[0028] FIG. 1 is an example perspective view illustration of an implementation of a disclosed drinking cup lid applicator 100. FIGS. 2 and 3 are example top view and side view illustrations, respectively, of the drinking cup applicator 100 shown in FIG. 1. Referring to FIG. 1, the lid applicator 100 comprises an applicator body 105. The applicator body 105 may be made from any type of material, i.e., ceramic, polymer, glass, metal, wood, and composites. The applicator body 105 includes an outer surface 106 and an inner surface (not shown). The outer surface 106 and the inner surface may be made from the same material, e.g., rubber, or different types of materials, for example, the outer surface may be made from PVC and the inner surface may be made of rubber. In a preferred implementation, the inner surface and the outer surface are made from the same material, for example, rubber.

[0029] The outer surface 106 includes a top surface 110, a bottom rim 118, and one or more outer slope sides 140, 120, 130 that extend upward, inward and circumferentially from the bottom rim 118 to the top surface 110. In a preferred embodiment, the circumference of each slope side decreases as the slope side extends upward, such that the circumference of the slope side extending to the top surface is the equal to the circumference of the top surface.

[0030] In an implementation, the slope side 130 extends upward and circumferentially from the bottom rim 118 to the outer slope side 120. The outer slope side 120 extends up extends upward and circumferentially from the outer slope side 130 to the outer slope side 140. The outer slope side 140 extends upward and circumferentially from the outer slope side 120 to the top surface 110.

[0031] FIG. 4 is an example bottom perspective view of the lid applicator 100 shown in FIG. 1. In an implementation, the inner surface 116 includes an inner top surface 180 and one or more sloped ridges 121, 122, 131, 132, 133, 141. The sloped ridges 121, 122, 131, 132, 133, 141 preferably allow the lid applicator 100 to accommodate drinking cup lids of differing sizes and designs (to be disclosed hereinafter). The inner surface 116 slopes inward toward the inner top surface 180 and extends upward and circumferentially from the bottom rim 118.

[0032] Each sloped ridge 121, 122, 131, 132, 133, 141 extends upward and inward circumferentially from the sloped ridge below, such that the sloped ridge below a respective sloped ridge has a ridge circumference that is greater than the respective sloped ridge's ridge circumference. For example, sloped ridge 131 extends inward from the bottom rim 118 to sloped ridge 132, and therefore, the ridge circumference of sloped ridge 131 is greater than the ridge circumference of sloped ridge 132, which is illustratively exemplified by the radii shown in the blown-up portion of FIG. 5. FIG. 5 is an example bottom view illustration of the drinking cup lid applicator 100 of FIG. 1.

[0033] As disclosed, the ridge circumference of each sloped ridge accommodates the top of a drinking cup lid having a similar circumference. For example, the disclosed lid applicator may be placed on top of a drinking cup lid. Based on the circumference of the drinking cup lid, the lid applicator will fit securely around the top of the drinking cup lid at the slope ridge having the same or similar circumference. It is preferable that the drinking cup lid be securely within the lid applicator such that when the drinking cup lid is moved using the lid applicator, the drinking cup lid remains within the lid applicator until the drinking cup lid is placed on a drinking cup and the lid applicator removed therefrom.

[0034] An example flow diagram of an implementation for sanitarily applying a drinking cup lid using the disclosed lid applicator is shown in FIG. 4. A drinking cup applicator is stored in a location that limits exposure of the inner surface to bacteria. A user/employee may retrieve the applicator from the storage place by grabbing the applicator on the outer surface (600). The applicator is placed over the drinking cup lid such that the inner surface of the applicator surrounds at least the top portion of the drinking cup lid (602). FIGS. 7 and 8 is an example illustration of a user 740 placing an implementation of a sanitary applicator 700 onto a drinking cup lid 750. With the applicator over the cup lid, the user again grips the outer surface of the applicator and lifts the cup lid using the applicator (604).

[0035] With the beverage in the drinking cup, the user may place the cup lid on the drinking cup using the applicator (606), and presses the cup lid using the applicator on the drinking cup to ensure that the cup lid is securely on the drinking cup (608). FIG. 9 is an example illustration of the applicator 700 shown in FIG. 7 as the cup lid 750, using the applicator 700, is being placed on the drinking cup 760 by the user 740.

[0036] Once the cup lid is securely in place on the drinking cup, the user removes the applicator from the cup lid (610) and places the applicator back where the applicator is stored (612). FIG. 10 is an example illustration of applicator 700 shown in FIG. 7 as the user 740 is removing the applicator 700 from the cup lid 750 when the cup lid 750 is securely in place on the drinking cup 760. FIG. 11 is an example illustration of the drinking cup 760 including the cup lid 750 securely placed thereon.

[0037] Based on the foregoing description, it will be readily understood by those persons skilled in the art that the present invention is susceptible of broad utility and application. Many embodiments and adaptations of the present invention other than those specifically described herein, as well as many variations, modifications, and equivalent arrangements, will be apparent from or reasonably suggested by the present invention and the foregoing descriptions thereof, without departing from the substance or scope of the present invention. Accordingly, while the present invention has been described herein in detail in relation to one or more preferred embodiments, it is to be understood that this disclosure is only illustrative and exemplary of the present invention and is made merely for the purpose of providing a full and enabling disclosure of the invention. The foregoing disclosure is not intended to be construed to limit the present invention or otherwise exclude any such other embodiments, adaptations, variations, modifications or equivalent arrangements, the present invention being limited only by the claims appended hereto and the equivalents thereof.
