Abstract
Devices are provided for carrying a piece of furniture. An example device includes a set of arms that are transitionable, relative to each other, between first and second positions. The device also includes a first and second grip features and a locking mechanism configured to lock the set of arms in the second position. When the set of arms are in the first position, the first and second grip features are spaced apart by a first distance such that the first and second grip features are positionable around a portion of the piece of furniture. When the set of arms are in the second position, the first and second grip features are spaced apart by a second distance that is less than the first distance such that the first and second grip features, when the locking mechanism is locked, are configured to securely hold the piece of furniture therebetween.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0040] Some example embodiments now will be described more fully hereinafter with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which some, but not all example embodiments are shown. Indeed, the examples described and pictured herein should not be construed as being limiting as to the scope, applicability or configuration of the present disclosure. Rather, these example embodiments are provided so that this disclosure will satisfy applicable legal requirements. Like reference numerals refer to like elements throughout.

[0044] It should be appreciated that, in some embodiments, the device 100 may not include a locking mechanism at all. For example, the connecting portion 110 may instead be expandable such that, when a user applies force onto the device 100 by lifting the connecting portion 110, the second end 106B of the first arm 106 and the second end 106B of the second arm 108 move farther apart and the first end 106A of the first arm 106 and the first end 108A of the second arm 108 move closer together due to the expansion of the connection portion 110. Such movement would then cause the piece of furniture (e.g., the mattress 102) to be gripped between the grip features without need for a locking mechanism. The expansion of the connecting portion 110 may be achieved using an expandable material, a biasing member, or any other configuration. Other configurations are also contemplated within the scope of this disclosure to eliminate or work with a locking mechanism.
[0045]
[0046] It should be appreciated that the first distance D1 and the second distance D2 may be any value. For example, in some embodiments, the first distance D1 may be approximately 16 inches and the second distance D2 may be approximately 8 inches. In other embodiments, however, other values for the first distance D1 and the second distance D2 are possible. In this regard, the second distance may be any value and variable so as to enable securement of differently sized/shaped pieces of furniture.
[0047] Further, in some embodiments, the device 100 and the locking mechanism 112 may be configured such that the set of arms are parallel when in the first position, and additionally or alternatively, in some embodiments, the device 100 and the locking mechanism 112 may be configured such that the set of arms are parallel when in the second position. Further, in some other embodiments, the device 100 and the locking mechanism 112 may be configured such that the set of arms are not parallel in either of the first position or the second position.
[0048] It should be appreciated that the device 100 may be made of any material. For example, some or all of the components of the device 100 may be comprised of aluminum in some embodiments, while in some other embodiments, some or all of the components of the device 100 may be comprised of plastic. Other materials are also contemplated within the scope of this disclosure.
[0049]
[0050] In some embodiments, the bar 128 of the locking mechanism 112 may also be the connecting portion 110, but in other embodiments, such as that shown in

Example Flowchart(s)
[0058] Embodiments of the present disclosure provide various methods for manufacturing a device, such as described herein. Various examples of the operations performed in accordance with some embodiments of the present disclosure will now be provided with reference to
[0059]
[0060] At operation 204, the method 200 may include attaching a first grip feature to the first arm such that it is positioned proximate the second end of the first arm and attaching a second grip feature to the second arm such that it is positioned proximate the second end of the second arm. For example, the first grip feature and the second grip feature may be disc shaped.
[0061] At operation 206, the method 200 may include providing a locking mechanism configured to lock the set of arms when the set of arms are in the second position. For example, the device may be configured such that, when the set of arms is in the first position, the first grip feature is spaced apart from the second grip feature by a first distance such that the first grip feature and the second grip feature are positionable around a portion of the piece of furniture. Further, the device may be configured such that, when the set of arms is in the second position, the first grip feature is spaced apart from the second grip feature by a second distance that is less than the first distance such that the first grip feature and the second grip feature, when the locking mechanism is locked, are configured to securely hold the piece of furniture therebetween. It should be appreciated, however, that the locking mechanism may be optional.
[0062] At operation 208, the method 200 may include providing a connecting portion between the set of arms. For example, in some embodiments, the connecting portion may enable a user to exert a force on the device by picking it up, and in some further embodiments, the connecting portion may include a handle. It should be appreciated, however, that the connecting portion may be optional.
[0063] Additional operations are also contemplated, such as providing a handle, such as described herein.
[0064] Unless otherwise expressly stated, it is in no way intended that any method set forth herein be construed as requiring that its steps be performed in a specific order. Accordingly, where a method claim does not actually recite an order to be followed by its steps or it is not otherwise specifically stated in the claims or descriptions that the steps are to be limited to a specific order, it is no way intended that any particular order be inferred.
CONCLUSION
[0065] Many modifications and other embodiments of the inventions set forth herein may come to mind to one skilled in the art to which these inventions pertain having the benefit of the teachings presented in the foregoing descriptions and the associated drawings. Therefore, it is to be understood that the embodiments of the invention are not to be limited to the specific embodiments disclosed and that modifications and other embodiments are intended to be included within the scope of the invention. Moreover, although the foregoing descriptions and the associated drawings describe example embodiments in the context of certain example combinations of elements and/or functions, it should be appreciated that different combinations of elements and/or functions may be provided by alternative embodiments without departing from the scope of the invention. In this regard, for example, different combinations of elements and/or functions than those explicitly described above are also contemplated within the scope of the invention. Although specific terms are employed herein, they are used in a generic and descriptive sense only and not for purposes of limitation.
