    Abstract

    A screw compressor includes: a containment body including: a suction chamber and a suction port for a fluid to be compressed; a delivery chamber and a discharge port for the compressed fluid; a containment seat for two helical compression rotors; two helical compression rotors; an electric motor to actuate the helical compression rotors; lubrication for the helical compression rotors; filtration of the compressed fluid; an inverter connected to the electric motor; an electronic control unit configured to control the inverter; a low-pressure sensor located at the suction port and connected to the electronic control unit; a high-pressure sensor located at the discharge port and connected to the electronic control unit; an adjustment spool configured for adjusting the width of an outlet opening from the compression rotor chamber; a fluid actuator to move the adjustment spool; a current meter that measures the electric current absorbed by the electric motor.

    Claims

    1. A screw compressor, particularly for refrigeration circuits, comprising: a containment body in turn comprising: a suction chamber and a suction port for a fluid to be compressed; a delivery chamber and a discharge port for said compressed fluid; a containment seat for two helical compression rotors placed side by side, said containment seat being interposed between said suction chamber and said discharge chamber, said containment seat comprising an inlet opening and an outlet opening for said fluid; two helical compression rotors placed side by side, each with a helical relief configured to engage with the helical relief of the other compression rotor to define one or more compression chambers for said fluid; an electric motor to actuate said helical compression rotors; lubrication means with a lubricating fluid for said helical compression rotors; filtration means of the compressed fluid for the separation of said lubricating fluid from the compressed fluid; an inverter connected to said electric motor; an electronic control unit configured to control and manage said inverter; a low-pressure sensor positioned at said suction port and connected to said electronic control unit; a high-pressure sensor positioned at said discharge port and connected to said electronic control unit; an adjustment spool configured for adjusting the width of said outlet opening; fluid actuating means configured to move said adjustment spool, said fluid actuating means being controlled by said electronic control unit; a current meter configured to measure the electric current absorbed by said electric motor during the compressor operation; said control unit being configured to: measure the outlet pressure (Hp) via said high-pressure sensor and measure the inlet pressure (Lp) via said low-pressure sensor; calculate the compression ratio (Pr) between the outlet pressure (Hp) and the inlet pressure (Lp); measure the electric current (Ivi) absorbed by said electric motor; command said fluid actuating means so as to move the adjustment spool to a balance wherein the electric current (Ivi) absorbed by said electric motor is as low as possible depending on the compression ratio (Pr); determine the optimal intrinsic volumetric ratio (Vi-opt), i.e., the intrinsic volumetric ratio corresponding to that position of the adjustment spool which determines the minimum absorption of the electric current (Ivi-min) absorbed by said electric motor; periodically or continuously measure the rotation speed (nr) of said electric motor and periodically or continuously measure said outlet pressure (Hp) and said inlet pressure (Lp) to periodically calculate said compression ratio (Pr); command said fluid actuating means so that they move said adjustment spool so as to automatically maintain said optimal intrinsic volumetric ratio (Vi-opt).

    2. The screw compressor according to claim 1, wherein said fluid actuating means comprise an oleodynamic actuator having a stem fixed to said adjustment spool.

    3. The screw compressor according to claim 1, wherein said oleodynamic actuator comprises: a piston attached to said stem; a first chamber configured to receive pressurised oil to push said piston in a first direction to actuate the adjustment spool; a second chamber within which counter-thrust means configured to push the piston in a second actuation direction of the adjustment spool, opposite to said first actuation direction, are present.

    4. The screw compressor according to claim 1, wherein said counter-thrust means consist of a coil spring.

    5. The screw compressor according to claim 1, wherein said fluid actuating means comprise: a pressurised oil loading line, configured for the passage of oil from a collection sump to the first chamber; a discharge line, configured for the passage of oil from the first chamber to said suction chamber; a first one-way solenoid valve for opening the loading line; a second one-way solenoid valve for opening the discharge line.

    6. The screw compressor according to claim 1, wherein said first one-way solenoid valve and said second one-way solenoid valve are commanded by said electronic control unit.

    7. The screw compressor according to claim 5, wherein said loading line and said discharge line connect at a bi-directional section which is directly connected to the first chamber of the oleodynamic actuator.

    8. An operation method of a screw compressor according to claim 1, comprising a first step of automatically searching for an optimal intrinsic volumetric ratio (Vi-opt) and a second step of automatically controlling and maintaining that value of the optimal intrinsic volumetric ratio (Vi-opt).

