 8 μm.
6. The sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein the sensor layer is formed by chromium or a chromium-nickel alloy.
7. The sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein electrical contacts are arranged on a radially outermost layer and are electrically conductively connected to the sensor layer.
8. The sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein the sensor layer is connected to a data transmission device, the data transmission device being designed for wireless data transmission.
9. The sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein the sensor layer is connected to an energy generating device.
10. The sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein the sensor layer has a conductor loop for temperature compensation during measurement.
11. A sliding bearing element according to claim 1, wherein, on a radial end face, a recess is formed in which a telemetry device is arranged.
12. A sliding bearing comprising a bearing receptacle having a radially inner surface, and at least one sliding bearing element formed according to claim 1, the at least one sliding bearing element is arranged to abut the radially inner surface of the bearing receptacle.
13. The sliding bearing according to claim 12, wherein the at least one sliding bearing element according to claim 1 is arranged so that its sensor layer is positioned at least in the most heavily loaded zone of the sliding bearing.
14. The sliding bearing according to claim 12, wherein electrical contacts are arranged on the radially inner surface of the bearing receptacle.
15. The sliding bearing according to claim 12, wherein a telemetry device is arranged on or at least partially in the bearing receptacle.
16. A method of manufacturing a sliding bearing element, according to which a measuring device is formed on a radially inner surface of a first layer, the method comprising: depositing a first electrical layer directly onto the entire radially inner surface of the first layer using a PVD method so as to define a radially inner surface, depositing a sensor layer over the entire radially inner surface of the first electrical insulating layer using a PVD method so as to define a radially inner surface, the sensor layer having a thickness between 0.1 μm and 4 μm and being structured to form conductive paths, depositing a second electrical insulating layer over the entire radially inner surface of the sensor layer using a PVD method so as to define a radially inner surface, and arranging a sliding layer over the entire radially inner surface of the second electrical insulating layer over the entire radially inner surface, wherein: the sliding layer is deposited using a PVD method or is formed as an anti-friction varnish layer.
17. The method according to claim 16, further comprising: structuring the sensor layer to form the conductive paths after the sensor layer is deposited over the first electrical insulating layer.
18. The method according to claim 17, wherein the structuring of the sensor layer is carried out with a laser and/or using at least one mask.
19. The method according to claim 16, wherein at least one of the first electrical insulating layer, the sensor layer, and the second electrical insulating layer is produced by means of reactive sputtering.

(14) Shown is a five-layer variant consisting of a first layer 2, which in this embodiment forms the support layer of the sliding bearing element 1, a measuring device 3 arranged directly on the first layer 2, i.e. on a radially inner surface of the layer 2, and a sliding layer 4 arranged directly on the measuring device 3. The measuring device 3 comprises at least three layers, namely a first electrical insulating layer 5 directly abutting the first layer 2 of the sliding bearing element 1, a sensor layer 6 directly abutting the first electrical insulating layer 5, and a second electrical insulating layer 7 directly abutting the sensor layer 6.
(15) Although the three-layer design of the measuring device 3 is the preferred one, it may also have more than three layers. For example, at least one of the two electrical insulating layers 5, 7 may consist of several partial layers arranged one above the other, which may also be composed differently. Further, the sensor layer 6 may also consist of several partial layers arranged one above the other, which may also be composed differently.
(16) However, the sliding bearing element 1 may also have other layers. For example, the sliding bearing element 1 may also have a bearing metal layer 8, which is arranged between the measuring device 3 and the support layer of the sliding bearing element. In this case, the bearing metal layer 8 forms the first layer 2 mentioned above, so that the explanations regarding the first layer 2 in this description for this embodiment of the sliding bearing element 1 are to be applied to the bearing metal layer 8.
(17) In addition, the sliding bearing element 1 may have other layers, such as a bonding agent layer and/or a diffusion barrier layer between the bearing metal layer 8 and the support layer, or a running-in layer on the sliding layer 4. Likewise, an antifretting layer may be arranged on the back of the support layer.
(18) Although the sliding bearing element 1 is shown as a half shell, it may also be designed differently, for example as a bearing bush. In general, sliding bearing elements 1 are possible which cover an angular range deviating from 180°.
