    Abstract

    An electronic punching bag device for enhancing training for a boxer includes a punching bag which includes a plurality of chains for suspending the punching bag from the suspension for a boxer to deliver punches to the punching bag. A display screen is wrapped around the punching bag to display imagery that is visible to the boxer. A communication unit is integrated into the punching bag and the communication unit receives data from a personal electronic device comprising photographic imagery or video imagery which is displayed on the display screen. A plurality of pressure sensors is each integrated into the punching bag to sense the pressure of the punches delivered by the boxer.

    Claims

    1. An electronic punching bag device for displaying an image of a boxing opponent and recording the intensity of punches delivered, said device comprising: a punching bag including a plurality of chains each being attached to and extending upwardly from said punching bag thereby enabling each of said plurality of chains to be attached to a suspension for suspending said punching bag from said suspension wherein said punching bag is configured to be positioned in a preferred orientation for a boxer to deliver punches to said punching bag; a display screen being wrapped around said punching bag wherein said display screen is configured to display imagery that is visible to the boxer, said display screen being comprised of a resilient material wherein said display screen is configured to resist being damaged by punches delivered by the boxer; a communication unit being integrated into said punching bag, said communication unit being in communication with said display screen, said communication unit being in wireless communication with a personal electronic device thereby enabling said communication unit to receive data from said personal electronic device comprising photographic imagery or video imagery wherein said display screen is configured to display either the photographic imagery or the video imagery; and a plurality of pressure sensors, each of said plurality of pressure sensors being integrated into said punching bag wherein each of said plurality of pressure sensors is configured to sense the pressure of the punches delivered by the boxer, said plurality of pressure sensors being strategically distributed on said punching bag wherein said plurality of pressure sensors is configured to sense the pressure of the punches delivered by the boxer regardless of where the punches land on said punching bag.

    2. The electronic punching bag device according to claim 1, wherein: said punching bag includes a plurality of straps each being coupled to an outer surface of said punching bag; said plurality of straps is evenly spaced apart from each other and is distributed around a full circumference of said outer surface; each of said plurality of straps has a top end being aligned with a top surface of said punching bag; each of said plurality of chains has a bottom end being attached to said top end of a respective one of said plurality of straps; an upper end of each of said plurality of chains is attached to an annular ring thereby enabling said annular ring to be engaged to said suspension; said top surface of said punching bag has a cut extending into an interior of said punching bag; said punching bag includes a closure being movably integrated into said top surface; said closure extends along said cut for opening or closing said cut; said display screen extends around a full circumference of said outer surface of said punching bag; and said display screen extends between a bottom surface of said punching bag and a lower end of each of said plurality of straps on said outer surface of said punching bag.

The electronic punching bag device according to claim 1, wherein: said communication unit includes a control processor being integrated into said punching bag; said control processor is electrically coupled to said display screen; and said communication unit includes a transceiver being integrated into said punching bag; said transceiver is electrically coupled to said control processor; said transceiver is in wireless communication with a transceiver in said personal electronic device thereby enabling said transceiver associated with said communication unit to receive the data from said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device; and said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device is in wireless communication with an extrinsic communication network thereby enabling said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device to receive data from said extrinsic communication network wherein said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device is configured to receive the data from an individual associated with the boxer.

    4. The electronic punching bag device according to claim 3, wherein: said communication unit includes a speaker being integrated into a top surface of said punching bag wherein said speaker is configured to emit audible sounds outwardly from said top surface; said speaker is electrically coupled to said control processor thereby enabling said speaker to receive an audio signal from said transceiver associated with said communication unit which is received from said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device wherein said speaker is configured to emit words spoken by the individual associated with the boxer to enable the boxer to hear the individual associated with the boxer; said communication unit includes a volume increase button being movably integrated into said top surface of said punching bag wherein said volume increase button is configured to be manipulated by the boxer; said volume increase button is electrically coupled to said control circuit; said volume increase button incrementally increases an output intensity of said speaker toward a maximum intensity each time said volume increase button is depressed; said communication unit includes a volume decrease button being movably integrated into said top surface of said punching bag wherein said volume decrease button is configured to be manipulated by the boxer; said volume decrease button is electrically coupled to said control circuit; and said volume decrease button incrementally decreases said output intensity of said speaker toward a minimum intensity each time said volume decrease button is depressed.

