    DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0020] A modified training heavy bag 10 for boxing and targets can be seen in FIG. 1 of the drawings. The hanging heavy bag 10 has a plurality of target mounting fitting inserts 11 positioned there about. Each mounting insert 11 has a support enclosure 12 with a bottom, top, sides and a back surface. An attachment flange 13 extends around its perimeter edge for attachment to the annular cover wall 14 of the bag 10. Securing the flange 12 can be by sewing or adhesive mechanisms to form a strong bond to the bag wall surface. Once attached, the insert 11 defines a recessed mounting enclosure that can be positioned anywhere on the bag surface so as to allow for multiple select points to which to secure an analogue boxing target 15 such as a bag or human head or other target configurations.

[0021] A closure insert panel assembly 16 fitted within the mounting fitting insert has exterior surface panels 16A with an attached foam infill 16B. The closure insert assembly 16 may be frictionally fit within the insert enclosure as seen in FIG. 2 of the drawings providing a continuous bag surface hiding the insert 11.

[0022] A plurality of Velcro retainment strips 17 are secured within the respective interior surface S of the insert 11 as seen in FIG. 5 of the drawings. They will provide removable attachment resilient retainment points for a target mounting base 18, best seen in FIGS. 4 and 5 of the drawings. The mounting base 18 has a rigid rectangular support member 19 with multiple strap attachment loops 20 along its respective top and bottom and edges 20A, 20B, 20C, 20D and 20E perimeter edges. The attached elongated loops 20 are secured to the surface 19 by acceptable means known within the art. Pairs of oppositely disposed attachment straps 21 and 22 are secured respectively to the loops 20 providing an attachment mechanism in combination with the attachment straps. A target attachment sleeve fitting 23 extends from the central surface of the main support member 19 base defining a registration engagement attachment for a boxing target 15 which, in this example, is a resilient bag assembly 23 as seen in FIG. 6 of the drawings. The resilient bag assembly 23 has a spring 24 and engagement end fitting 25 that is secured to a target bag 26. It will be evident that the attachment target can be used such as a human head analogue, not shown, depending on the user's inclination.

[0023] The key aspect of the current bag configuration is that by modifying a typical heavy bag 10 with the selectively positioned mounting inserts 11 that are hidden when not in use by the removable closure panel assembly 16 allows for alternate use as a standard heavy bag. The option of placement of the resilient analogue targets 16 by removing select padded closure panel infill assembly 16A exposing the mounting recess 11 then attaching the resilient target assembly 16 imparts a unique multi-use heavy bag configuration for improved and varied training sessions. The punching targets 16 will respond to impact dependent on spring characteristics.

[0024] Referring now to FIGS. 9-15 of the drawings, an alternate form of the invention can be seen wherein a self-supporting boxing work out bag 27 with a weighted base 28 and a support column 29 extending therefrom on which a cylindrical padded bag 30 is removably positioned.

[0025] A central support core 31 supports the cylinder padded bag 30 removable positioned thereon. A number of user determined removable padded insert panels 33 allow for select placement of punching bag assemblies to support targets 34 using a twist lock assembly 35 that is registerable within an aligned receiving access fitting 36 in the padded surface. It will be evident that other locking assemblies, not shown, can be used without departing from the spirit of the invention.

[0026] The target receiving access fittings 36 in the padded surface 32 each have cylinder interior 37 with respective spiral registration channels 37A formed therein.

[0027] Correspondingly, each of the padded access panels 33 have a cylindrical fitting 38 with a pair of channel registration lugs 39 extending therefrom.

[0028] The targets 34 each have a modified cylinder fitting 40, best seen in FIG. 11 of the drawings wherein the cylinder fitting 40 has a target attachment spring 41 secured in its free end at 40A and extending to a target element representation 41 (head) or 42 (target bag).

[0029] It will be evident that the respective registration lugs 39 on both the target 34 and the access panels 33 will upon insertion and rotation pull the respective panels and target into the access opening and lock it in place as seen in FIGS. 10 and 11 of the drawings.

[0030] The system, therefore, allows the user to decide where to place the targets 34 in the series of predetermined mounting locations there about. Targets 34 can be of a variety of different configurations and mounting structures to support same and in this example illustrates a target bag 42 supported by the resilient spring member 41.

[0031] A variety of targets can therefore be selectively secured from within the cylinder padded surface 32. Targets may be of any configuration such as the workout bag 42A or a boxing head representation 42A, as noted and seen in FIG. 9 of the drawings.

[0032] The targets 34 can therefore be adapted, as noted, different exercises and sport configurations from boxing to martial arts including but not limited to bags, armatures, human head representations such as 40 and other target configurations.

[0033] It will be evident therefore that this form of the invention provides a universality interchanging different target and workout configurations on the surface in the designated target receiving access fittings 36 thus making the workout bag much more universal.

[0034] It will thus be seen that a new and novel modification of a heavy bag and self-supporting stand-up vertical bag with enhanced target positioning and practice has been illustrated and described and it will be apparent to those skilled in the art that various changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit of the invention. Therefore, I claim:
