Abstract
A card shoe apparatus including a card housing unit for housing a plurality of cards; an opening in the card housing unit for manually withdrawing the cards one by one from the card housing unit in a card reading direction; a card reading unit that reads information on the cards as the cards are manually withdrawn from the card housing unit in the card reading direction; a control unit that stores rules of a card game and determines the results of the card game based on the information read by the card reading unit and the rules of the card game; an optical device that detects movements of the cards relative to the card reading direction; and a card entry/exit restriction unit provided in the opening. The card entry/exit restriction unit restricts the entry or exit of any of the cards when the cards are improperly withdrawn from the opening.
Claims
1. A method of using a card shoe apparatus that includes a card housing that houses a plurality of cards, the method comprising: reading, by a card reader, information on the cards as the cards are manually withdrawn one by one from the card housing in a card reading direction via an opening in the card housing; determining, by a controller, results of a game based on (a) the information read by the card reader and (b) rules of the game that are stored in a memory device; detecting, by an optical device, respective movements of each of one or more of the cards; and outputting an error signal in response to: the detection being that a direction of at least one of the respective movements is opposite to the card reading direction; or a result of the detection being that at least one of the cards is improperly withdrawn via the opening.
2. The method according to claim 1, further comprising restricting an entry or exit of one or more of the cards in response to the detection being that the direction of the at least one of the respective movements is opposite to the card reading direction or the result of the detection being that the at least one of the cards is improperly withdrawn via the opening.
3. The method according to claim 1, wherein the optical device that performs the detecting comprises one or more fiber optic sensors.
4. The method according to claim 2, wherein the restricting is performed via a lock.
5. The method according to claim 4, wherein, the restricting prohibits the card from further movement in the card reading direction.
6. The method according to claim 4, wherein the restricting presses the card is pressed between the lock and a card guide that is arranged in the opening and that guides the cards that are manually withdrawn from the card housing.
7. The method according to claim 4, wherein the lock moves in a direction perpendicular to the card reading direction.
8. The method according to claim 1, wherein one or more of the cards have invisible codes thereon.
9. The method according to claim 1, wherein one or more of the cards have invisible codes thereon placed in a symmetrical arrangement on an upper side and lower side of the one or more cards, respectively.
10. The method according to claim 8, wherein the invisible codes are invisible to the human eye when visible light is applied to the cards.
11. The method according to claim 8, wherein the one or more cards having the invisible codes also include an authenticity determination code thereon.
12. The method according to claim 2, wherein the restricting is performed in response to the improper withdrawal via the opening being the result of the detection.
13. The method according to claim 12, wherein the improper withdrawal is detected to be the result due to a detection of the withdrawal when the rules of the game prohibit the withdrawal.
14. The method according to claim 2, wherein the restricting is performed in response to the detection being that the direction of the at least one of the respective movements is opposite to the card reading direction.
15. The method to claim 2, wherein the restricting is performed based on the information read by the card reader.
16. The method according to claim 1, wherein the outputting is performed in response to the improper withdrawal via the opening being the result of the detection.
17. The method according to claim 16, wherein the improper withdrawal is detected to be the result due to a detection of the withdrawal when the rules of the game prohibit the withdrawal.
18. The method according to claim 1, wherein the outputting is performed in response to the detection being that the direction of the at least one of the respective movements is opposite to the card reading direction.
19. The method to claim 1, wherein the outputting is performed based on the information read by the card reader.
