Abstract
Machines that plant crop seed generally compact the seed rows with their tires. The solution to this problem is to cut or mold notches into the tire lugs in the area that would pass directly above the planted seeds and adjacent to the planted seeds. Tires could also be molded with the notches in place during the tire manufacturing process. If lateral beaming strength is needed in the tire, ribs can be formed on the inside of the tire either intermittent or continuous across the width of the tire. Notching also could be done selectively on tires after molding.
Claims
1. For a tired wheeled machine that plants crop seed in rows in a crop growing field, the improvement which comprises: at least one of the tires of the tired wheeled machine having at least one notch extending circumferentially around the tires.
2. The improved tired wheeled machine of claim 1, wherein the notches are generally U-shaped.
3. The improved tired wheeled machine of claim 1, wherein the profile of the soil after the seed planting apparatus has passed thereover shows is a mound in which the seeds have been sown.
4. The improved tired wheeled machine of claim 1, wherein 2 of the tires of the tired wheeled machine have at least one notch extending circumferentially around the tires.
5. The improved tired wheeled machine of claim 4, wherein 4 of the tires of the tired wheeled machine have at least one notch extending circumferentially around the tires.
6. The improved tired wheeled machine of claim 1, wherein the tire of the tired wheeled machine has a stiffening rib inside the tire where the notch is located.
7. The improved tired wheeled machine of claim 4, wherein the tires of the tired wheeled machine have a stiffening rib inside the tire where the notch is located.
8. The improved tired wheeled machine of claim 5, wherein the tires of the tired wheeled machine have a stiffening rib inside the tire where the notch is located.
9. For a tracked machine that plants crop seed in rows in a crop growing field, the improvement which comprises: at least one of the tracks of the tracked machine has at least one notch extending circumferentially around the track.
10. The improved tracked machine of claim 10, wherein the notches are generally U-shaped.
11. The improved tracked machine of claim 10, wherein 2 of the tracks of the tracked machine have at least one notch extending circumferentially around the tires.
12. In a method for planting crop seeds in rows in a crop growing field wherein a tired wheeled machine traverses the crop growing field and plans crop seeds in rows, the improved method which comprises: traversing the crop growing field with a tired wheeled machine wherein tires of the tired wheeled machine have at least one notch extending circumferentially around the tires.
13. The improved method of claim 12, wherein the profile of the soil after the seed planting apparatus has passed thereover is a mound in which the seeds have been sown.
14. The improved method of claim 12, wherein the provided notches are generally U-shaped.
15. The method of claim 12, wherein 2 of the tires of the tired wheeled machine have the at least one notch extending circumferentially around the tires.
16. The improved tired wheeled machine of claim 15, wherein 4 of the tires of the tired wheeled machine have the at least one notch extending circumferentially around the tires.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0021] Referring initially to
[0022] Seed bar 11 has a plurality of planting mechanisms, as typified by planting mechanisms 24-32. The number of such planting mechanisms can be greater or lesser than is illustrated in
[0023] Referring now also to
[0024] It also will be observed that each of the wheels have a notch, groove, or depression, as illustrated by notch 36 in tired wheel assembly 12, in alignment with 2 sets of the angled rotating cutting wheels, which prevents the tired wheel assemblies from pushing the crop seeds too far into the ground.
[0025] Referring now also to
[0026] The notched tire concept also can be applied to seed planting machines that are tracked, such as is illustrated in
[0027] Referring with particular reference to