    9. A method according to claim 8, wherein said first step comprises the following operating steps: taking the electric motor to a preset minimum rotation speed (nr-min2); maintaining that minimum rotation speed (nr-min2) for a time period (T_nr-min2); initiating the search for the optimal intrinsic volumetric ratio (Vi-opt), where at the start-up the piston of the fluid actuating means is in a starting position with a minimum outlet opening; measuring the output pressure (Hp) and the input pressure (Lp), calculating (Pr) and storing (Pr); at the same time measuring the start-of-search electrical current (Ivi-start) absorbed by said electric motor and storing that value (Ivi-start); enabling for a time interval (T-openA) a first movement of the adjustment spool so that it moves from the starting position with minimum outlet opening to the maximum outlet opening position; during the first movement of the adjustment spool, measuring the value of the absorbed electric current (Ivi) and storing the minimum value of this absorbed electric current (Ivi-Low); measuring and storing the value (Ivi-Stop) of the electric current absorbed at the end of the movement of the adjustment spool; enabling for a time interval (T-openB) a second movement of the adjustment spool so that it moves from the position reached with the first movement to the starting position with minimum outlet opening; during said second movement of the adjustment spool, measuring the value of the absorbed electric current (Ivi-Opt); if (Ivi-Opt) is substantially equal to (Ivi-Low) unless a variation (Delta-I) occurs, i.e., if Ivi - low - Delta - I < Ivi - Opt < Ivi - Low + Delta - I then the search for (Vi-opt) is over; otherwise, we return to the initial step with said electric motor at the preset minimum rotation speed (nr-min2).

The method according to claim 8, wherein said second step comprises a second set of automatic control and maintenance operations of that (Vi-opt), said set of automatic control and maintenance operations of (Vi-opt) comprising the following operating steps: checking that the present rotation speed (nr) of the electric motor is stable; if the present rotation speed (nr) is not stable, then returning to the initial step of checking the present rotation speed (nr); if the present rotation speed (nr) is stable, then: checking whether the present compression ratio (Pr) is different from a previous value (Pr-prec) of said compression ratio; if the present compression ratio (Pr) is not different, then returning to the initial step of checking the present rotation speed (nr); if the present compression ratio (Pr) is different from a previous value (Pr-prec) then searching for a new value of the optimal intrinsic volumetric ratio (Vi-opt); measuring whether the condition direction A applies; if direction A does not apply, then saving the value of the present compression ratio (Pr) as the value of the previously stored compression ratio (Pr-prec) and moving the adjustment spool towards the maximum opening position of the outlet opening; if direction A applies, then saving the value of the present compression ratio (Pr) as the value of the previous compression ratio (Pr-prec), and moving the adjustment spool towards the minimum opening position of the outlet opening; checking whether the present absorbed electric current I is lower than a previous value of the absorbed electric current I-prec; if the present absorbed electric current (I) is lower than a previously stored value of the absorbed electric current (I-old), then reversing the direction of movement of the adjustment spool and saving/storing the present absorbed electric current value (I) as the previous absorbed electric current value (I-prec); checking whether the present rotation speed (nr) is stable; if the present rotation speed (nr) is not stable, then returning to the initial step of checking the present rotation speed (nr); if the present rotation speed (nr) is stable, then returning to the direction A condition; if the present absorbed electric current (I) is not lower than a previous value of the absorbed electric current (I-prec), then: checking whether the present absorbed electric current (I) is greater than a previous value of the absorbed electric current (I-prec); if the present absorbed electric current (I) is greater than a previous value of the absorbed electric current (I-prec), then saving the present absorbed electric current value (I) as the previous absorbed electric current value (I-prec); checking whether the present rotation speed (nr) is stable as above; if the present absorbed electric current (I) is not greater than a previous value of the absorbed electric current (I-prec), then saving the value of the present compression ratio (Pr) as the value of the previous compression ratio (Pr-prec), and returning to the beginning.

    DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS

    [0029] With reference to the above-mentioned figures, a screw compressor, particularly for refrigeration circuits, according to the invention is referred to as a whole by number 10.

    [0030] This screw compressor 10 comprises: [0031] a containment body 11, in turn comprising: [0032] a suction chamber 11a and a suction port 12 for a fluid to be compressed; [0033] a delivery chamber 11b and a discharge port 13 for said compressed fluid; [0034] a containment seat 14 configured to contain two helical compression rotors 15 and 16 placed side by side, this containment seat 14 being interposed between the suction chamber 11a and the delivery chamber 11b; that containment seat 14 comprising an inlet opening 21 and an outlet opening 22 for said fluid; [0035] two helical compression rotors 15 and 16 placed side by side, each with a helical relief configured to engage with the helical relief of the other compression rotor to define one or more compression chambers for the fluid; [0036] an electric motor 17 to actuate said helical compression rotors 15, 16; [0037] lubrication means 18 with a lubricating fluid for said helical compression rotors 15, 16; [0038] filtration means 19 of the compressed fluid for the separation of said lubricating fluid from the compressed fluid; [0039] an inverter 23 connected to said electric motor 17; [0040] an electronic control unit 24 configured to control and manage said inverter 23.

    [0153] The invention has therefore developed a screw compressor 10 and a method of operating such a screw compressor that allows to optimise the efficiency of the screw compressor 10 itself by operating the electronic part so that all electrical intakes are always in real time in order to minimise them.