(19) The support layer is made of a material which gives the sliding bearing element 1 the required structural strength, for example a brass or bronze. In the preferred embodiment of the sliding bearing element 1, however, it consists of steel. Insofar as the sliding bearing element 1 is designed as a direct coating, for example of the radially inner surface of a bearing receptacle or of the outer surface of a shaft, the support layer is formed by the material of the direct-coated component. Moreover, in this case, the support layer is not a conventional layer in the strict sense of the word. However, in the context of the present disclosure, the term “support layer” also includes such embodiments.
(20) A wide variety of alloys may be used as a bearing metal layer 8. Examples include aluminum-based bearing metals, e.g. AlSn6CuNi, AlSn20Cu, AlSi4Cd, AlCd3CuNi, AlSi11Cu, AlSn6Cu, AlSn40, AlSn25CuMn, AlSi11CuMgNi, AlZn4Si. For example, the bearing metal layer 8 may be formed by CuPb4Sn4Zn4, CuPb5Sn5Zn5, CuPb7Sn7Zn4, CuPb9Sn5, CuPb10Sn10, CuPb15Sn7, CuPb22Sn2, CuPb20Sn4, CuPb22Sn8, CuPb24Sn2, CuPb24Sn, CuPb24Sn4, CuSn5Zn, CuAl10Ni, CuSn10. A tolerance range of up to 5 percentage points applies to the composition data for all the alloy variants listed.
(21) The bearing metal layer 8 may be deposited or arranged on the support layer using a conventional method known from sliding bearing technology. For example, a bimetal may be manufactured from the support layer and the bearing metal layer 8 by rolling on the bearing metal layer 88. Likewise, the bearing metal layer 8 may be cast onto the support layer. If necessary, this bimetal is formed and/or machined.
(22) The sliding layer 4 may consist of conventional materials known for this purpose in sliding bearing technology. For example, the sliding layer 4 may consist of an electrodeposited material.
(23) In the preferred embodiment, however, the sliding layer 4 is a layer deposited by means of a PVD method. Particularly preferably, the sliding layer is a sputtering layer, in particular produced by a cathode sputtering method. For this purpose, the deposition of the sliding layer 4 may take place in a method gas, for example consisting of or comprising argon.
(24) The sliding layer 4 may be made of or include a tin-based alloy or an alloy with aluminum as the base element, such as AlSn20Cu1, Al—Bi15Cu1Ni1, or by an alloy with copper as the base element, such as CuPb27, CuPb25Sn3, CuPb25Ni3, or by silver or an alloy with silver as the base element, such as AgCu5.
(25) The following parameters may be applied for deposition by a sputtering method:
(26) Voltage at the sliding bearing element blank on which the sliding layer 4 is deposited: −150 V to 0 V

(32) It is well known that during sputtering, method gas atoms are accelerated onto a target and knock out the metal atoms to be deposited, which are subsequently accelerated in the direction of the sliding bearing element blank and deposit on its surface, so that the sliding layer 4 is built up. Since this method is known in principle, please refer to the relevant prior art for further details.
(33) Deposition by a PVD (physical vapor deposition) method is preferred because these take place apart from thermodynamic equilibrium, so particle diffusion and coagulation of precipitates may be prevented.
(34) However, the sliding layer 4 may also have been produced by an electron beam evaporation methods.
(35) According to another embodiment of the sliding bearing element 1, it may be provided that the sliding layer 4 is an anti-friction varnish layer, i.e. a polymer layer made of an anti-friction varnish, for example by spraying or brushing or dipping on the anti-friction varnish and then drying the anti-friction varnish to form the polymer layer.
(36) In principle, any suitable anti-friction varnish with sufficient abrasion resistance and sliding properties may be used as an anti-friction varnish. For example, a PTFE-based anti-friction varnish may be used.
(37) Preferably, however, a polyamide-based anti-friction varnish is used, in particular one based on a polyamide-imide, which contains at least one solid lubricant, such as MoS.sub.2, graphite, hexagonal BN, etc. It is further preferred if the anti-friction varnish contains both MoS.sub.2 and graphite as solid lubricants.
(38) The polymer layer formed from the anti-friction varnish after its application to the measuring device 3 may have a composition of 20 wt. % to 45 wt. % of polyamide-imide, 30 wt. % to 55 wt. % of MoS2, and 10 wt. % to 25 wt. % of graphite, with the proviso that the sum of all the constituents of the polymer layer adds up to 100 wt. %.