    5. The electronic punching bag device according to claim 3, wherein: said communication unit includes a plurality of cameras; each of said plurality of cameras is integrated into an outwardly facing surface of said display screen wherein said plurality of cameras is configured to capture imagery of the boxer; each of said plurality of cameras is electrically coupled to said control processor thereby enabling said transceiver associated with said communication unit to broadcast data to said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device comprising the imagery captured by said plurality of cameras wherein said plurality of cameras is configured to enable the individual associated with the boxer to see the boxer delivering punches to said punching bag; said plurality of cameras is evenly spaced apart from each other and is distributed around a full circumference of said display screen; each of said plurality of cameras is located proximate an upper edge of said display screen wherein said plurality of cameras is configured to be inhibited from being struck by the boxer when the boxer is delivering punches to said display screen.

The electronic punching bag device according to claim 1, wherein: said communication unit includes a control processor; said communication unit includes a power supply being integrated into said punching bag; said power supply is electrically coupled to said control processor; said power supply comprises: a rechargeable battery being positioned within said punching bag, said rechargeable battery being electrically coupled to said control processor; a power cord being stored within said punching bag, said power cord being electrically coupled to said control processor, said power cord being accessible through said cut in said top surface of said punching bag thereby enabling said power cord to be pulled outwardly through said cut, said power cord having a male plug being electrically coupled to a distal end of said power cord wherein said male plug is configured to be electrically mated to a power source comprising a female electrical outlet thereby enabling said power cord to supply electrical power to said control processor in lieu of said rechargeable battery; a power button being movably integrated into said top surface of said punching bag wherein said power button is configured to be manipulated by the boxer, said power button being electrically coupled to said control processor for actuating or de-actuating said control processor; and a charge port being recessed into said top surface of said punching bag wherein said charge port is configured to insertably receive a charge cord, said charge port being electrically coupled to said rechargeable battery for charging said rechargeable battery.

The electronic punching bag device according to claim 3, wherein: each of said plurality of pressure sensors is electrically coupled to said control processor thereby enabling said transceiver associated with said communication unit to broadcast data comprising the pressure sensed by said pressure sensors to said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device wherein said plurality of pressure sensors is configured to enable the boxer to analyze the pressure sensed by said pressure sensors for training purposes; and each of said plurality of pressure sensors is recessed into an outer surface of said punching bag such that each of said plurality of pressure sensors is positioned behind said display screen.

