DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0035]
[0036] The display unit 1 is formed on that side of the body outer skin 22 that faces the vehicle inner side B by the method according to the invention, which will be described below. The display unit 1 has the display element 10 which is made, for example, of an e-paper film 11 and has an active display region 12 and a fastening edge 13. Instead of an e-paper film, it is also possible to provide any other type of electrically operated displays, for example LCD displays, OLED displays, or the like.
[0037] The e-paper film 11 may indeed be designed for attachment in a flat body region, but it may also have a two-dimensionally or three-dimensionally curved form in order to be able to match the spatial shape of the body outer skin 22. An e-paper film 11 suitable for this has a segmented form, as will be described below in connection with
[0038] The display element 10, for example the e-paper film 11 shown here, is formed with a fastening edge 13, which is connected to the body outer skin 22 by means of at least one adhesive web 25 applied to the inner surface 23. The fastening edge 13 also has electrical connection contacts for the display element 10, for example electrical ground contacts, into which, for example, conductor tracks of the e-paper film 11 lead. These electrical ground contacts make electrically conductive contact, for example by way of spot soldering or spot welding, with the motor vehicle body 20 as an electrical ground 15 of the motor vehicle.
[0039] An electrical supply and control device 16, illustrated only schematically in the figures, for the display element 10 is electrically conductively connected via a first electrical supply line 17 to second connection contacts, for example positive pole contacts 18, formed in the fastening edge 13 of the display element 10. A second electrical supply line 19 leads from the electrical supply and control device 16 to the electrical ground 15 of the motor vehicle.
[0040] A potting compound 26, which surrounds the display element, that is in this case the e-paper film 11, on the back side and at the edges and is either connected there directly to the inner surface 23 of the body outer skin 22 or is sealingly adhesively bonded by means of an adhesive layer 27 surrounding the periphery of the viewing window aperture 24, is applied to the back side of the display element 10, which faces the vehicle inner side B. In this way, the potting compound 26 forms an internal covering 28, which liquid-tightly seals the display element 10, in this case formed by the e-paper film 11, with respect to the body outer skin 22.
[0041] A mechanically stiffer cover 29 forms an external covering 29, covers the unit of the display element 10 and the internal covering 28 on the vehicle inner side B, and is mechanically fixedly connected to the body outer skin 22, spanning the viewing window aperture 24. As a result, the external cover 29 stiffens the body outer skin 22 in the region of the viewing window aperture 24.
[0042] A transparent film 30, which adheres fixedly, for example is adhesively bonded, to the body outer skin 22 is provided on the outer surface 21 of the body outer skin 22. The transparent film 30 spans the at least one viewing window aperture 24 and forms a transparent viewing window layer 3 there. The viewing window aperture 24, and thus also the space where the display element 10 is, is thus also sealed with respect to the surrounding area of the motor vehicle 2 on the outer side A against the ingress of moisture.
[0043] A second, modified embodiment of a display unit 1 integrated in the body outer skin 22 of a motor vehicle body 20 of a motor vehicle 2 by an alternative variant of the method according to the invention is illustrated in
[0044]
[0045] If a tensile force which acts transversely, for example at right angles, to the longitudinal extent of an expansion slot is applied to this segmented e-paper film 11 in the film surface, the width of the expansion slot increases, as a result of which the decorative film 2 locally expands in this region transversely to the longitudinal extent. If a compressive force or shear force which acts toward the center of a compression element 40 is applied to the e-paper film 11 in the film surface, the width of at least one compression slot is reduced, as a result of which the e-paper film 11 is locally compressed in this region. These local expansion and compression capabilities of the segmented e-paper film 11 make it possible to three-dimensionally deform the e-paper film 11 and adapt it to body curvatures.
[0046]
[0047] First of all, an already shaped body panel 100, which forms a body structure 20 having the body outer skin 22, is provided in step a) for the method according to the invention. In a subsequent step b), at least one viewing window aperture 24 is introduced into the body outer skin 22, for example by lasering. This body outer skin 22 provided with viewing window apertures 24 is then optionally subjected to cathodic dip coating (CDC) in a step b) and in so doing provided with an anticorrosion layer. Subsequently, in a step c), at least one adhesive web 25 is deposited on the inner surface 23 of the body outer skin 22 in the region of the edges of the at least one viewing window aperture 24. As an alternative, the adhesive may be deposited on a large area of the inner surface 23 of the body outer skin 22 in step c, and it thus forms a large-area adhesive layer 25. In an intermediate step c), the outer surface 21 of the body outer skin 22 is provided with a paint finish having at least one coat of paint 22.
[0048] In step d), the display element 10 formed in this case by an e-paper film 11 segmented in a pretreatment step v) is then either locally applied to the adhesive web(s) 25 or over a large area to the large-area adhesive layer 25. After thatafter the body element is turned overin step e), a potting compound 26 is applied, from the vehicle inner side B, to the display element 10 and to that region of the inner surface 23 of the body outer skin 22 that surrounds the display element 10 to form an internal covering 28 of the display unit 1, in order to seal the display element 10 with respect to the surrounding area on the vehicle inner side B later on.
[0049] Subsequently, after preparing corresponding joins on the inner surface 23 of the body outer skin 22 in preparation steps e) and e), an external covering 29, for example a mechanically stiffer cover 29, covering the display unit 1 is applied and connected, preferably adhesively bonded, to the inner surface 23 of the body outer skin 22 in a further step e). After that, a transparent viewing window layer 3, 3 is attached in the region of the viewing window aperture 24. This is done either in step f) by applying a transparent film 30, from the body outer side, to the outer surface 21 of the body outer skin 22 at least in the region of the at least one viewing window aperture 24, sealingly surrounding the edges of the viewing window aperture 24, or in the alternative step f) by potting the at least one viewing window aperture 24 with a transparent potting compound 26, in order to sealingly close the viewing window aperture 24, and subsequently sanding and polishing the hardened transparent potting compound 26 in step f). Lastly, the display element 10 is also electrically connected to an electrical energy supply and control device 16 in step g).
