Abstract
A resealable storage bag features a dual-rib zipper profile in which two bulb-tipped male ribs on one wall lock into matching rounded grooves on the opposite wall, creating a robust airtight seal. An exterior slider with ergonomic pinch zones and a stepped, multi-slot channel guides the ribs into the grooves, allowing the seal to be achieved in a single pass even when the closure elements use softer resin blends. A hinged flap anchored to one wall carries at least part of the zipper profile and pivots between parallel and perpendicular positions. When the bag is stressed from below, the flap rotates to an orthogonal attitude that resists separation yet remains easy to open from above. A one-way valve enables vacuum evacuation for compact storage, while optimized divider lengths, ramp radii and slot clearances within the slider further enhance sealing reliability.

[0030] In a general embodiment, a resealable storage bag is disclosed. The bag has opposing first and second walls that together define an opening end at an upper side and a sealed end, each wall presenting an internal side and an external side. A valve is provided on one of the walls. A zipper profile is carried on the internal sides and includes a first closure mechanism formed by parallel male elements being a first rib and a second rib, each terminating in a bulbous tip, and a second closure mechanism formed by parallel female elements being a first groove and a second groove, each defining a rounded groove sized to receive a corresponding bulbous tip. The male and female elements are spaced from the opening end so the first groove is positioned to engage the first rib and the second groove to engage the second rib. Illustrated Embodiments
[0049] Now turning to the drawings,
[0050]
[0051]
[0052] The first closure mechanism (201) is shown as comprising a pair of male elements (203) disposed on the first internal side (102) and the second closure mechanism (207) is shown as comprising a pair of female elements (209) disposed on the second internal side (105). Other configurations of the zipper profile can also be utilized as can be appreciated by one having skill in the art. For example, the pair of female elements may be disposed on the first internal side and the pair of male elements are disposed on the second internal side. In addition to or alternatively, the first closure mechanism may comprise one male element and one female clement, and the second closure mechanism may comprise a corresponding female element and male element. In other embodiments, the first and second closure mechanisms may comprise three or more rows of closure elements.
[0053]
[0054] The second closure mechanism (207) is coupled to a second internal side (105) of the second wall (104) wherein the second closure mechanism is in a fixed state relative to the second wall. The coupling of the second closure mechanism can be direct or indirect. Direct coupling includes the second closure mechanism having a second pair of closure elements (208) attached to the surface of the second internal side. Indirect coupling includes the second pair of closure elements coupled to an intermediary thermoplastic layer and the intermediary thermoplastic layer is coupled to the surface of the second internal side.
[0055] The hinged flap (213) increases strength of the zipper profile (200) when force is applied below the first and second closure mechanisms (201; 207). When the first wall (101) and the second wall (104) are pulled apart below the sealed zipper profile, the hinged flap causes the first closure mechanism to rotate into a substantially orthogonal position with at least one of the first and second walls. In some embodiments, the second closure mechanism may similarly rotate into a substantially orthogonal position due to the second closure mechanism's engagement with the first closure mechanism. The orthogonal configuration requires substantially more force to break the zipper profile seal compared to a conventional parallel configuration with the first and second walls due to direction of the zipper profile coupling no longer being in alignment with the outward force being applied below the zipper profile. This increased resistance created by the hinged flap is not present when the first and second walls are separated above the zipper profile due to the hinged flap being unable to rotate. This allows case of opening the rescalable storage bag (100) above the zipper profile while resisting expansion of the bag walls below the zipper profile. Scenarios can include when the rescalable storage bag is overfilled and the contents within the rescalable storage bag press against the first and second bag walls below the zipper profile.
[0056]
[0057] The slider channel (320) comprises a tapered opening (321) at the bottom surface (303) of the slider body (301) to assist a user with coupling the zipper slider (200) onto the rescalable storage bag (
[0058] The first guide slot (328) is flanked by a first divider (323) and a second divider (331). The first divider is formed by a first plateau (326) disposed on either side of the first divider. The first divider further comprises a first top ramp (325) slanting downward from the first plateau to a first slot side (329) of the first guide slot. The second divider is formed by a second plateau (335) disposed on either side of the second divider. The second divider further comprises a second bottom ramp (333) and a second top ramp (334) disposed on opposite ends of each second plateau. The second bottom ramp slants downward from the second plateau to the first slot side. The second top ramp slants downward from the second plateau to a second slot side (338) of the second guide slot (337). Each of the first and second slot sides are substantially linear compared to the top and bottom ramps of the first and second dividers.
[0059] The second guide slot (337) is flanked by the second divider (331) and a third divider (340). The third divider is formed by a third plateau (343) disposed on either side of the third divider. The third divider further comprises a third bottom ramp (342) slanting downwards from each third plateau towards the second slot side (338) of the second guide.
[0060] The zipper slider (300) is optimized to seal a zipper profile having a blended resin that creates a softer and more conforming relationship between male and female elements. Particular dimensions and radius curvature of the zipper slider improves the zipper slider's ability to seal the zipper profile with a single pass of the zipper slider. The preferable dimensions disclosed herein assists the male elements having a bulbous tip to fill in and conform with a rounded groove of the female elements. In one embodiment, the first divider (323) comprises a first divider length (324) between 0.025 and 0.172. The second divider (331) comprises a second divider length (332) between 0.144 and 0.186. The third divider (340) comprises a third divider length (341) between 0.080 and 0.102. Each first slot side (329) comprises a first slot length (330) between 0.074 and 0.136 and forms a gap around 0.064, Each second slot side (338) comprises a second slot length (339) between 0.085 and 0.170 and forms a gap around 0.066. The first top ramp (325) comprises a curvature radius between 0.010 and 0.100. The second bottom ramp (333) comprises a curvature radius between 0.040 and 0.080. The second top ramp (334) comprises a curvature radius between 0.001 and 0.041. The third bottom ramp (342) comprises a curvature radius between 0.001 and 0.041.