    8. An electronic punching bag device for displaying an image of a boxing opponent and recording the intensity of punches delivered, said device comprising: a punching bag including a plurality of chains each being attached to and extending upwardly from said punching bag thereby enabling each of said plurality of chains to be attached to a suspension for suspending said punching bag from said suspension wherein said punching bag is configured to be positioned in a preferred orientation for a boxer to deliver punches to said punching bag, said punching bag including a plurality of straps each being coupled to an outer surface of said punching bag, said plurality of straps being evenly spaced apart from each other and being distributed around a full circumference of said outer surface, each of said plurality of straps having a top end being aligned with a top surface of said punching bag, each of said plurality of chains having a bottom end being attached to said top end of a respective one of said plurality of straps, an upper end of each of said plurality of chains being attached to an annular ring thereby enabling said annular ring to be engaged to said suspension, said top surface of said punching bag having a cut extending into an interior of said punching bag, said punching bag including a closure being movably integrated into said top surface, said closure extending along said cut for opening or closing said cut; a display screen being wrapped around said punching bag wherein said display screen is configured to display imagery that is visible to the boxer, said display screen being comprised of a resilient material wherein said display screen is configured to resist being damaged by punches delivered by the boxer, said display screen extending around a full circumference of said outer surface of said punching bag, said display screen extending between a bottom surface of said punching bag and a lower end of each of said plurality of straps on said outer surface of said punching bag; a communication unit being integrated into said punching bag, said communication unit being in communication with said display screen, said communication unit being in wireless communication with a personal electronic device thereby enabling said communication unit to receive data from said personal electronic device comprising photographic imagery or video imagery wherein said display screen is configured to display either the photographic imagery or the video imagery, said communication unit comprising: a control processor being integrated into said punching bag, said control processor being electrically coupled to said display screen; a transceiver being integrated into said punching bag, said transceiver being electrically coupled to said control processor, said transceiver being in wireless communication with a transceiver in said personal electronic device thereby enabling said transceiver associated with said communication unit to receive the data from said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device, said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device being in wireless communication with an extrinsic communication network thereby enabling said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device to receive data from said extrinsic communication network wherein said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device is configured to receive the data from an individual associated with the boxer; a speaker being integrated into said top surface of said punching bag wherein said speaker is configured to emit audible sounds outwardly from said top surface, said speaker being electrically coupled to said control processor thereby enabling said speaker to receive an audio signal from said transceiver associated with said communication unit which is received from said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device wherein said speaker is configured to emit words spoken by the individual associated with the boxer to enable the boxer to hear the individual associated with the boxer; a volume increase button being movably integrated into said top surface of said punching bag wherein said volume increase button is configured to be manipulated by the boxer, said volume increase button being electrically coupled to said control circuit, said volume increase button incrementally increasing an output intensity of said speaker toward a maximum intensity each time said volume increase button is depressed; a volume decrease button being movably integrated into said top surface of said punching bag wherein said volume decrease button is configured to be manipulated by the boxer, said volume decrease button being electrically coupled to said control circuit, said volume decrease button incrementally decreasing said output intensity of said speaker toward a minimum intensity each time said volume decrease button is depressed; a plurality of cameras, each of said plurality of cameras being integrated into an outwardly facing surface of said display screen wherein said plurality of cameras is configured to capture imagery of the boxer, each of said plurality of cameras being electrically coupled to said control processor thereby enabling said transceiver associated with said communication unit to broadcast data to said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device comprising the imagery captured by said plurality of cameras wherein said plurality of cameras is configured to enable the individual associated with the boxer to see the boxer delivering punches to said punching bag, said plurality of cameras being evenly spaced apart from each other and being distributed around a full circumference of said display screen, each of said plurality of cameras being located proximate an upper edge of said display screen wherein said plurality of cameras is configured to be inhibited from being struck by the boxer when the boxer is delivering punches to said display screen; and a power supply being integrated into said punching bag, said power supply being electrically coupled to said control processor, said power supply comprising: a rechargeable battery being positioned within said punching bag, said rechargeable battery being electrically coupled to said control processor; a power cord being stored within said punching bag, said power cord being electrically coupled to said control processor, said power cord being accessible through said cut in said top surface of said punching bag thereby enabling said power cord to be pulled outwardly through said cut, said power cord having a male plug being electrically coupled to a distal end of said power cord wherein said male plug is configured to be electrically mated to a power source comprising a female electrical outlet thereby enabling said power cord to supply electrical power to said control processor in lieu of said rechargeable battery; a power button being movably integrated into said top surface of said punching bag wherein said power button is configured to be manipulated by the boxer, said power button being electrically coupled to said control processor for actuating or de-actuating said control processor; and a charge port being recessed into said top surface of said punching bag wherein said charge port is configured to insertably receive a charge cord, said charge port being electrically coupled to said rechargeable battery for charging said rechargeable battery; and a plurality of pressure sensors, each of said plurality of pressure sensors being integrated into said punching bag wherein each of said plurality of pressure sensors is configured to sense the pressure of the punches delivered by the boxer, said plurality of pressure sensors being strategically distributed on said punching bag wherein said plurality of pressure sensors is configured to sense the pressure of the punches delivered by the boxer regardless of where the punches land on said punching bag, each of said plurality of pressure sensors being electrically coupled to said control processor thereby enabling said transceiver associated with said communication unit to broadcast data comprising the pressure sensed by said pressure sensors to said transceiver associated with said personal electronic device wherein said plurality of pressure sensors is configured to enable the boxer to analyze the pressure sensed by said pressure sensors for training purposes, each of said plurality of pressure sensors being recessed into said outer surface of said punching bag such that each of said plurality of pressure sensors is positioned behind said display screen.

    DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION

    [0020] With reference now to the drawings, and in particular to FIGS. 1 through 8 thereof, a new punching bag device embodying the principles and concepts of an embodiment of the disclosure and generally designated by the reference numeral 10 will be described.

    [0021] As best illustrated in FIGS. 1 through 8, the electronic punching bag device 10 generally comprises a punching bag 12 which includes a plurality of chains 14 each attached to and extending upwardly from the punching bag 12. Each of the plurality of chains 14 can be attached to a suspension 16 for suspending the punching bag 12 from the suspension 16. In this way the punching bag 12 can be positioned in a preferred orientation for a boxer 18 to deliver punches to the punching bag 12. The punching bag 12 may be a heavy punching bag of any conventional design that is commonly employed for striking training for boxing or martial arts.

