Abstract
A grinding wheel sharpening device which is mountable a rotary power source. Each of the several configuration of the grinding wheel sharpening devices comprises a grinding wheel body having a drive shaft, the drive shaft configured to be mounted to a rotary power source and adapted to be powered and driven by the rotary power source, at least one abrasive sharpening surface, and a blade rest within which the grinding wheel is disposed during use, the blade rest enabling precision shaping and/or sharpening of a blade.
Claims
1. A grinding wheel sharpening device mountable to a rotary power source, comprising a grinding wheel body having a drive shaft associated therewith, wherein a. said grinding wheel body comprises a peripheral outer edge, an outer face, a rear face, and at least one grinding edge provided with an abrasive material, said grinding wheel body adapted to be disposed within a blade rest, b. said drive shaft extending outwardly from said rear face and comprising a proximal end and a distal end, said proximal end configured to be mounted to a rotary power source to power and drive said grinding wheel sharpening device, and wherein said rotary power source is selected from group including a motor, a transmission, a pulley system, a rotary power tool, a power drill, and a die grinder.

The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 1, wherein said grinding wheel body is in the form of a single point grinding wheel and wherein said peripheral outer edge is configured with a V shape sharpening edge coated with an abrasive material to enable the grinding of individual teeth and to enable the custom shaping of saw blade teeth.

The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 2, which is configured to create custom tooth geometry, sharpen individual teeth, sharpening forward set directional teeth, sharpening teeth having irregular geometry, sharpen cutting tools including drill bits, chisels, knife blades, and circular saws.
4. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 2, wherein said drive shaft is introduced into and extends through an opening centrally disposed within said grinding wheel body.

The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 1, wherein said grinding wheel body is a conical-shaped body, said outer face comprising a plurality of shaped grooves of varying diameters, including a shaped groove having the largest of varying diameters and disposed proximal to said rear face, a shaped groove having the smallest of varying diameters and disposed distal to said rear face, the diameters of the remaining varying dimeters descending in diameter from said shaped groove having the largest diameter to said shaped groove having the smallest diameter, wherein said plurality of shaped grooves are engineered to provide a plurality of grinding edges that correspond to existing teeth patterns on oscillating multi-tool (OMT) blades, each of said grinding edges being coated with an abrasive material.
6. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 5, wherein said conical-shaped grinding wheel body and said drive shaft is a one-piece body manufactured from a single piece of metal or metal compound.

The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 5, wherein said grinding wheel body and said drive shaft may be removably associated with the single point grinding wheel body, such as by introducing and extending the drive shaft through an opening centrally disposed within the grinding wheel body.
8. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 5, wherein the conical shaped configuration of said grinding wheel body allows an oscillating blade to be shaped and sharpened without interfering with component parts supporting the grinding wheel body.

The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 1, wherein said grinding wheel body is a mini grinding wheel body having a circular shape and thin profile, said mini grinding wheel body having a peripheral outer edge for sharpening saw blades, hole saws, and reciprocating saw blades, an outer face having a plurality of spaced-apart V-shaped grinding edges configured to sharpen an oscillating multi-tool blade (OMT) along the entire length of said outer face.
10. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 9, wherein said drive shaft is introduced into and extends through an opening centrally disposed within said grinding wheel body.
11. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 9, wherein said peripheral outer edge is V-shaped and provided with an electroplated abrasive for sharpening individual OMT teeth.
12. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 9, wherein said peripheral outer edge is flat, for sharpening circular saws, hole saws, and reciprocating saws.

The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 1, wherein said grinding wheel body is a large grinding wheel body having a circular shape, said large grinding wheel body having a peripheral outer edge for sharpening saw blades, hole saws, and reciprocating saw blades, an outer face having a plurality of spaced-apart V-shaped grinding edges configured to sharpen an oscillating multi-tool blade (OMT) along said outer face, and a rear face having an abrasive material applied thereto.
14. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 13, wherein said drive shaft is introduced into and extends through an opening centrally disposed within grinding wheel body.
15. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 13, wherein said peripheral outer edge is V-shaped and provided with an electroplated abrasive for sharpening individual OMT teeth.
16. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 13, wherein said peripheral outer edge is flat, for sharpening circular saws, hole saws, and reciprocating saws.
17. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 13, wherein said adhesive material is an adhesive-backed removable abrasive.
18. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 13, wherein said adhesive material is an electroplated permanent abrasive.
19. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 13, wherein said blade rest comprising a vacuum hose block having a vacuum hose receiving opening, at least one blade support table, and a bearing assembly.
20. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 13, wherein said blade rest further comprises at least one angle guide.
21. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 20, wherein said at least one angle guide is a fixed angle guide.
22. The grinding wheel sharpening device in accordance with claim 20, wherein said at least one angle guide is an adjustable angle guide.

[0041] The present subject matter is directed to grinding wheel sharpening devices mountable to a rotary power source, and powered and driven by the rotary power source. The rotary power source may be a motor, transmission, pulley system, or a rotary power tool, such as a power drill or die grinder. In one embodiment, the rotary power source may be a rotary power drill. More particularly, the present subject matter is directed to several configurations of sharpening devices comprising a grinding wheel body having a drive shaft associated therewith, the inventive grinding wheel sharpening devices are adapted for sharpening saw teeth saw blades, such as oscillating saw blades, chisels, blades, and the like.
[0042] The grinding wheel body is provided with one or more sharpening surfaces provide with an abrasive material for shaping and sharpening the desired saw teeth, blades, chisels, and the like. Grinding edges can be coated with an abrasive such as an electroplated cubic boron nitride (CBN) abrasive for sharpening steel blades or an electroplated diamond abrasive for sharpening carbide blades. In some embodiments, the rear surface of the grinding wheel body may be coated with an electroplated CBN or diamond abrasive, or with other multiple abrasive grits and abrasive coatings.
