DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
[0049] The characteristics, variants and different modes of realization of the invention may be associated with each other in various combinations, in so far as they are not incompatible or exclusive with each other. In particular, variants of the invention comprising only a selection of features subsequently described in from the other features described may be imagined, if this selection of features is enough to confer a technical advantage and/or to differentiate the invention from prior art.
[0050] Items shown in the drawings are not to scale and are simplified to increase clarity of disclosure.
[0051] The following embodiments are examples. Although the description refers to one or more embodiments, this does not necessarily mean that each reference is to the same embodiment, or that the features apply only to one embodiment. Simple features of different embodiments may also be combined and/or interchanged to provide further embodiments.
[0052] In the present description, certain elements or parameters may be indexed, for example first element or second element as well as first parameter and second parameter or first criterion and second criterion, etc. In this case, it is a simple indexing operation to differentiate and name elements or parameters or criteria which are close, but not identical. In this case, simple indexing is used to differentiate and name elements or parameters or criteria which are close, but not identical. This indexing does not imply that one element, parameter or criterion has priority over another, and such names can easily be interchanged without going beyond the scope of this description. Nor does this indexing imply an order in time, for example to assess a particular criterion.
[0053] In the following detailed description, the terms longitudinal, transverse and vertical refer to the orientation of a wiper system according to the invention. A longitudinal direction corresponds to a main direction of elongation of a wiper blade of this wiper system, this longitudinal direction being parallel to a longitudinal axis L of a reference frame L, V, T illustrated in the figures. A vertical direction corresponds to a stacking direction of a connector, an adapter assembly and a wiper arm of the wiper system, this vertical direction being parallel to a vertical axis V of the reference frame L, V, T and this vertical axis V being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis L. Finally, a transverse direction corresponds to a direction parallel to a transverse axis T of the reference frame L, V, T, this transverse axis T being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis L and the vertical axis V being perpendicular to the longitudinal axis L.
[0054] In addition, the designations lower and upper with respect to the elements of the wiper system are understood with respect to the distance of these elements from the wiper blade, a lower end/side of such elements corresponding to the end/side disposed in the vicinity of this wiper blade, while an upper end/side corresponds to the end/side disposed at a distance from the wiper blade. The designations front, forward, rear and rearward needs to be understood with reference to the longitudinal direction. Further, the designations upward and downward needs to be understood with reference to the vertical direction. The designation length refers to the dimension of the component/element measured along the longitudinal direction L. Moreover, the designations inner and outer are understood with respect to the longitudinal central axis of the component. For example, the surface disposed towards the longitudinal central axis of the component may be referred as inner surface and the surface disposed away from the longitudinal central axis of the component may be referred as outer surface.
[0055] The present invention relates to a wiper system used to clean a glazed surface of a vehicle, for example a windscreen, so as to improve driver's visibility of the road in front of the vehicle. The wiper system generally comprises at least one wiper arm carrying at one end, a wiper blade which extends mainly along the longitudinal axis L. The wiper blade comprises at least one wiper strip (rubber), intended to be in contact with the glazed surface to be cleaned, and a support for the said wiper strip. The wiper blade is secured to the wiper arm by an adapter assembly. The adapter assembly according to the present invention includes a base member pivotally connected to a connecter of the wiper blade, a platform member connected to the base member at least at the rear end, and a locking cap pivotally connected to a front end of the base member. A locking feature may be formed on side walls of the platform member to cooperate with a pin provided on inner surface of the wiper arms, to restrict longitudinally rearward and vertically upward movement of the wiper arm with respect to the adapter assembly. The locking feature may be formed as a horizontal rib extending longitudinally and a vertical rib extending downwards from rear end of the horizontal rib. Further, the base member may include a guiding tab formed on longitudinal walls, near front end of the base member. The guiding tab may be adapted to guide a yoke of the wiper arm such that the pins of the wiper arm are received in the space formed by the horizontal and vertical ribs, during mounting of the wiper arm on the adapter assembly. The guiding tab may be further adapted to restrict longitudinally forward and vertically downward movement of the yoke of the wiper arm with respect to the adapter assembly. The base member may further include a seating tab having a top surface to cooperate with the side walls of the yoke, to restrict downward movement of rear portion of the yoke with respect to the adapter assembly. The base member may further include flexible tabs to grip the yoke for improving the connection of wiper arm with the adapter assembly. The locking cap may be pivoted and locked on the base member for further securing the yoke of the wiper arm on the adapter assembly. Therefore, the adapter assembly of present invention facilitates secure connection of the wiper arm having inverted U-shaped design with pins, to the connector of the wiper arm.

[0059] Further, a flexible tab 228 may be formed on at least one of the longitudinal walls 222. Preferably, the flexible tab 228 may be formed on the side panels 222a of the guide block 223. The flexible tab 228 may be provided in the form of a cantilever leg that may be deformable, when the wiper arm 100 is being mounted on the adapter assembly 200. The flexible tab 228 may be formed on both the longitudinal walls 222, and may be adapted to grip the wiper arm 100.
[0060] The base member 220 may further include a guiding tab 224 formed on at least one of the longitudinal walls 222, preferably on the outer surface of the side panel 222a of the guide block 223. The guiding tab 224 may be positioned between the first pivot axis P1 and the third pivot axis P3, near the third pivot axis P3. Preferably, the guiding tab 224 may be provided on both the longitudinal walls 222. The base member 220 may further include a seating tab 226 formed on at least one of the longitudinal walls 222, towards rear side of the first pivot axis P1. The seating tab 226 may extend outwards from the outer surface of the longitudinal wall 222. Preferably, the seating tab 226 may be provided on both the longitudinal walls 222.

[0062]
[0063]
[0064] The front end 240a of the platform member 240 may include tongues 242a integrally formed with the side walls 242. These tongues 242a of the platform member 240 may be designed to be received in the guide block 223 of the base member 220, when the platform member 240 is in its folded position, as shown in
[0065] As shown in
[0066]
[0067]
[0068] The first pivot axis P1 and the second pivot axis P2 may be offset vertically with respect to each other.
[0069]
[0070]
[0071]
[0072] In second step, as shown in
[0073] Further, while moving the front end 102a of the yoke 102 downwards, the flexible tab 228 of the base member 220 deforms inwards and cooperates with inner surfaces of the side walls 106 to grip the yoke 102.
[0074] As shown in
[0075] While removing the wiper arm 100 from the adapter assembly 200, first the locking cap 260 may be pivoted to its unlocked state, then the front end 102a of the yoke 102 may be moved upward and slightly forward, such that the pins 108 of the yoke 102 move out of the locking feature 244 of the platform member 240. And finally, the yoke 102 of the wiper arm 100 may be moved upwards i.e. vertically away from the adapter assembly 200.
[0076] The invention shall not, however, be limited to the means and configurations described and illustrated herein, and shall also extend to any equivalent means or configuration described and illustrated herein, and to any technical combination operating such means.