    [0022] The punching bag 12 includes a plurality of straps 20 each coupled to an outer surface 22 of the punching bag 12 and the straps 20 are evenly spaced apart from each other and are distributed around a full circumference of the outer surface 22. Each of the plurality of straps 20 has a top end 24 which is aligned with a top surface 26 of the punching bag 12 and each of the plurality of chains 14 has a bottom end 28 which is attached to the top end 24 of a respective one of the plurality of straps 20. Furthermore, an upper end 30 of each of the plurality of chains 14 is attached to an annular ring 32 thereby enabling the annular ring 32 to be engaged to the suspension 16. A swivel 34 may be attached to the annular ring 32 and the swivel 34 may be attachable to the suspension 16 which enables the punching bag 12 to rotate about a vertical axis on the suspension 16. The suspension 16 may be any elevated structure that has the load capacity to support the weight of the punching bag 12 as well as to withstand the force generated by the boxer 18 delivering punches to the punching bag 12. The top surface 26 of the punching bag 12 has a cut 36 extending into an interior of the punching bag 12 and the punching bag 12 includes a closure 38 which is movably integrated into the top surface 26. The closure 38 extends along the cut 36 for opening or closing the cut 36 and the closure 38 may comprise a zipper or other type of mechanical closure.

    [0023] A display screen 40 is wrapped around the punching bag 12 to display imagery that is visible to the boxer 18. The display screen 40 is comprised of a resilient material, including but not being limited to polyimide or a metallic material, to resist being damaged by punches delivered by the boxer 18. Additionally, the display screen 40 extends around a full circumference of the outer surface 22 of the punching bag 12 and the display screen 40 extends between a bottom surface 42 of the punching bag 12 and a lower end 44 of each of the plurality of straps 20 on the outer surface 22 of the punching bag 12. The display screen 40 may comprise an organic light emitting diode display or the like which is capable of displaying high resolution imagery to produce high definition imagery and videos.

    [0024] A communication unit 46 is integrated into the punching bag 12 and the communication unit 46 is in communication with the display screen 40. The communication unit 46 is in wireless communication with a personal electronic device 48 thereby enabling the communication unit 46 to receive data from the personal electronic device 48 comprising photographic imagery or video imagery. In this way the display screen 40 can display either the photographic imagery or the video imagery which may comprise an image of a boxing opponent or video footage of the boxing opponent. The communication unit 46 comprises a control processor 50 which is integrated into the punching bag 12 and the control processor 50 is electrically coupled to the display screen 40. The personal electronic device 48 may comprise a smartphone or other similar type of electronic device and the personal electronic device 48 may store a smart phone application for analyzing punches.

    [0025] The communication unit 46 includes a transceiver 52 which is integrated into the punching bag 12 and the transceiver 52 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50. The transceiver 52 is in wireless communication with a transceiver 54 in the personal electronic device 48 thereby enabling the transceiver 52 associated with the communication unit 46 to receive the data from the transceiver 54 associated with the personal electronic device 48. Furthermore, the transceiver 54 associated with the personal electronic device 48 is in wireless communication with an extrinsic communication network 56 thereby enabling the transceiver 54 associated with the personal electronic device 48 to receive data from the extrinsic communication network 56. In this way the transceiver 54 associated with the personal electronic device 48 can receive the data from an individual associated with the boxer 18. The transceiver 52 associated with the communication unit 46 may comprise a radio frequency transceiver or the like and the transceiver 52 associated with the communication unit 46 may employ Bluetooth communication protocols. Additionally, the extrinsic communication network 56 may comprise a cellular phone network, the internet or other type of wireless, global communication network.

    [0026] The communication unit 46 includes a speaker 58 which is integrated into the top surface 26 of the punching bag 12 to emit audible sounds outwardly from the top surface 26. The speaker 58 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50 thereby enabling the speaker 58 to receive an audio signal from the transceiver 52 associated with the communication unit 46 which is received from the transceiver 54 associated with the personal electronic device 48. In this way the speaker 58 can emit words spoken by an individual associated with the boxer 18 to enable the boxer 18 to hear the individual associated with the boxer 18. Additionally, the speaker 58 may be an electronic speaker of any conventional design and the individual associated with the boxer 18 may be a boxing coach or a training partner.

    [0027] The communication unit 46 includes a volume increase button 60 which is movably integrated into the top surface 26 of the punching bag 12 which can be manipulated by the boxer 18. The volume increase button 60 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50 and the volume increase button 60 incrementally increases an output intensity of the speaker 58 toward a maximum intensity each time the volume increase button 60 is depressed. The communication unit 46 includes a volume decrease button 62 which is movably integrated into the top surface 26 of the punching bag 12 which can be manipulated by the boxer 18. The volume decrease button 62 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50 and the volume decrease button 62 incrementally decreases the output intensity of the speaker 58 toward a minimum intensity each time the volume decrease button 62 is depressed.

