Abstract
A self-defense coat device is disclosed which comprises a coat component that is configured in the shape of a traditional coat or jacket. With the push of a button, the user may expand or retract the quills from the coat component. Further, the retractable quills are comprised of sharp, pointed ends that injure and ward off an assailant to keep the user safe. Thus, the coat component is especially useful for vulnerable people. The retractable quills can also be retracted and hidden to allow the coat component to simply function as a traditional jacket. Further, the coat component comprises multiple sizes and colors to fit the user's preference. The fabric of the coat component is very thick in width in order to successfully hide the quills when retracted.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
[0028] The innovation is now described with reference to the drawings, wherein like reference numerals are used to refer to like elements throughout. In the following description, for purposes of explanation, numerous specific details are set forth in order to provide a thorough understanding thereof. It may be evident, however, that the innovation can be practiced without these specific details. In other instances, well-known structures and devices are shown in block diagram form in order to facilitate a description thereof. Various embodiments are discussed hereinafter. It should be noted that the figures are described only to facilitate the description of the embodiments. They are not intended as an exhaustive description of the invention and do not limit the scope of the invention. Additionally, an illustrated embodiment need not have all the aspects or advantages shown. Thus, in other embodiments, any of the features described herein from different embodiments may be combined.
[0029] As noted above, there is a long felt need in the art for a self-defense coat device that provides users with a coat or jacket featuring embedded metal quills that cause injury to an assailant during an assault or abduction. There is also a long felt need in the art for a self-defense coat device that allows users to press a button on the garment to expand the quills if they are put in danger. Further, there is a long felt need in the art for a self-defense coat device that functions as a standard coat or jacket with the quills retracted, offering comfort and warmth while outdoors. Moreover, there is a long felt need in the art for a self-defense coat device that helps prevent serious injury and kidnapping, especially for vulnerable people like women and children walking alone. Further, there is a long felt need in the art for a self-defense coat device that provides a safe and convenient way to defend yourself against an assailant. Finally, there is a long felt need in the art for a self-defense coat device that includes retractable quills which can be presented or hidden with ease.
[0030] The present invention, in one exemplary embodiment, is a novel self-defense coat device. The self-defense coat device comprises a coat component that is configured in the shape of a traditional coat or jacket. The present invention also includes a novel method of protecting a user from danger via a coat with retractable quills. The method includes the steps of providing a self-defense coat device comprising a coat component with retractable quills. The method also comprises placing the user's arms through the arm sleeves of the coat component. Further, the method comprises pushing the button on the arm sleeve to trigger the extension of the retractable quills. The method also comprises walking without fear of danger. Finally, the method comprises pushing the button again to retract and store the retractable quills.
[0031] Referring initially to the drawings,
[0032] Generally, the self-defense coat device 100 allows users 106 to feel safe and protected without the use of a different self-defense tool. Thus, users 106 do not need to carry additional self-defense objects to protect themselves, they can merely wear the coat device 100. Further, the retractable quills 104 allow a user 106 to not have to carry anything else to protect themselves while in dangerous areas. Accordingly, users 106 can retract or extend the retractable quills 104 solely via a button 108, saving users 106 significant time and energy and preventing uncomfortableness.
[0033] Further, the self-defense coat device 100 comprises a coat component 102 that is configured in the shape of a traditional coat or jacket with a main body 110 and two arm sleeves 112. The coat component 102 comprises an exterior surface 114, an interior surface 116, and an inner lining 118 between the two. However, the coat component 102 can be any suitable shape and size as is known in the art, as long as the coat component 102 is sized and shaped to be worn by the user 106.
[0034] Additionally, the coat component 102 comprises retractable quills 104 which are stored within the inner lining 118. Thus, the coat component 102 must be comprised of a relatively thick material 120 in order to successfully conceal the retractable quills 104. The retractable quills 104 can either fold in on themselves to retract into the coat component 102 or they can simply pull back and be hidden within the coat component 102. When desired by the user 102, these retractable quills 104 can extend out from the inner lining 118 so that they push through the exterior surface 114 of the coat component 102.
[0035] Generally, the retractable quills 104 are utilized when the user 106 feels they are in danger. The retractable quills 104 are secured into the inner lining 118 of the coat component 102 via any suitable securing means 122 as is known in the art, such as adhesives, mechanical fasteners, etc. Further, the retractable quills 104 can be any suitable sharp object 124 as is known in the art, as long as the retractable quills 104 allow a user 106 to feel safe and secure when wearing the device 100. Further, the length and diameter of the retractable quills 104 may vary widely, as it is important only that it be reasonably comfortable to fit within the inner lining 118 of the coat component 102 and allow extension from the coat component 102 with ease.
[0036] As shown in
[0037] Further, the two push button mechanisms 200 are triggered by two relatively small, circular buttons 108, 109 which are integrated into the exterior surface 114 of the coat component 102. The two buttons 108, 109 are integrated near the end of one of the two arm sleeves 112 of the coat component 102. When pressed by the user 102, one button 108 triggers the push button mechanism 200 and the linear actuator 202 is activated to allow the retractable quills 104 to extend from the inner lining 118. Accordingly, when it is desired for the retractable quills 104 to be retracted, the second button 109 can be pressed again to allow for the linear actuator 202 to once again retract the retractable quills 104 within the inner lining 118 of the coat component 102 for storage.
[0038] As shown in
[0039] In yet another embodiment, the self-defense coat device 100 comprises a plurality of indicia 304. The coat component 102 of the device 100 may include advertising, a trademark, or other letters, designs, or characters, printed, painted, stamped, or integrated into the coat component 102, or any other indicia 304 as is known in the art. Specifically, any suitable indicia 304 as is known in the art can be included, such as but not limited to, patterns, logos, emblems, images, symbols, designs, letters, words, characters, animals, advertisements, brands, etc., that may or may not be coat, self-defense, or brand related.
