    Abstract

The present invention relates to a collapsible corrugated plastic barrel designed for efficient storage, packing, and transportation of various goods. The barrel features a cylindrical body made from corrugated plastic, a base portion, a top portion, and a detachable lid. The corrugated structure allows the barrel to collapse inwardly towards the base for compact storage when not in use, significantly reducing storage space and transportation costs.

Constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), the barrel offers durability, impact resistance, and chemical resistance. The design includes features such as Stackability forklift entry points, and ergonomic corrugation for easy handling. The barrel is also recyclable and exempt from ISPM 15 regulations, making it an environmentally friendly solution for various industries.

    Claims

    1. A collapsible corrugated plastic barrel, comprising: a) a cylindrical body member configured to hold contents, the body member having a plurality of corrugations that allow it to collapse inwardly into a reduced-volume configuration; b) a cover configured to engage an upper circumference of the body member to enclose the contents, the cover being operable between an open position and a closed position; and c) a locking mechanism, including a sealing ring positioned on the cover, the locking mechanism being configured to secure the cover to the body member and thereby lock the contents within the barrel.

    2. The collapsible corrugated plastic barrel of claim 1, wherein the plurality of corrugations is configured to provide structural rigidity when the barrel is deployed and flexibility when it is collapsed, the collapsed state being characterized by the body member moving inwardly toward a base portion.

    3. The collapsible corrugated plastic barrel of claim 1, wherein the locking mechanism further comprises an interlocking feature that engages a complementary structure on the body member when the cover is in the closed position.

    Description

    DETAILED DESCRIPTION INVENTION

[0027] The present invention pertains to a collapsible corrugated plastic barrel designed for the efficient storage, packing, and transportation of various goods. The barrel is constructed from high-density polyethylene (HDPE), providing durability, impact resistance, and chemical resistance. It features a cylindrical body with a corrugated structure, a base portion, a top portion, and a detachable lid.

    Construction/Manufacturing the Barrel:

    1. Base Portion:

[0028] The base portion is molded from HDPE using structural foam molding techniques to ensure strength and durability. It serves as the foundation of the barrel and includes forklift entry points for easy handling and transport.

    2. Cylindrical Body:

[0029] The cylindrical body is formed with a corrugated structure to provide enhanced rigidity and flexibility. The corrugation allows the body to collapse inwardly towards the base, significantly reducing storage space when not in use. The cylindrical body is connected to the base portion and the top portion via hinge mechanisms.

    3. Top Portion:

[0030] The top portion is also molded from HDPE and is designed to engage securely with the upper edges of the cylindrical body. It provides structural integrity to the barrel when in the expanded position.

    4. Locking Mechanisms:

[0031] Locking mechanisms are incorporated to secure the barrel in its expanded position during use. These mechanisms ensure stability and maintain the barrel's shape during the storage and transportation of goods.

    5. Detachable Lid:

[0032] The detachable lid is designed to fit securely over the top portion, protecting the contents within the barrel. The lid can be easily removed and reattached, providing convenient access to the stored goods.

    Operation:

    1. Expanding the Barrel:

[0033] To use the barrel, expand the cylindrical body from its collapsed state by pulling the top portion upward until the hinge mechanisms lock into place. This action transforms the barrel into its full height, ready for filling.

    2. Filling the Barrel:

[0034] The expanded barrel can be filled with various goods to the desired height, ensuring even distribution to maintain stability. The corrugated structure provides the necessary rigidity to support the contents.

    3. Securing the Lid:

[0035] Once filled, the detachable lid is placed over the top portion and secured using the locking mechanisms in the form of a circular ring. This ensures that the contents are protected during storage and transportation.

    4. Collapsing the Barret:

[0036] When the barrel is empty, remove the lid and disengage the locking mechanisms. Push the top portion downward, allowing the cylindrical body to collapse inwardly towards the base. This compact configuration significantly reduces the storage space required for the empty barrel.

    Additional Features:

    1. Stackability:

[0037] The design allows multiple barrels to be stacked securely, optimizing storage and transportation efficiency.

    2. Ergonomic Corrugation:

[0038] The corrugated design provides a comfortable grip for manual handling, making it easier to move and transport the barrel.

    2. Environmental and Safety Considerations:

[0039] The barrel is made from 100% recyclable HDPE polymers, contributing to environmental sustainability. It is also exempt from ISPM 15 regulations, ensuring it is hygienic and easily sanitized.

[0040] By following these construction and operational steps, the collapsible corrugated plastic barrel provides a practical and efficient solution for the storage and transportation of goods across various industries. The innovative design enhances both operational efficiency and environmental sustainability.
