Abstract
An undergarment includes a fabric panel and a strip of elastic material. The fabric panel has a first end and a second end. The strip of elastic material has a central region, a first outboard end, and a second outboard end. The strip's width tapers from the central region to each of the first and second outboard ends. The central region is coupled to the first end of the fabric panel. The strip's first outboard end and second outboard end are respectively coupled to opposing sides of the second end of the fabric panel.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
(14) Referring now to the drawings and more particularly to
(15) Undergarment 10 includes a fabric panel 20 and a strip 30 of elastic material(s) that is coupled to fabric panel 20 via stitching, fusing, gluing, etc. However, it is to be understood that fabric panel 20 and strip 30 may be constructed from a single piece of fabric or otherwise integrated with one another without departing from the scope of the present disclosure. Briefly, when worn by a woman, fabric panel 20 rests against the wearer's genitalia, while strip 30 wraps around the outside of the wearer's thighs and under the wearer's lower buttocks regions (i.e., under the cheeks). Each of panel 20 and strip 30 may be made from a single piece of material or multiple pieces of material without departing from the scope of the present disclosure.
(16) Fabric panel 20 may be made from one or more layers of soft fabric suitable for coming into contact with a wearer's genitalia and surrounding skin regions. Fabric panel 20 may include moisture-absorbing, moisture-wicking, and/or deodorizing layer(s). Fabric panel 20 may be a simple rectangular panel (as shown in
(17) Strip 30 is an elongate piece of elastic material that is coupled to first end 21 and second end 22 of fabric panel 20. In some embodiments, a suitable elastic material for strip 30 is an interlock or double-knit fabric as such fabrics are soft and resist curling when stretched. Materials typically used for interlock fabrics include, but are not limited to, cotton, wool, spandex, polyester, and combinations thereof.
(18) Referring additionally now to
(19) The above-referenced dimensions of L for fabric panel 20 and W.sub.1 and W.sub.2 for strip 30 are varied for different sizes of undergarment 10. In some embodiments, a good fit and function may be achieved when one or both of the following ratios satisfy the disclosed numeric range. The first of the ratios relates the width W.sub.1 of central region 31 to the width W.sub.2 of outboard ends 32 and 33. For a broad size range of extra-small to a plus size, the ratio (W.sub.1/W.sub.2) may be in the range of 1.5 to 14.3. The second of the ratios includes the length L of fabric panel 20 and the width W.sub.1 of central region 31 of strip 30. For a broad size range of extra-small to a plus size, the ratio L/(L+W.sub.1) may be in the range of 0.62 to 0.91. The minimum-to-maximum ranges for the above-described ratios on a size basis are as follows:
(20) TABLE-US-00001 (L.sub.1/ (L.sub.1/ Size (W.sub.1/W.sub.2).sub.MIN (W.sub.1/W.sub.2).sub.MAX (L + W.sub.1).sub.MIN (L + W.sub.1).sub.MAX X-small 1.9 14.3 0.62 0.84 Small 1.9 11.8 0.62 0.84 Medium 1.7 9.5 0.62 0.85 Large 1.7 8.1 0.62 0.86 Plus 1.5 7.6 0.65 0.91
(21) Referring now additionally and simultaneously to
(22) In addition, since strip 30 is tapered from its central region 31 and extends under the lower portion of the buttocks 104 and since undergarment 10 is a waistband-free undergarment, strip 30 is virtually invisible under one's outer garment (not shown).
(23) The strip of elastic material described above may be configured in a variety of ways for design or aesthetic purposes (e.g., curved as shown in
(24) As mentioned above, the fabric panel in the described leg loop undergarment may be anatomically shaped. For example and with simultaneous reference to
(25) The advantages of the leg loop undergarment described herein are numerous. The undergarment's minimalist coverage of the wearer's buttocks and waistband-free design present the desired appearance of wearing nothing at all under a lower-body outer garment. At the same time, the undergarment's unique strip with its wider central region provides the comfort and feel of traditional panties at the wearer's lower abdomen region. Further, the undergarment's unique dimensioning of the strip's central region and length of its fabric panel, as well as the coupling of the strip to opposing sides of the second end of the fabric panel, assure the retention of the fabric panel in its proper position for coverage of the wearer's genitalia. As a result, the leg loop undergarment provides a new minimalist panty that is visually appealing, protects sensitive body regions, is hygienic, and protects outer garments.
(26) Although the methods and systems presented herein have been described for specific embodiments thereof, there are numerous variations and modifications that will be readily apparent to those skilled in the art in light of the above teachings. For example, the leg loop undergarment may include a variety of technical and/or aesthetic fabrics without departing form the scope of the present disclosure. The strip and fabric panel may be joined at their edges or may partially overlap one another without departing form the scope of the present disclosure. This is illustrated in
