HOODED GARMENT

Abstract

A hooded garment having a lower portion and a head portion wherein the head portion is form fitting so as to allow a wearer to don a safety helmet. The garment is manufactured from a material having a first layer and a second layer integrally joined. The first layer is manufactured from a suitable moisture wicking fabric and is adjacent the wearer. The second layer of the material is manufactured from a suitable fire retardant material. The lower portion of the garment covers the torso and extends down to the waist of the user. The head portion is manufactured in a thickness that is less than that of the lower portion. The head portion includes a perimeter edge defining the face opening of the head portion. The perimeter edge includes lateral formations that are generally U-shaped proximate the eyes of the wearer so as to ensure maintenance of peripheral vision.

Claims

1. A hooded garment comprising: a body, said body being manufactured from a material having a first layer and a second layer, said first layer and said second layer being integrally formed, said body having a lower portion and a head portion, said lower portion and said head portion of said body being integrally formed, said lower portion configured to provide coverage of a torso of a wearer of the hooded garment, said head portion having a perimeter edge, said perimeter edge having lateral formations configured to be proximate eyes of the wearer on both sides of a head of the wearer, said lateral formations formed from uncovered voids in the perimeter edge and the head portion extending rearward, said lateral formations configured to remove the perimeter edge from a peripheral field of vision of the wearer; and wherein the lower portion is manufactured in a first thickness and said head portion is manufactured in a second thickness, and wherein said head portion is formed and dimensioned to permit a safety helmet to be worn by the wearer underneath the head portion.

2. The hooded garment as recited in claim 1, wherein said first thickness is greater than that of said second thickness.

3. The hooded garment as recited in claim 2, wherein said first layer is a moisture absorbent material.

4. The hooded garment as recited in claim 3, wherein said second layer is a fire-retardant material.

5. The hooded garment as recited in claim 4, wherein said lateral formations in said perimeter edge are U-shaped.

6. The hooded garment as recited in claim 5, wherein said body has a reflective material disposed on a portion of an outer surface thereof.

[0021] Referring in particular to the Figures submitted herewith, the hooded garment 100 includes a body 5 having a lower portion 10 and head portion 30 that are integrally formed so as to provide coverage of the upper torso, arms and head of a wearer of the hooded garment 100. The lower portion 10 and head portion 30 are integrally formed utilizing suitable techniques such as but not limited to stitching. While not particularly illustrated herein, it should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the lower portion 10 has long sleeves and extends to the waist area of the wearer. The body 5 is manufactured from a two-layer material as is further discussed herein in reference to FIG. 3 submitted as a part hereof. The lower portion 10 is manufactured to have a thickness that is greater than the thickness of the head portion 30. While no particular thickness is required, a preferred embodiment of the present invention has at least a five millimeter thickness for the lower portion 10 and no more than a three millimeter thickness for the head portion 30. The head portion 30 must have a reduced thickness in order to ensure no interference with the exemplary safety helmet 99. The hooded garment 100 in a preferred embodiment is constructed to be worn in environments subject to government safety compliance regulations.

[0022] The outer surface of the lower portion 10 in a preferred embodiment has reflective material on at least a portion thereof. It should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the outer surface of the lower portion 10 could have either reflective material and/or high visibility colors on all or a portion thereof. The body 10 is manufactured from a material having a first layer 6 and a second layer 7 that are integrally formed utilizing suitable durable techniques. The first layer 6 is manufactured from a suitable moisture wicking material. The second layer 7 of the body 5 is manufactured from a fire retardant material such as but not limited to Nomex. It should be understood within the scope of the present invention that the body 5 having the two layers discussed herein is manufactured to the thicknesses for the lower portion 10 and head portion 30 as previously discussed herein.

[0023] The head portion 30 is configured so as to be form fitting to the wearer's head to ensure proper fit of the safety helmet 99. A form fitting head portion 30 along with the reduced thickness of the head portion 30 provides the ability for a wearer of the hooded garment 100 to don a safety helmet 99 or other similar device. The head portion 30 includes perimeter edge 35 that outlines the head cavity of the head portion 30. The perimeter edge 35 includes a lateral formation 38 proximate the eyes of the wearer of the hooded garment 100. The lateral formation 38 is located on both sides of the head portion 30 proximate the eyes of the wearer. Lateral formation 38 is arcuate in shape extending rearward with respect to the wearer's head so as to provide no interference with the peripheral vision of the wearer while wearing the hooded garment 100. The lateral formation 38 is generally U-shaped and extends rearward in a sufficient amount to ensure a wearer can maintain a full one hundred and eighty degree peripheral vision. It is contemplated within the scope of the present invention that the height of the lateral formation could vary as well as the depth provided no impedance of the peripheral vision of the wearer occurs.
