Abstract
Example embodiments are directed to circuit boards, connectors, cases, circuit board assemblies, case assemblies, devices and methods of manufacturing the same, which are common to at least two different form factors. In an example embodiment, the SSD includes a circuit board that is smaller than a case, and the circuit board is secured to the bottom surface of the case by the securing element. The securing element is spaced apart from edges of the case to allow using a circuit board that is smaller than the case.
Claims
1. A solid state drive (SSD) comprising: a case including a bottom surface having a first edge, a second edge, a third edge and a fourth edge, the second edge of the bottom surface of the case being located opposite to the first edge of the bottom surface of the case, the case including walls perpendicular to the bottom surface; at least one securing element disposed on the bottom surface of the case of the SSD separately from the walls of the case; a circuit board secured to the bottom surface of the case by the at least one securing element, the circuit board including a first surface having a first side; a plurality of circuit board connection terminals along the first edge of the case; a plurality of connector connection terminals disposed along the first side of a first surface of the circuit board, the first side of the first surface of the circuit board being disposed closer to the first edge of the bottom surface of the case than to the second edge of the bottom surface of the case; and a first package disposed on the first surface of the circuit board, and having a width and a length that is equal to or greater than the width, the length being substantially perpendicular to the width, a second package including a first memory controller, wherein a first memory is included inside the first package and the first memory is a NAND flash memory, the at least one securing element contacts at least two sides of the circuit board and receives the circuit board by a non-sliding manner, a first distance is greater than the width of the first package, the first distance being a shortest distance between the circuit board and the second edge of the bottom surface of the case, the plurality of connector connection terminals are connected to the plurality of circuit board connection terminals at the first surface of the circuit board via a conductor, and the at least one securing element is between the first edge and the second edge of the case and is entirely spaced apart from the second edge of the case.
2. The SSD of claim 1, wherein the first memory is either a NAND flash memory or a NOR flash memory.
3. The SSD of claim 1, wherein the SSD includes only one circuit board.
4. The SSD of claim 1, wherein a second distance is greater than the width of the first package, the second distance being a shortest distance between the circuit board and the third edge of the bottom surface of the case.
5. The SSD of claim 1, wherein the at least one securing element includes one or more guide rails.
6. The SSD of claim 5, wherein the one or more guide rails include a first guide rail and a second guide rail.
7. The SSD of claim 5, wherein the one or more guide rails contact a second side of the circuit board and a third side of the circuit board.
8. The SSD of claim 7, wherein the one or more guide rails contact a fourth side of the circuit board.
9. The SSD of claim 6, wherein at least a portion of the first guide rail is disposed parallel to the second edge of the bottom surface of the case.
10. The SSD of claim 9, wherein at least a portion of the second guide rail is disposed parallel to the third edge of the bottom surface of the case, the second edge of the bottom surface of the case being located opposite to the first edge of the bottom surface of the case.
11. The SSD of claim 5, wherein the one or more guide rails are spaced apart from the first, second, third and fourth edges of the bottom surface of the case.
12. A solid state drive (SSD) comprising: a case including a bottom surface having a first edge, a second edge, a third edge and a fourth edge, the second edge of the bottom surface of the case being located opposite to the first edge of the bottom surface of the case, the case including side walls perpendicular to the bottom surface; at least one securing element disposed on the bottom surface of the case of the SSD; a circuit board secured to the bottom surface of the case by the at least one securing element, the circuit board including a first surface and a second surface being opposite to the first surface, the first surface having a first side; a plurality of circuit board connection terminals along the first edge of the case; a plurality of connector connection terminals disposed along the first side of the first surface of the circuit board, the first side of the first surface of the circuit board being disposed closer to the first edge of the bottom surface of the case than to the second edge of the bottom surface of the case; and a plurality of packages disposed on the first surface of the circuit board, the plurality of packages including a first package and a second package, the first package having a width and a length that is equal to or greater than the width, the length being substantially perpendicular to the width, wherein a memory is included inside the first package and the memory is a NAND flash memory, the second package includes a memory controller, a first distance is greater than the width of the first package, the first distance being a shortest distance between the circuit board and the second edge of the bottom surface of the case, the at least one securing element contacts at least two sides of the circuit board and receives the circuit board by a non-sliding manner, the plurality of connector connection terminals are connected to the plurality of circuit board connection terminals at the first surface of the circuit board via a conductor, and the at least one securing element is between the first edge and the second edge of the case and is entirely spaced apart from the second edge of the case.
13. The SSD of claim 12, wherein the at least one securing element is on the first surface of the case, and the circuit board is secured to the first surface of the case by the at least one securing element.
14. The SSD of claim 13, wherein the at least one securing element comprises a plurality of guide rails.
15. The SSD of claim 14, wherein the plurality of guide rails contact a second side of the circuit board and a third side of the circuit board.
