Laundry Basket with Handrail Assist

Abstract

An article of manufacture for providing a laundry basket with handrail assist according to the present invention is disclosed.

Claims

1. An article of manufacture providing a laundry basket with handrail assist, the laundry basket comprises: a carrying basket having a top edge, a plurality of sides having a longer length and a shorter length, and a plurality of handles in each of the plurality of sides; an extended lip along the top edge of the carrying basket; and a set of extended lips/channels coupled to the extended lip of the top edge of the shorter lengths, the set of extended lips/channels having an opening between a part of the extended lips/channels on each side exposing the plurality of handles to be grasped.

2. The article of manufacture according to claim 1, wherein the set of extended lips/channels is coupled to the extended lip along the top edge of the carrying basket using attachment devices.

3. The article of manufacture according to claim 2, wherein the attachment devices are screws.

4. The article of manufacture according to claim 1, wherein the set of extended lips/channels is integrated into the extended lip channel along each of the shorter lengths.

5. The article of manufacture according to claim 1, wherein the carrying basket is made of injection molded plastic material.

To better understand the present invention, FIG. 1 illustrates a side perspective of an example embodiment of an article of manufacture providing a laundry basket with handrail assist according to the present invention.

[0023] The laundry basket 101 has an extended lip/channel 102a-d surrounding the handles on both sides 103a-d. The extended lip/channel 102a-d runs the entire length of the handle sides 104a-b of the basket except for openings 105a-b to utilize the handles 103a-b. The extended lip/channel 102a-d may rest on and slowly slide down one handrail at the speed of the user allowing the user to safely keep one hand on the basket 101 and one hand on the handrail. The side lips/channels 102a-d are rounded off enough to not be impeded by the handrail brackets.

[0024] Ultimately, a manufactured laundry basket 101 would have the side lips/channels 102a-d seamlessly incorporated and rounded into the body of the laundry basket 101 as shown in FIG. 4. The laundry basket 101 may be made from injection molded plastic material or similar synthetic materials that provide a lightweight basket with sufficient strength to hold clothing and linens/towels. In alternate embodiments, the side lips/channels 102a-d may be separately formed extensions made of a rigid material that can be attached by screws to the laundry basket 101.

The laundry basket 101 is again shown with extended lips/channels 102a-d surrounding the handles on both sides 103a-d. The use of the laundry basket 101 allows a user to be more stable and in control while walking downstairs with a laundry basket because of having the ability to safely rest one side of the basket on the handrail while also keeping one hand on the handrail.

A top view of the laundry basket 101 is shown with extended lips/channels 102a-d surrounding the handles on both sides 103a-d. The extended lips/channels 102a-d may be seen running the entire length of the handle sides 104a-b of the basket except for openings 105a-b to utilize the handles 103a-b.

[0027] FIG. 4 illustrates a side perspective view of another embodiment of an article of manufacture providing a laundry basket with handrail assist according to the present invention. In this embodiment 400, the laundry basket 400 is formed with integrated extended lips/channels 402a-b. In contrast to the embodiments of FIGS. 1-3, the alternate embodiment of FIG. 4 400, includes a pair of handle openings 403a-b within the integrated extended lips/channels 402a-b that are arranged to permit the user to grasp both the handle openings 403a-b in the integrated extended lips/channels 402a-b with a corresponding handles 103a-c at the same time. The laundry basket 400 may also include a pattern of small vent openings 404a-d having various shapes, sizes, and arrangements in the side walls of the laundry basket 401 for both aesthetic and functional venting purposes.
