Abstract
A hugging doll equipped with a mechanical hugging apparatus to cause a doll and or stuffed character to return a hug in a lifelike fashion.
Claims
1. A hugging doll comprising: a doll configured to enclose a hugging device comprising: a rear assembly having a housing with a first arm and a second arm pivotally secured to the ends of the housing and rotatably connected to hinges on the rear housing assembly, each of the arms includes a first elongated section and a second anterior section; a front compression plate assembly having a first and second legs perpendicularly extending from the compression surface, the front compression plate assembly apposing the rear assembly; and a polyester fiberfill between the rear assembly and the front compression plate assembly; wherein in a first position the arms of the rear assembly are in an open position and wherein a second position the legs of the front compression plate assembly engage with the anterior part of the first and second arms of the rear assembly and rotate the arms around the hinges to an open position.
2. The hugging doll of claim 1 wherein the density of the polyester fiberfill is between 1.3 to 1.5 g/cm.sup.3.
3. The hugging doll of claim 2 wherein the rear assembly comprises a first support plate and a second support plate, the second support plate including at least two hinges and at least two protruding arms.
4. The hugging doll of claim 2 wherein the front compression plate comprises a compression surface and first and second legs perpendicularly extending from the compression surface.
5. The hugging doll of claim 4 wherein the legs include a proximal and a distal end and are rounded at the distal end.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTIONS
[0009] The hugging doll 1 illustrated in
[0010] The hugging apparatus is illustrated in
[0011] The arms of the rear assembly include an elongated first section 10 with a second anterior section 11 that is angled from the elongated first section. The arms are pivotaly connected to the rear assembly and maintained in a first open position and rotate to a second closed position when force is exerted on the rear assembly from the front compression assembly.
[0012] The compression plate assembly includes a compression surface 12 and first and second legs 13, 14 perpendicularly extending from the compression surface. Each leg has a proximal and distal end and where the proximal end is secured to the compression surface and the distal end extends from the compression surface to slidably engage with the anterior part of the first and second arms of the rear assembly. The distal end of each leg is rounded to slidably move along the anterior section of each arm.
[0013]
[0014] In use, the body is inserted into a plush doll with the rear assembly and the front compression plate in apposition to each other and with polyester fiberfill or foam contained between them. The first and second arms of the rear assembly are each inserted through the arms of the plush toy to cause movement of the arms and are secured within the arms to enable movement of the arms. In a first position, the force of the polyester fill against the rear assembly maintains the arms of the rear assembly in an open position. A user may exert a compressive force against the compression surface of the compressive assembly to engage with the anterior part of the first and second arms of the rear assembly and rotate the arms around the hinge to a second or closed position. The compressive force exerted is strong enough to move the arms of the compressive face and also compress the polyester fiberfill or foam and rotate the arms of the rear assembly. The pressure or force applied to the arms causes the distal ends of the arms to move toward each other to the closed position, mimicking a hugging action in the arms of the plush toy.
