SKI PROTECTION DEVICE

Abstract

A ski protection device that is configured to be surroundably mounted to a snow ski so as to provide protection thereof wherein the present invention further facilitates an ability for a user to transport the snow ski while encased in the present invention on a conventional roof rack. The present invention includes a body having a wall member manufactured from nylon or similar material that creates an interior volume suitable for disposing a snow ski therein. The body of the present invention includes a first portion and a second portion contiguously formed wherein the second portion has a width greater than that of the first portion. Proximate the second end of the body is an end portion. The end portion is movable to a second position wherein the end portion is folded back over to be adjacent the second end of the body and secured thereto utilizing a strap member.

Claims

1. A ski protection device that is configured to inhibit debris from contacting a ski during transport wherein the ski protection device comprises: a body, said body having a wall member wherein said wall member is constructed to form an interior volume, said body having a first end and a second end, said second end of said body having an opening providing access to said interior volume of said body, said body being comprised of a first portion and a second portion, said first portion and said second portion of said body being contiguously formed; an end portion, said end portion being contiguously formed at said second end of said body, said end portion being movable from a first position to a second position; and a strap member, said strap member being secured to said end portion, said strap member configured to surroundably mount said end portion, said strap member operable to maintain said end portion in said second position.

The ski protection device that is configured to inhibit debris from contacting a ski during transport as recited in claim 1, wherein said body further includes an end member, said end member being integrally formed on said first end of said body, said end member being manufactured from a heavier material than said body.

3. The ski protection device that is configured to inhibit debris from contacting a ski during transport as recited in claim 2, wherein in said second position said end portion is folded over against said body proximate said second end thereof wherein said end portion is adjacent said body.

4. The ski protection device that is configured to inhibit debris from contacting a ski during transport as recited in claim 3, wherein said second portion of said body has a width that is greater than a width of said first portion of said body.

5. The ski protection device that is configured to inhibit debris from contacting a ski during transport as recited in claim 4, wherein said body is manufactured from nylon.

The ski protection device that is configured to inhibit debris from contacting a ski during transport as recited in claim 5, wherein the ski protection device facilitates an ability to transport a ski stored in the ski protection device on a conventional roof rack while a ski is disposed within the ski protection device.

[0020] Referring in particular to the Figures submitted herewith, the ski protection device 100 includes a body 10 wherein the body 10 is formed from wall member 12. The wall member 12 is formed so as to create an interior volume such that the body 10 can accommodate a single snow ski within the interior volume of the body 10. The body 10 includes a first end 8 and a second end 9 having an opening 7 at the second end 9. It should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the length of the body 10 is suitable to accommodate a snow ski completely within the interior volume of the body 10. While the ski protection device 100 is discussed herein being employed for a snow ski, it should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the present invention could be utilized for other objects such as but not limited to snowboards.

[0021] The body 10 is comprised of a first portion 15 and a second portion 17 wherein the first portion 15 and second portion 17 are contiguous and integrally formed. The second portion 17 has a width that is greater than that of the width of the first portion 15. The second portion 17 is constructed with a greater width so as to accommodate bindings and other mechanical elements that are typically secured to the upper surface of a snow ski. The first end 8 has formed thereon an end member 20. End member 20 is integrally formed onto the body 10 utilizing suitable durable techniques such as but not limited to stitching. The end member 20 is manufactured from a heavier material than the body 10 so as to inhibit a tip of a snow ski from being able to penetrate through the body 10 at the first end 8 thereof. It is contemplated within the scope of the present invention that the end member 20 could be disposed within the interior volume of the body 10 and on the exterior as illustrated herein. Furthermore, it is additionally contemplated within the scope of the present invention that the end member 20 could be provided in alternate sizes and be manufactured from various suitable materials.

[0022] Proximate the second end 9 of the body 10 is end portion 30. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention the end portion 30 extends beyond the rear end of a snow ski ensuing the snow ski being inserted into the interior volume of the body 10. The end portion 30 is movable to its second position, illustrated herein in FIG. 2, wherein the end portion 30 is adjacent the body 10 proximate the second end 9 thereof. In its second position the end portion 30 is secured with strap member 40. Strap member 40 is configured to surroundably mount the end portion 30 and second end 9 of the body 10 so as to releasably secure the end portion 30 in its second position. In a preferred embodiment of the present invention the strap member 40 is manufactured from hook and loop material but it is contemplated within the scope of the present invention that the strap member 40 could be manufactured from alternate suitable materials. It is contemplated within the scope of the present invention that the end portion 30 could remain in its first position subsequent installation of a snow ski having a length equivalent to that of the body 10 wherein the strap member 40 would be utilized to cinch the end portion 30 closed.

[0023] While the preferred embodiment is configured to provide protection of a snow ski while further allowing for use of conventional transportation devices such as but not limited to roof racks, it should be understood within the scope of the present invention that alternate objects could be placed within the present invention so as to provide protection thereof.
