Abstract
An adjustable headband bow includes an elongated strap and a loop encircling the strap. The strap has a first surface and a second surface, and tapers from a first end to a central portion and gradually widens from the central portion to a second end The strap is curved with the first end and the second end positioned next to each other. The first end is slidably passed through the loop in one direction and the second end is slidably passed through the loop in an opposite direction, forming a bow on a headband. The elongated strap and the loop tighten the headband responsive to tension on the first end and the second end. The headband adjusts to fit a wide range of head sizes.
Claims
1. An adjustable headband bow, comprising: an elongated strap having a first surface and a second surface, said elongated strap tapering from a first end to a central portion and gradually widening from the central portion to a second end; and a loop encircling the elongated strap; wherein the elongated strap is curved such that the first end and the second end are positioned adjacent to each other with the first end slidably passed through the loop in a first direction and the second end slidably passed through the loop in a second direction opposite the first direction, forming a bow on a headband; and wherein the elongated strap and the loop are configured to tighten the headband responsive to tension on the first end and the second end.
2. The adjustable headband bow of claim 1, wherein the first end and the second end have equal widths.
3. The adjustable headband bow of claim 1, wherein the first end and the second end have a texture different than a texture of the central portion.
4. The adjustable headband bow of claim 1, wherein within the loop the elongated strap has a longitudinal fold proximate to the first end and a longitudinal fold proximate to the second end.
5. The adjustable headband bow of claim 1, wherein the elongated strap and the loop are configured to loosen the headband responsive to spreading the central portion.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0015] The following detailed description is of the best currently contemplated modes of carrying out exemplary embodiments of the invention. The description is not to be taken in a limiting sense but is made merely for the purpose of illustrating the general principles of the invention, since the scope of the invention is best defined by the appended claims.
[0016] Broadly, one embodiment of the present invention is an adjustable headband that forms a bow where the headband fabric crosses that is held in place with a one-piece fabric headband tie.
[0017] The materials of manufacture are not particularly limited. In some embodiments, fabrics may be select such that the bow has a first texture, and the headband has a second, different texture. In some embodiments, woven, fusible interfacing may be used when sewing the band.
[0018] The inventive headband bow may be manufactured by cutting fabric into an elongated strap with a half bow shape on each end, i.e., two ends having a substantially triangular shape tapering to a narrower, substantially rectangular central portion or strip of fabric extending therebetween. The triangular shaped portions may have the same width at the ends. A second, rectangular piece of fabric may also be cut, wrapped around the strap with the half bow-shaped ends crossed to form a full bow shape, and the ends of the headband tie sewn together to form a ring around the center of the bow. The two ends pass through the ring in opposite directions.
[0019] Once the headband bow is formed with the headband tie wrapped around to make the headband to encircle the head, a user may pull both sides of the headband to make the headband larger or pull both ends of the bow to make the headband smaller. If the headband is adjusted to a larger size, the bow becomes smaller. If the headband is adjusted to a smaller size, the bow becomes larger, responsive to tension on the ends.