16. The SSD of claim 12, wherein the SSD includes only one circuit board.
17. The SSD of claim 14, wherein the plurality of guide rails are spaced apart from the first, second, third and fourth edges of the bottom surface of the case.
18. The SSD of claim 12, wherein a second distance is greater than the width of the first package, the second distance being a shortest distance between the circuit board and the third edge of the bottom surface of the case.
19. A solid state drive (SSD) comprising: a case including a first surface having a first edge, a second edge, a third edge and a fourth edge, the second edge of the first surface of the case being located opposite to the first edge of the first surface of the case, the case including side walls perpendicular to the first surface; one or more guide rails disposed on the first surface of the case of the SSD separately from the side walls of the case, and entirely spaced apart from the first edge, the second edge, the third edge and the fourth edge of the first surface of the case; a circuit board secured to the first surface of the case by the one or more guide rails; a plurality of circuit board connection terminals along the first edge of the case; a plurality of connector connection terminals disposed along a first side of a first surface of the circuit board, the first side of the first surface of the circuit board being disposed closer to the first edge of the first surface of the case than to the second edge of the first surface of the case, the plurality of connection terminals being used either for a 1.8 inch form factor or for a 2.5 inch form factor; and one or more packages disposed on the first surface of the circuit board, and including a first package and a second package, the first package having a width and a length that is equal to or greater than the width, the length being substantially perpendicular to the width, each of the length and the width being measured on a first surface of the first package, the first surface of the first package being substantially parallel with the first surface of the circuit board, wherein a memory is included inside the first package and the memory is a NAND flash memory, the second package includes a memory controller, the one or more guide rails contact at least two sides of the circuit board and receives the circuit board by a non-sliding manner, a first distance is greater than the width of the first package, the first distance being a shortest distance between the circuit board and the second edge of the first surface of the case, the plurality of connector connection terminals are connected to the plurality of circuit board connection terminals at the first surface of the circuit board via a conductor, and the one or more guide rails are between the first edge and the second edge of the case.
20. The SSD of claim 19, wherein a second distance is greater than the width of the first package, the second distance being a shortest distance between the circuit board and the second edge of the first surface of the case.
21. A solid state drive (SSD) comprising: a case including a bottom surface and side walls perpendicular to the bottom surface; one or more guide rails disposed on the bottom surface of the case of the SSD separately from the side walls of the case, and entirely spaced apart from edges of the bottom surface of the case; a circuit board secured to the bottom surface of the case by the one or more guide rails, the circuit board including a first surface; a first package and a second package are disposed on the first surface of the circuit board, wherein an area of the bottom surface of the case is at least two times greater than an area of the first surface of the circuit board, the first package includes a NAND flash memory, the second package includes a memory controller, the one or more guide rails contact at least two sides of the circuit board and receives the circuit board by a non-sliding manner, the one or more guide rails are between a first edge and a second edge of the case, and a first distance is greater than a width of the first package, the first distance being a shortest distance between the circuit board and the second edge of the bottom surface of the case.
22. The SSD of claim 21, wherein the SSD includes only one circuit board.
23. A solid state drive (SSD) comprising: a case including a first surface and side walls perpendicular to the first surface, the first surface including a first edge, a second edge, a third edge and a fourth edge; at least one securing element disposed on the first surface of the case of the SSD, and entirely spaced apart from edges of the first surface of the case; a circuit board secured to the first surface of the case by the at least one securing element; a plurality of circuit board connection terminals along the first edge of the case; a plurality of connector connection terminals disposed along a first side of a first surface of the circuit board, the first side of the first surface of the circuit board being disposed closer to the first edge of the first surface of the case than to the second edge of the first surface of the case; and one or more packages disposed on a first surface of the circuit board, wherein the case has a size for a first form factor, the one or more packages include a first package and a second package, the first package including a NAND flash memory, and the second package including a memory controller, the circuit board has a size for a second form factor that is different from the first form factor, the at least one securing element contacts at least two sides of the circuit board and receives the circuit board by a non-sliding manner, the plurality of connector connection terminals are connected to the plurality of circuit board connection terminals at the first surface of the circuit board via a conductor, the at least one securing element is between the first edge and the second edge of the case, and a first distance is greater than a width of the first package, the first distance being a shortest distance between the circuit board and the second edge of the first surface of the case.
24. The SSD of claim 23, wherein the SSD includes only one circuit board.
25. The SSD of claim 23, wherein the at least one securing element comprise one or more guide rails.
26. The SSD of claim 23, wherein an area of the first surface of the case is at least two times greater than an area of the first surface of the circuit board.
27. The SSD of claim 23, wherein the first form factor is a 2.5 inch form factor, and the second form factor is a 1.8 inch form factor.
28. The SSD of claim 4, wherein the first distance is greater than the second distance.
29. The SSD of claim 21, wherein the case has a size for a first form factor, and the circuit board has a size for a second form factor that is different from the first form factor.