(39) To increase the mechanical strength, the polymer layer may contain further additives in a total proportion of at most 10 wt. %, such as fibers, hard materials, e.g. carbides, oxides, nitrides, for example CrO.sub.2, Fe.sub.3O.sub.4, ZnO, Al.sub.2O.sub.3, SiO.sub.2, SiC, Si.sub.3N.sub.4, etc.
(40) The polymer layer may have a layer thickness selected from a range of 1 μm to 40 μm, in particular from 3 μm to 30 μm.
(41) The polymer layer advantageously has a Vickers hardness selected from a range of 20 HV (0.01) to 45 HV (0.01).
(42) As already explained above, a running-in layer may also be arranged on the sliding layer 4, i.e. on its radially inner surface. In this embodiment variant, the sliding layer 4 is preferably a PVD layer, in particular a sputtering layer, and the running-in layer is a polymer layer made from an anti-friction varnish. With regard to the materials for this purpose, reference is made to the preceding explanations.
(43) According to a preferred embodiment, the first and/or the second electrical insulating layer 5, 7 comprise Al.sub.2O.sub.3 and/or SiO.sub.2 or consist thereof. In the preferred embodiment, both the first electrical insulating layer 5 and the second insulating layer 7 comprise Al.sub.2O.sub.3 and/or SiO.sub.2 or consist thereof.
(44) However, the first and/or the second insulating layer 5, 7 may also be made of other electrically insulating materials, such as ZrO.sub.2.
(45) Preferably, the first and/or the second insulating layer 5, 7 (particularly preferably both insulating layers 5, 7) have a layer thickness 9 selected from a range of 2 μm to 8 μm, in particular from a range of 3 μm to 5 μm, for the reasons stated above.
(46) According to a further preferred embodiment, the sensor layer 6 comprises chromium or a chromium-nickel alloy or consists thereof. The chromium-nickel alloy may in particular have a chromium content of between 15 wt. % and 25 wt. %. The remainder to 100 wt. % is the nickel. For example, the chromium-nickel alloy may have 20 wt. % chromium and 80 wt. % nickel.
(47) However, the sensor layer 6 may also be made of or include other electrically conductive materials, such as Ag, Pt, Cu-based materials such as CuNiMn.
(48) Preferably, for the above reasons, the sensor layer 6 has a layer thickness 10 selected from a range of 0.1 μm to 4 μm, in particular from a range of 0.2 μm to 2 μm.
(49) With the measuring device 3, in particular with the sensor layer 6, it is possible to detect at least one operating parameter during operation of the sliding bearing element 1, such as in particular the temperature and/or the pressure in the lubricant gap of a sliding bearing equipped with the sliding bearing element 1. For this purpose, the change in electrical conductivity may be detected.
(50) For the acquisition of the measured value, the sensor layer 6 may be structured accordingly, as shown by way of example in

(52) For the production of the conductive paths 11, in the preferred embodiment of the method, after deposition on the radially inner surface of the first layer 2, the first electrical insulating layer 5 is deposited first. This is preferably deposited on the entire radially inner surface of the first layer 2, but may also be deposited only at the location or locations at which the sensor layer 6 is arranged in the finished sliding bearing element 1.
(53) The sensor layer 6 is then deposited on this first electrical insulating layer 5. Again, this is preferably deposited over the entire radially inner surface of the first electrical insulating layer 5. However, it may also be deposited (also preferably over the entire surface) only at the location or locations at which the sensor layer 6 is arranged in the finished sliding bearing element 1.
(54) After the sensor layer 6 has been deposited, it will be structured to form the conductive paths 11. In the method, the areas of the sensor layer 6 in which no conductive paths 11 are arranged are removed again. The sensor layer 6, which was originally preferably full-surface, thus becomes a sensor layer 6 arranged only in discrete areas of the first electrical insulating layer 5.
(55) It should be noted that it is sufficient to remove only the areas of the sensor layer 6 in the region adjacent to the conductive paths 11. Areas of the sensor layer 6 in which no conductive paths are arranged, i.e. for example in the embodiment example of
(56) The second electrical insulating layer 7 is then deposited on the structured sensor layer 6 on its radially inner surface and the sliding layer 4 on its radially inner surface. This results in a sliding bearing element 1 with at least one integrated thin-film sensor.
