    DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

[0019] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 7 thereof, a new eyewear-holding baseball cap embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

[0020] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 7, the eyewear-holding baseball cap 10 generally comprises a cap portion 12, a brim 14, orifices 16 in said cap portion 12, and gripping structures 18. The cap portion 12 has a pair of the orifices 16, one positioned in each of the left and right sides of the cap portion 12. The orifices 16 are designed to permit insertion of left and right temple arms 72 of eyewear resting on the brim 14 into the interior of the cap portion 12. One of the gripping structures 18 is positioned at a perimeter edge of each of the orifices 16 to grip a temple arm 72 inserted through each of the orifices 16 to minimize or prevent eyewear resting on the brim 14 from falling off. The eyewear can be sunglasses 70, as shown in FIGS. 4 and 6, though other eyewear, such as eyeglasses, reading glasses, and safety glasses, could also be held in place by the gripping structures 18.

[0021] Each of the orifices 16 is designed as a vertical slit 16 oriented transverse to a lower edge 20 of the cap portion 12. Each of the slits 16 has a pair of the gripping structures 18 positioned one on each elongated side of the slit 16. Each of the pair of gripping structures 18 is in the form of an elongated strip positioned along the length of its corresponding elongated side. The pair of gripping structures 18 are disposed immediately adjacent or in contact with one another, such as in an overlapping and concealed manner, as best seen in FIG. 5. This close positioning promotes greater gripping of the temple arms 72, as shown in FIG. 6. It should be noted that the design and positioning of the gripping structures 18 shown in FIGS. 5 and 6 is one exemplary embodiment and alternative embodiments are within the scope of the disclosure, such as an embodiment in which the gripping structures 18 are positioned on or coating the edges of the slit 16 and facing one another, much like a pair of lips.

[0022] Each of the gripping structures 18 is made of rubber or similar material that produces friction to grip the temple arms 72, such as a soft plastic or elastomer. Each of the slits 16 is positioned approximately 1.0 to 1.5 inches from the lower edge of the cap portion 12 and is approximately 1.0 to 1.5 inches long. This positioning allows most any eyewear to be easily inserted into the slits 16, regardless of the height of the frame.

[0023] With respect to the above description then, it is to be realized that the optimum dimensional relationships for the parts of an embodiment enabled by the disclosure, to include variations in size, materials, shape, form, function and manner of operation, assembly and use, are deemed readily apparent and obvious to one skilled in the art, and all equivalent relationships to those illustrated in the drawings and described in the specification are intended to be encompassed by an embodiment of the disclosure.

[0024] Therefore, the foregoing is considered as illustrative only of the principles of the disclosure. Further, since numerous modifications and changes will readily occur to those skilled in the art, it is not desired to limit the disclosure to the exact construction and operation shown and described, and accordingly, all suitable modifications and equivalents may be resorted to, falling within the scope of the disclosure. In this patent document, the word comprising is used in its non-limiting sense to mean that items following the word are included, but items not specifically mentioned are not excluded. A reference to an element by the indefinite article a does not exclude the possibility that more than one of the element is present, unless the context clearly requires that there be only one of the elements.
