DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0019] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to
[0020] As best illustrated in
[0021] A dish rack 36 is positionable in the cabinet 12 and is configured to hold dishes 116. The dish rack 36 may have a wireframe structure or any suitable shape for holding dishes 116. The dish rack 36 is movable through the interior volume 14 via a drive system mounted in the cabinet 12 so that the dishes 116 may be moved through each of the loading space 16, the washing space 18, the drying space 20, and the storage space 22.
[0022] The drive system comprises a loading lift 38 which moves the dish rack 36 between the loading space 16 and the washing space 18, a conveyor device 70 which moves the dish rack 36 between the washing space 18 and the drying space 20, and a storage lift 54 which moves the dish rack 36 between the drying space 20 and the storage space 22. In other embodiments the drive system may have other suitable mechanisms for moving the dish rack 36 throughout the interior volume 14 of the cabinet 12, such as a robotic arm, a single carriage mounted to a track that travels through each of the spaces 16, 18, 20, 22, a hydraulic lift, or the like.
[0023] The loading lift 38 includes a loading carriage 40 mounted in the cabinet 12 which is movable between the loading space 16 and the washing space 18. A loading rack connector 42 is mounted to the loading carriage 40 and is operable to connect the dish rack 36 to the loading carriage 40. The loading rack connector 42 comprises a pair of loading hooks 44 and a pair of loading hook actuators 46. The loading hook actuators 46 are operable to interlock the loading hooks 44 with a rim of the dish rack 36, thereby supporting the dish rack 36. A loading rail 48 is mounted in the cabinet 12 and extends between and into the loading space 16 and the washing space 18. A loading motor 50 operates loading wheels 52 that are rotatable mounted to the loading carriage 40 and movably mounted to the loading rail 48. The loading wheels 52 may secure the loading carriage 40 at various heights with respect to the loading rail 48 by clamping onto the loading rail 48. In other embodiments, the loading wheels 52 may have teeth which mesh with teeth of the loading rail 48.
[0024] The storage lift 54 is substantially similar in structure to the loading lift 38. The storage lift 54 includes a storage carriage 56 mounted in the cabinet 12 which is movable between the storage space 22 and the washing space 18. A storage rack connector 58 is mounted to the storage carriage 56 and is operable to connect the dish rack 36 to the storage carriage 56. The storage rack connector 58 comprises a pair of storage hooks 60 and a pair of storage hook actuators 62. The storage hook actuators 62 are operable to interlock the storage hooks 60 with a rim of the dish rack 36, thereby supporting the dish rack 36. A storage rail 64 is mounted in the cabinet 12 and extends between and into the storage space 22 and the washing space 18. A storage motor 66 operates storage wheels 68 that are rotatable mounted to the storage carriage 56 and movably mounted to the storage rail 64. The storage wheels 68 may secure the storage carriage 56 at various heights with respect to the storage rail 64 by clamping onto the storage rail 64. In other embodiments, the storage wheels 68 may have teeth which mesh with teeth of the storage rail 64.
[0025] The conveyor device 70 comprises a belt 72 for supporting the dish rack 36 and a conveyor motor 74 operably coupled to the belt 72. The conveyor device 70 extends between and into the washing space 18 and the drying space 20.
[0026] A washing assembly is included in the washing space 18 of the interior volume 14 of the cabinet 12 to wash the dishes 116. The washing assembly comprises a water supply line 76, a water supply pump 78, a water return line 80, and a water return pump 82. The water supply pump 78 is in fluid communication with the water supply line 76 and is operable to urge fluid from a water source via the water supply line 76 through ports 32 in the cabinet 12 into the washing space 18 of the interior volume 14 of the cabinet 12. Drains 34 at a bottom of the interior volume 14 are in fluid communication with the interior volume 14 and lead to the water return line 80. The water return pump 82 is operable to urge fluid from the interior volume 14 away from the cabinet 12. The water return line 80 may be attached to a home plumbing system or other suitable drainage structure. A detergent door 84 is positioned on a front of the cabinet 12 which contains a cavity for holding detergent 118. Various other detergent holding means may be used throughout the interior volume 14 of the cabinet 12. In some embodiments, a tank may be configured to hold a quantity of detergent 118 which is urged into the washing space 18 of the interior volume 14 via a detergent pump or other suitable dispensing mechanism.
[0027] A horizontal partition 86 and a vertical partition are mounted in the cabinet 12 and may be positioned to enclose the dish rack 36 in the washing space 18 and moved away from such positions to allow movement of the dish rack 36 into or out of the washing space 18. The horizontal partition 86 is movable between a first position and a second position. The first position of the horizontal partition 86 is between the loading space 16 and the washing space 18, and the second position of the horizontal partition 86 is between the storage space 22 and the drying space 20. The horizontal partition 86 moves along a pair of horizontal rails 92 that are positioned opposite each other across the interior volume 14. A horizontal partition drive 94 including a motor and wheels is operable to move the horizontal partition 86 on the horizontal rails 92 between the first and second positions, of the horizontal partition 86.
[0028] The vertical partition 96 is movable between a first position and a second position. The first position of the vertical partition 96 is between the loading space 16 and the washing space 18, and the second position of the vertical partition 96 is between the storage space 22 and the drying space 20. The vertical partition 96 moves along a pair of vertical rails 102 that are positioned opposite each other across the interior volume 14. A vertical partition drive 104 including a motor and wheels is operable to move the vertical partition 96 on the vertical rails 102 between the first and second positions, of the vertical partition 96.
[0029] A pair of fans 106 is mounted in the cabinet 12 adjacent to the drying space 20. The fans 106 are positioned and configured to circulate air in the drying space 20 when activated.
[0030] A processor 108 is provided which is in operative communication with the drive system, the washing assembly, the horizontal partition drive 94 and the vertical partition drive 104. The processor 108 may have instructions for washing dishes 116 in one or more cycle types. A control interface 110 is mounted to an exterior of the cabinet 12 to direct the processor 108 to operate to move, wash, and dry the dishes 116 in the dish rack 36. A power supply 112 is electrically coupled to the processor 108. The power supply 112 comprises a battery but may comprise a capacitor or other suitable energy storage means. A power cord 114 is electrically coupled to the power supply 112 and is configured to electrically couple to an external power source. In other embodiments, the power cord 114 may be directly connected to the processor 108.
[0031] In use, dishes 116 may be placed in the dish rack 36, washed by the dish cleaning system 10 as directed by the processor 108, and stored. Generally, the dishes 116 are placed in the dish rack 36 when the dish rack 36 is held by the loading lift 38 in the loading space 16. The processor 108 is directed by the control interface 110 or other suitable means to move the dish rack 36 with the dishes 116 into the washing space 18 via the loading lift 38. The processor 108 directs the horizontal and vertical partition 96s to move in order to either make way for the dish rack 36 or enclose the dish rack 36 in the washing space 18. After the processor 108 causes the washing assembly to wash the dishes 116, the conveyor device 70 is activated by the processor 108 to move the dish rack 36 to the drying space 20. The dish rack 36 is allowed to remain in the drying space 20 for a period of time to dry the dishes 116, and the processor 108 activates the fans 106 to accelerate drying. Finally, the dish rack 36 is brought up to the storage space 22 via the storage lift 54. Dishes 116 may be kept in the storage space 22 until needed.
