DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
(11) The systems and methods herein are directed to sporting equipment for paddle-based sports and items with a perforated pattern. More particularly, an apparatus can be attached and removable (i.e., a permanent connection is not achieved) to a handle of a pickleball paddle, table tennis, or the like; and retrieval of items with perforation, such as a pickleball, shuttlecock, and wiffle ball, via a hook that curves like a fish hook or scythe.
(12) In the systems and methods herein, the apparatus comprises a base operatively connected to a hook, wherein: the base has a first half (1A, 1B, 1C, or 1D) and a second half (2A, 2B, 2C, or 2D); and the hook comprises a L-shaped stem (3A, 3B, 3C, or 3D) operatively connected to a curved body (4A, 4B, 4C, or 4D). The curved body can be operatively connected to an end-point (5A, 5B, 5C, or 5D). The L-shaped stem (3A, 3B, 3C, or 3D) operatively connected to the curved body (4A, 4B, 4C, or 4D) operatively connected to the end-point (5A, 5B, 5C, or 5D) can each be composed of plastic, metal, rubber, cork, or any other material. More particularly, the L-shaped stem (3A, 3B, 3C, or 3D), the curved body (4A, 4B, 4C, or 4D), and the end-point (5A, 5B, 5C, or 5D) can operatively connect to each other, such that the curved body (4A, 4B, 4C, or 4D) is in between the L-shaped stem (3A, 3B, 3C, or 3D) and the end-point (5A, 5B, 5C, or 5D).
(13) In the system and methods herein, the L-shaped stem has a vertical section (v) perpendicular to the horizontal section (h). The vertical section (v) can: (i) partially fit into the first half of the base and partially extends from the first half the base, or (ii) be appended to the first half of the space via a fastener mechanism, adhesive mechanism, or piercing mechanism (e.g., a sharp section of the vertical section (v) lodged into the first half of the base). The horizontal section can operatively connect to the curved body operatively connected to the end-point (5A, 5B, 5C, or 5D), wherein the end-point is rounded (see
(14) In the system and methods herein, the horizontal section (h) of the stem (3A, 3B, 3C, or 3D), the curved body (4A, 4B, 4C, or 4D); and the end-point (5A, 5B, 5C, or 5D) make a hook akin to a fish hook or scythe (see
(15) In the systems and methods herein, more particularly, the apparatus comprises the base (1A and 2A; 1B and 2B; 3A and 3B; or 4A and 4B) operatively connected to the stem (3A, 3B, 3C, or 3D) operatively connected to the curved body (4A, 4B, 4C, or 4D); and the end-point (5A, 5B, 5C, or 5D). The apparatus is either contacting or attaching to the handle of, for example, a paddle (see
(16) In the system and methods herein, there is no suctioning or telescoping mechanism emanating from the face of the paddle or handle of the paddle to retrieve, for example, a pickleball. The removability of the apparatus and the canister (10) from the handle of the paddle does not impact the handle or grip of the paddle. The apparatus can be facilely appended to the handle of the paddle and the user can hold the paddle from the face or paddle, without having to exert too much energy by bending knees or engaging in strenuous activity. Further, the apparatus appended handle can be facilely removed by merely applying tension against the apparatus to actuate detachment of the apparatus from the handle. In this example, the base (1A and 2A) is spherical which is inches () in diameter; the height of the vertical section (v) of the stem (3A) is ; the horizontal section (h) of the stem (3A) is ; the curved body (4A) is ; the end-point (5A), which is rounded, has a length of , where i is the angle between the curved body (4A) and end-point (5A), wherein i is 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, or 55 degrees. In a preferred embodiment, i=45 degrees, where the hook of the apparatus has a scythe shape for retrieval of a pickleball, while minimizing bending of the user of the apparatus. For example, the scythe shape of the hook of the apparatus attached or appended to the handle of the paddle can fit into a perforation of the pickleball to make a secured connection. Said secured connection between the hook of the apparatus and the pickleball is not permanent, while being sufficiently stable, such that a lifting motion of the handle does not disturb said secured connection.
(17) In the systems and methods herein, the base, which has a first half and a second half, as denoted by the dotted line, can be a sphere (1A and 2A), a cube (1B and 2B), a rectangular prism (1C and 2C), or a cylinder (1C and 2D). The vertical portion of the stem (3A, 3B, 3C, and 3D) can: (i) pierce through, for example, the rubber or cork of the base to make a secure fit, such that the base, when inverted and attached to the handle, does not disassemble when the pickle ball is retrieved; or (ii) attach onto the surface of the base with an adhesive or fastener mechanism, such that the base, when inverted and attached to the handle, does not disassemble when the pickle ball is retrieved.