    [0028] The communication unit 46 includes a plurality of cameras 64 and each of the plurality of cameras 64 is integrated into an outwardly facing surface 65 of the display screen 40 to capture imagery of the boxer 18. Each of the plurality of cameras 64 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50 thereby enabling the transceiver 52 associated with the communication unit 46 to broadcast data to the transceiver 54 associated with the personal electronic device 48 comprising the imagery captured by the plurality of cameras 64. In this way the plurality of cameras 64 enables the individual associated with the boxer 18 to see the boxer 18 delivering punches to the punching bag 12. The plurality of cameras 64 is evenly spaced apart from each other and is distributed around a full circumference of the display screen 40. Additionally, each of the plurality of cameras 64 is located proximate an upper edge 66 of the display screen 40 such that the plurality of cameras 64 are inhibited from being struck by the boxer 18 when the boxer 18 is delivering punches to the display screen 40. Furthermore, each of the plurality of cameras 64 may comprise a digital video camera of any conventional design.

    [0029] The communication unit 46 includes a power supply 67 which is integrated into the punching bag 12 and the power supply 67 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50. The power supply 67 comprises a rechargeable battery 68 which is positioned within the punching bag 12 and the rechargeable battery 68 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50. The power supply 67 includes a power cord 70 which is stored within the punching bag 12 and the power cord 70 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50. The power cord 70 is accessible through the cut 36 in the top surface 26 of the punching bag 12 thereby enabling the power cord 70 to be pulled outwardly through the cut 36. Furthermore, the power cord 70 has a male plug 72 which is electrically coupled to a distal end 74 of the power cord 70 and the male plug 72 can be electrically mated to a power source 76 comprising a female electrical outlet thereby enabling the power cord 70 to supply electrical power to the control processor 50 in lieu of the rechargeable battery 68.

    [0030] The power supply 67 includes a power button 78 which is movably integrated into the top surface 26 of the punching bag 12 and the power button 78 can be manipulated by the boxer 18. Additionally, the power button 78 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50 for actuating or de-actuating the control processor 50. The power supply 67 includes a charge port 80 which is recessed into the top surface 26 of the punching bag 12 and the charge port 80 can insertably receive a charge cord 81. The charge port 80 is electrically coupled to the rechargeable battery 68 for charging the rechargeable battery 68. Additionally, the charge port 80 may comprise a universal serial bus port or other type of charge port commonly associated with rechargeable electronic devices.

    [0031] A plurality of pressure sensors 82 is provided and each of the plurality of pressure sensors 82 is integrated into the punching bag 12 to sense the pressure of the punches delivered by the boxer 18. The plurality of pressure sensors 82 is strategically distributed on the punching bag 12 to sense the pressure of the punches delivered by the boxer 18 regardless of where the punches land on the punching bag 12. Each of the plurality of pressure sensors 82 is electrically coupled to the control processor 50 thereby enabling the transceiver 52 associated with the communication unit 46 to broadcast data comprising the pressure sensed by the pressure sensors 82 to the transceiver 54 associated with the personal electronic device 48. In this way the plurality of pressure sensors 82 enables the boxer 18 to analyze the pressure sensed by the pressure sensors 82 for training purposes. Furthermore, each of the plurality of pressure sensors 82 is recessed into the outer surface 22 of the punching bag 12 such that each of the plurality of pressure sensors 82 is positioned behind the display screen 40. Each of the pressure sensors 82 may comprise an electronic pressure sensor or the like and each of the pressure sensors 82 may have a sensitivity range which ranges between approximately 45.0 kg and 680.0 kg thereby enabling the pressure sensors 82 to withstand the force generated by a professional heavyweight boxer.

    [0032] In use, the personal electronic device 48 is synchronized with the communication unit 46 to enable imagery to be broadcast to the display screen 40. In this way the boxer 18 can practice landing punches on the punching bag 12 in relation to the imagery displayed on the display screen 40. Additionally, the pressure sensors 82 sense the pressure of each punch that is landed on the punching bag 12 and the data from the pressure sensors 82 is broadcast to the personal electronic device 48. In this way the smart phone application stored in the personal electronic device 48 enables the boxer 18 to analyze the data from the pressure sensors 82 to enable the boxer 18 to monitor their progress during training. The plurality of cameras 64 enables the individual associated with the boxer 18 to view the boxer 18 while the boxer 18 is delivering punches to enable the individual associated with the boxer 18 to offer critiques and training advise. Furthermore, the speaker 58 enables the boxer 18 to hear words that are spoken by the individual associated with the boxer 18 while the boxer 18 is delivering punches to the punching bag 12.