(57) The deposition of the first electrical insulating layer 5 and/or the second electrical insulating layer 7 and/or the sensor layer 6 is preferably carried out by means of a PVD method (physical vapor deposition), in particular with a sputtering method, preferably by means of magnetron sputtering technology. Further, in the preferred embodiment of the method, a planar magnetron is used, i.e. a magnetron with a planar target.
(58) Particularly preferably, both the first and second electrical insulating layer 5, 7 and the sensor layer 6 are produced using this method.

(75) It may be provided that the transition between the individual layers is abrupt or that they gradually merge into one another. For example, the transition from the second insulating layer 7 to the sliding layer 4 may be formed starting from Al.sub.2O.sub.3 via Al.sub.xO.sub.y (x:y>2:3) via Al via AlSnx (x<20) to AlSn20Cu. Alternatively or additionally, starting from the first insulating layer 5 to the sensor layer 6, the layer sequence may be as follows: Al.sub.2O.sub.3.fwdarw.Al.sub.xO.sub.y (x:y>2:3).fwdarw.Al.fwdarw. sensor layer material. The layer thickness of the transition from the second insulating layer 7 to the sliding layer 4 may be between 0.05 μm and 1.5 μm. The layer thickness of the transition from the first insulating layer 5 to the sensor layer 6 may be between 0.001 μm and 0.1 μm.
(76) According to a further embodiment of the method, it is possible for at least one of the first and second electrical insulating layers 5, 7 and the sensor layer 6 (preferably the first and second insulating layers 5, 7) to be produced by means of reactive sputtering. In this method, the at least one layer is produced from atoms from the target and from atoms from the gas atmosphere in the deposition chamber in which the coating is carried out. A reactive gas is used for this purpose. Alternatively, however, this reactive gas may also be generated from an appropriately composed target that may release oxygen, for example. The reactive gas or its ionized components react chemically with the target material or the atoms generated from it. The resulting compounds are then deposited on the sliding bearing element blank used. In this way, for example, Al.sub.2O.sub.3 may be produced during reactive sputtering of aluminum in an oxygen plasma. If the reaction takes place at the target, the reaction product is sputtered.
(77) For reactive sputtering of the layers, the parameters mentioned above may be applied.
(78) In addition to the deposition methods mentioned, however, other suitable deposition methods may also be used, at least for individual ones of the layers, for example wet chemical deposition methods (e.g. galvanic methods), or deposition by means of electron beam vapor deposition methods. In addition, there is the possibility of mask vapor deposition or mask sputtering.
(79) According to one embodiment of the method, the structuring of the sensor layer 6 is carried out by means of energy radiation, preferably with a laser and/or using at least one mask. In particular, the laser used for this purpose is an ultrashort pulse laser, preferably a so-called femtosecond laser. The advantage here is the exact and residue-free ablation of very small amounts of material without significant influence on the substrate by heat transfer.
(80) The following parameters may be applied for structuring the sensor layer 6 using a laser:

(82) Pulse energy: 1 μJ to 100 μJ
(83) Pulse repetition frequencies 1 kHz- to 800 MHz
(84) Wavelength in the 1 μm range, as commercially available.
(85) Focusing approx. 10 μm to 100 μm (=processing resolution)
(86) Preferably focused radiation, but imaging is also conceivable or working with beam shaping components
(87) If necessary, additional masks (e.g. made of metal) may be used with the laser to shade surface areas that cannot be removed from the influence of the laser.
(88) However, the structuring of the sensor layer 6 may also be carried out by other methods, again using masks if necessary, for example by means of wet chemical etching methods or by dry etching methods, such as bombardment of the surface to be structured with argon ions or with plasma-activated gases.
(89) According to one embodiment of the sliding bearing element 1, the measuring device 3 is arranged in the most heavily loaded zone of the sliding layer 4, i.e. in the radial direction above this zone. The most heavily loaded zone of the sliding layer 4 is the upper sliding bearing element 1 in the case of a connecting rod bearing and the lower sliding bearing element 1 in the case of a so-called main bearing.
(90) For contacting the sensor layer 6 with further electrical or electronic components, it may be provided that the conductive paths 11 lead into the region of axial end faces 13 of the sliding bearing element 1 (i.e. the end faces 13, as viewed in the axial direction) and contact points are formed on these axial end faces 13, which may be electrically conductively connected to mating contact points.
(91) According to another embodiment variant of the sliding bearing element 1, it may also be provided that electrical contacts 15, which are electrically conductively connected to the sensor layer 6, as shown in
