Abstract
An apparatus to be viewed by a driver to aid parking their car parallel to the walls of their garage. The driver will be able to park in exactly the same spot each time, at the desired distance from other cars, walls, or other stationary objects. This will help minimize banging car doors on objects on opening while maximizing use of space within the garage. The apparatus is installed in a fixed position in front of the driver at eye level as they sit comfortably in the driver's seat of their vehicle. As the driver drives their car into their garage to park, they are guided by visual cues from the apparatus to park the car in the same footprint on the floor each time.
Claims
1. A passive, visual device to help a vehicle driver park a vehicle in exactly the same spot in a garage consistently over time comprising: a first planar surface; a second planar surface, said second planar surface disposed atop said first planar surface such that the second planar surface is parallel to said first planar surface; wherein said first planar surface is separated from said second planar surface by a minimum of of an inch; wherein each said first planar surface and said second planar surface has a top surface and a bottom surface; wherein said top surface of both said first planar surface and said second planar surface is colored a light color; wherein said top surface of both said first planar surface and said second planar surface is colored with a bright stripe, running vertically and centrally across said top surface; and wherein said stripe is large enough that it can be easily discerned by the vehicle driver from the entrance to the garage.
2. The device of claim 1, further comprising: a joining member connecting said first planar surface and said second planar surface together such that said bright stripe present on both the top surface of the first planar surface and the top surface of the second planar surface are aligned; and wherein said bright stripe of said first planar surface and said second planar surface appear as one vertical line when viewed directly above.
3. The device of claim 2, wherein said second planar surface is equipped with a hole which is centrally disposed in a vertical orientation; and wherein said hole is oriented such that said bright stripe on the first planar surface can be easily seen through the hole.
4. The device of claim 3, wherein said bright stripe of said first planar surface and said bright stripe of said second planar surface appear as a single stripe when disposed at an eye level of the driver.
5. The device of claim 3, wherein said second planar surface is equipped with a point which points downward.
6. The device of claim 4, wherein the device is correctly installed in front of the driver as they sit in their vehicle which has been parked in the garage in the desired position.
7. (canceled)
8. The device of claim 5, wherein the device is correctly installed in front of the driver as they sit in their vehicle which has been parked in the garage in the desired position.
9. A passive, visual device to help a vehicle driver park a vehicle in exactly the same spot in a garage consistently over time comprising: a first planar surface; a second planar surface, said second planar surface disposed atop said first planar surface such that said second planar surface is parallel to said first planar surface; wherein said first planar surface is separated from said second planar surface by a minimum of of an inch; wherein each said first planar surface and said second planar surface has a top surface and a bottom surface; wherein said top surface of both said first planar surface and said second planar surface is colored a light color; wherein said top surface of both said first planar surface and said second planar surface is colored with a bright stripe, running vertically and centrally across said top surface; wherein said stripe is large enough that it can be easily discerned by the vehicle driver from the entrance to the garage; columns, said columns joining said first planar surface and said second planar surface together such that said bright stripe present on both the top surface of the first planar surface and the top surface of the second planar surface are aligned; wherein said bright stripe of said first planar surface and said second planar surface appear as one vertical line when viewed directly above; and wherein said bright stripe of said first planar surface and said bright stripe of said second planar surface appear as a single stripe when disposed at an eye level of the driver.
10. The device of claim 9, wherein said second planar surface is equipped with a hole which is centrally disposed in a vertical orientation; wherein said hole is oriented such that said bright stripe on said first planar surface can be easily seen through said hole; and wherein said bright stripe of said first planar surface and said bright stripe of said second planar surface appear as a single stripe when disposed at an eye level of the driver.
11. A visual aid device for parking a vehicle, comprising: a first planar surface; a second planar surface positioned parallel to and spaced apart from said first planar surface; a connecting member between said first planar surface and said second planar surface; wherein said first planar surface includes an aperture; and wherein said first planar surface and said second planar surface each include a vertical stripe.
12. The visual aid device of claim 11, wherein said first planar surface and said second planar surface are substantially rectangular-shaped.
13. The visual aid device of claim 12, wherein said first planar surface and said second planar surface are approximately 6 inches by 8 inches.
14. The visual aid device of claim 11, wherein said aperture in said first planar surface is substantially rectangular-shaped.
15. The visual aid device of claim 14, wherein said aperture is approximately 4 inches by 4 inches.
16. The visual aid device of claim 11, wherein said first planar surface and said second planar surface are made of plastic.
17. The visual aid device of claim 11, wherein said first planar surface and said second planar surface are colored white.
18. The visual aid device of claim 11, wherein said vertical stripe on each of said first planar surface and said second planar surface is red.
19. The visual aid device of claim 18, wherein said vertical stripe is approximately inch wide.
20. The visual aid device of claim 11, wherein said connecting member is approximately one inch by one inch in cross-section, and two inches in length.
