Abstract
A body for a blow molded waste cart and a waste cart having a blow-molded hollow body having a front wall and a central channel formed in the front wall, a lift pocket formed in the central channel, and a lift pocket reinforcement insert molded into the lift pocket. The lift pocket reinforcement has a main body formed with a longitudinal axis, an upper face, a rear face including a generally planar lift contact surface and a plurality of retention keys that retain the polymer of the parison after molding. The retention keys may be undercut to improve retention of the polymer. The lift pocket reinforcement may be blow-molded and the retention keys may be in the shape of a section of a trapezoidal cone.

[0013] The present invention will now be described with occasional reference to the specific embodiments of the invention. This invention may, however, be embodied in different forms and should not be construed as limited to the embodiments set forth herein. Rather, these embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will be thorough and complete, and will fully convey the scope of the invention to those skilled in the art.
[0014] Unless otherwise defined, all technical and scientific terms used herein have the same meaning as commonly understood by one of ordinary skill in the art to which this invention belongs. The terminology used in the description of the invention herein is for describing particular embodiments only and is not intended to be limiting of the invention. As used in the description of the invention and the appended claims, the singular forms a, an, and the are intended to include the plural forms as well, unless the context clearly indicates otherwise.
[0015] Unless otherwise indicated, all numbers expressing quantities of ingredients, properties such as molecular weight, reaction conditions, and so forth as used in the specification and claims are to be understood as being modified in all instances by the term about. Accordingly, unless otherwise indicated, the numerical properties set forth in the specification and claims are approximations that may vary depending on the desired properties sought to be obtained in embodiments of the present invention. [0017] The blow-molded cart 10, including an insert-molded reinforcement 30 of the present invention is shown in
[0018] The waste cart 10 is formed in a blow molding manufacturing process. The blow molding process begins melting the polymer material and forming a forming it into a parison. The parison is a polymer sleeve that is clamped into a mold. The mold includes two halves, which are generally referred to as the pin half and the bushing half. The mold includes a shelf for receiving reinforcing beam 30. Reinforcing beam 30 is placed on the shelf and the pin half and bushing half are clamped around the parison. Air is then blown into the mold to force the parison against the mold and the reinforcing beam 30 to form the general shape of cart 10. Once the waste cart 10 is formed and the plastic has cooled somewhat the mold is opened and the waste can is ejected.
