In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth to provide a thorough understanding thereof. It may be evident, however, that the innovation can be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form to facilitate a description thereof. Various embodiments are discussed hereinafter. It should be noted that the figures are described only to facilitate the description of the embodiments. They are not intended as an exhaustive description of the invention and do not limit the scope of the invention. Additionally, an illustrated embodiment need not have all the aspects or advantages shown. Thus, in other embodiments, any of the features described herein from different embodiments may be combined.

[0022] As noted above, there exists a long-felt need in the art for an improved drill bit for a directional boring drill machine. There also exists a long-felt need in the art for a reamer drill bit device. More specifically, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a reamer drill bit device that is more durable than existing bits of the like. There also exists a long-felt need in the art for a reamer drill bit device that is more stable during use. In addition, there exists a long-felt need in the art for a reamer drill bit device that can easily penetrate a plurality of ground surface types.

[0023] The present invention, in one exemplary embodiment, is comprised of a reamer drill bit device. The device is comprised of at least one boring bit with at least one guide that attaches to and around the bit, wherein the guide helps keep the bit in place within a boring hole such that the bit turns evenly in the hole. The bit preferably has at least one tooth that is used to cut through the ground surface the bit drills through. The bit is positioned within at least one bit opening of a guide. More specifically, the guide encloses both sides of the bit. This allows the bit to cut freely while remaining unobstructed by debris.

[0024] At least one pin can be placed through openings of the bit and guide in order to secure the guide around the bit. The guide is preferably dome-like in shape with a base comprised of at least one bit. In the preferred embodiment, the guide has a plurality of bits positioned radially along the base, wherein the bits extend outwards from the base. The bits are preferably acorn drill bits that move debris such as gravel and dirt out of the hole being drilled and allow the device 100 to penetrate a plurality of ground surface types.

[0025] Accordingly, the reamer drill bit device of the present invention is particularly advantageous as it provides an improved drill bit for a directional boring drill machine. More specifically, the device provides a drill bit for boring drilling that is more durable than existing bits of the like. Further, the device is more stable during use than existing bits of the like. In addition, the device can easily penetrate a plurality of ground surface types. In this manner, the reamer drill bit device overcomes the limitations of existing boring drill bits known in the art.

[0026] Referring initially to the drawings, FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective view of one potential embodiment of a reamer drill bit device of the present invention in accordance with the disclosed architecture. The device 100 is comprised of at least one boring bit 110 with at least one guide 120 that attaches to and around the bit 110. The guide 120 helps keep the bit 110 in place within a boring hole such that the bit 110 turns evenly in the hole. The bit 110 may be any shape, style, and configuration of boring bit known in the art. In one embodiment, the bit 110 is comprised of a reamer bit. The bit 110 preferably has at least one tooth 114 that is used to cut through the ground surface the bit 110 drills through. The tooth 114 may be any size, shape, configuration, and pattern of tooth known in the art.

[0027] The bit 110 is positioned within at least one bit opening 128 of a guide 120. More specifically, the guide 120 encloses both sides 116 of the bit 110. However, the guide 120 does not cover the teeth 114 of the bit 110 to allow the teeth 114 to cut freely while remaining unobstructed by debris.

[0028] The guide 120 is comprised of at least one opening 126. The bit 110 is also comprised of at least one opening 112. At least one pin 130 can be placed through both openings 112,126 in order to secure the guide 120 around the bit 110. The pin 130 may further be secured on one or both sides of the guide 120 via at least one fastener 132 such as a clip, pin, screw, bolt, etc.

[0029] The guide 120 is preferably dome-like in shape. The guide 120 preferably has a generally circular base 122. The base 122 is comprised of at least one bit 124. In the preferred embodiment, the guide 120 has a plurality of bits 124 positioned radially along the base 122, wherein the bits 124 extend outwards from the base 122. The bits 124 are preferably acorn drill bits, but may be any bit type or cutting structure known in the art. The bits 124 move debris such as gravel and dirt out of the hole being drilled and allow the device 100 to penetrate a plurality of ground surface types.

[0030] The guide 120 may also be comprised of at least one bolt and nut assembly 140. The assembly 140 allows straps, wiring, etc. to be attached to the device 100 and back pulled through a boring hole.
