Abstract
The shotgun hollow buttstock adapter is designed to fit within the rear portion of a hollow shotgun buttstock, enabling users to mechanically fasten recoil pads to the buttstock. This adapter addresses the need for a simple, efficient, and secure method of attaching recoil pads to shotguns with hollow stocks, thereby enhancing recoil management and user comfort.
Claims
1. An adapter for use with a firearm hollow stock to affix accessories, the adapter comprising: a plate, the plate having an outer edge, front face, and a back face; a chamfer along an entire junction between the back face and the outer edge, creating a chamfered edge; the plate held within the firearm hollow stock by a lip of the firearm hollow stock engaged with the outer edge of the plate; two or more holes through the plate; the two or more holes configured to affix the accessories to a rear of the firearm hollow stock; and wherein the chamfered edge is configured for insertion of the plate into the firearm hollow stock and then to be rotated into place within the firearm hollow stock with less deformation of the firearm hollow stock than if the plate lacked the chamfer; wherein the plate is solid except for the two or more holes.
2. The adapter of claim 1, wherein: the plate has a tapered shape, with a top and bottom that are narrower than a center; the top wider than the bottom; and the tapered shape is contoured to match an internal profile of the firearm hollow stock.
3. The adapter of claim 1, further comprising: a recoil pad; the recoil pad affixed to the plate using fasteners that thread into the two or more holes through the plate; and the recoil pad formed from a shock-absorbing compressible material.
4. The adapter of claim 1, further comprising: two or more screw holes configured to receive fasteners for attaching a recoil pad or other accessory to the adapter.
5. The adapter of claim 4, further comprising: additional holes configured to allow a mechanism of an active recoil system to be affixed to and interact with the adapter.
6. An adapter for attaching accessories to a hollow stock of a firearm, comprising: an adapter body configured to be inserted into a hollow portion of the hollow stock of the firearm, the adapter body having a front face, a back face, and an outer edge delineated as being between the front face and the back face; the adapter body having a tapered profile that matches an internal wall shape of the hollow portion of the hollow stock; and wherein the outer edge of the adapter body is configured to be wedged behind a lip of the hollow stock after installation into the hollow portion of the hollow stock and is therefore held within the hollow portion of the hollow stock by the lip; wherein the outer edge of the adapter is configured to rest behind the lip at a butt end of the hollow stock when the adapter body is in a final position of the installation, thereby securing the adapter within the hollow portion of the hollow stock.
7. The adapter of claim 6, further comprising: a chamfered edge disposed along an entire perimeter of the back face of the adapter body.
8. The adapter of claim 6, wherein: the adapter is configured to be inserted into the hollow stock at a 90 angle relative to the final position and then rotated into the final position.
9. The adapter of claim 6, wherein: the adapter is held in the final position by the lip of the hollow stock against the outer edge of the adapter.
10. The adapter of claim 6, further comprising: a front face configured to rest against the lip within the hollow stock when the adapter is in the final position.
11. The adapter of claim 10, wherein: the front face is manufactured without a chamfer.
12. The adapter of claim 6, further comprising: two or more screw holes configured to receive fasteners for attaching a recoil pad or other accessory to the adapter.
13. The adapter of claim 6, wherein: the adapter is configured to be removed from the hollow stock by rotating the adapter to a position approximately 90 relative to a face of the hollow stock and withdrawing the adapter.
14. The adapter of claim 6, further comprising: additional holes in the adapter body configured to allow a mechanism of an active recoil system to be affixed to and interact with the adapter.
15. The adapter of claim 6, further comprising: a recoil pad configured to be attached to the adapter, the recoil pad comprising a resilient, compressible material for absorbing and dissipating energy generated by a shotgun during discharge.
16. The adapter of claim 15, wherein the recoil pad is made from a material selected from a group consisting of rubber, polyurethane, and gel.
17. An adapter for attaching accessories to a hollow shotgun buttstock, comprising: a body having a tapered shape configured to match an internal profile of a rear portion of the hollow shotgun buttstock; a chamfered edge disposed along at least a portion of a perimeter of a back face of the body, wherein the chamfered edge is configured to reduce distortion of the hollow shotgun buttstock during rotation of the adapter into a final position within the hollow shotgun buttstock, and wherein the adapter is configured to be inserted into the hollow shotgun buttstock at a 90 angle relative to the final position and then rotated into the final position; an outer edge configured to be compressed by the hollow shotgun buttstock to hold the adapter in the final position; a front face configured to rest against a lip within the hollow shotgun buttstock when the adapter is in the final position, wherein the front face is manufactured without a chamfer; two or more screw holes configured to receive fasteners for attaching a recoil pad or other accessory to the adapter; wherein the adapter is configured to be removed from the hollow shotgun buttstock by rotating the adapter to a position approximately 90 relative to a face of the hollow shotgun buttstock and withdrawing the adapter.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0030] Reference will now be made in detail to the presently preferred embodiments of the invention, examples of which are illustrated in the accompanying drawings. Throughout the following detailed description, the same reference numerals refer to the same elements in all figures. Referring to
[0031] The shotgun 200 is shown with grip 204 and stock 202 with butt 206.
[0032] Referring to
[0033] The shotgun 200 is again shown with stock 202, with butt 206 having butt face 208. Within the hollow stock 202 is a cavity 220.
[0034] Within the end of the cavity, near the butt face 208, is a lip 222 adjacent to ribs 224, each rib 224 with a rib face 226.
[0035] Inside of the lip 222 is a support face 228 against which the adapter plate 110 will rest when installed (see
[0036] Referring to
[0037] The adapter plate 110 includes a top 112 and bottom 114, left 116 and right 118 and edge 124.
[0038] The front face 120 faces toward the user after installation (see
[0039] The adapter plate 110 includes a tapered shape to match the profile of the support faces 228 of the ribs 224 within the cavity 220 of the stock 202 (see
[0040] Also shown is the central hole 132 and mounting holes 134, which are optionally threaded.
[0041] The preferred dimensions of the adapter plate are 4.475 inches tall, 1.292 inches wide, and 0.25 inches thick.
[0042] The central hole 132 is preferably 0.805 inches in diameter. The mounting holes 134 are preferably drilled and threaded for #8-32 UNC screws.
[0043] Referring to
