    Abstract

A mesh fence which includes a series of spaced vertical stay wires crossed by a series of spaced horizontal line wires, with at least some of the intersections of the stay wires and line wires secured by a knot, in which at least one of the line wires is made of barbed wire.

    Claims

    1. A mesh fence which includes; a series of spaced vertical stay wires; a series of spaced horizontal line wires that cross said stay wires and contact said stay wires at intersections, with at least some of the intersections of the stay wires and the line wires secured by a knot, in which at least one of the line wires is made of barbed wire.

    2. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 1, wherein the line wires have an uppermost when wire that is made of barbed wire.

    3. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 1, wherein more than one of said line wires is made of barbed wire.

    4. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 2, wherein more than one of said line wires is made of barbed wire.

    5. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 1, wherein each of said intersections of each of said stay wires and each of said line wires are secured by a wire knot.

    6. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 2, wherein each of said intersections of each of said stay wires and each of said line wires are secured by a knot.

    7. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 1, wherein the fence has a top and a bottom and each of said stay wires is a continuous wire extending from the bottom of the fence to the top of the fence.

    8. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 2, wherein the fence has a top and a bottom and each of said stay wires is a continuous wire extending from the bottom of the fence to the top of the fence.

    9. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 5, wherein each of said stay wires comprises separate sections of stay wire between pairs of adjacent line wires and the stay wires have ends knotted onto the adjacent line wires to form wire knots.

    10. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 6, wherein each of said stay wires comprises separate sections of stay wire between pairs of adjacent line wires and the stay wires have ends knotted onto the adjacent line wires to form wire knots.

    11. The mesh fence as claimed in claim 1, wherein the barbed wire is selected from a group consisting of: continuous twist barbed wire and reverse twist barbed wire.

    Description

BEST MODE FOR CARRYING OUT THE INVENTION

[0013] Referring to the drawing, a section of mesh fence 10 is formed from a series of spaced vertical stay wires 11 crossed by a series of spaced horizontal line wires 12. Each intersection of stay and line wires is secured by a knot 13 which may be of any of a range of known types. All of the stay wires 11, and all of the line wires 12 except for the uppermost line wire 14 are made of smooth surfaced wire. However, the uppermost line wire 14 is made of barbed wire which is provided in known manner with a series of spaced barbs 15.

[0014] The line wire 14 is secured to each intersecting stay wire by a knot 13, in known manner.

[0015] The resulting mesh fence is formed and handled as a complete mesh fence, and can be erected in the same manner as a mesh fence, but nevertheless provides an uppermost run of barbed wire which is integral with, and thus supported by, the mesh. This provides a very strong and stock-resistant fence. It will be appreciated that this avoids the extra labour of installing a further upper run of barbed wire above a conventional mesh fence.
