Abstract
A utility cart may include a base having a first side, a second side, a third side, and a fourth side. A utility cart may include a first tray supported above the base by at least one support post. A utility cart may include a second tray movably coupled to the first tray by a strut. A utility cart may include a cart handle coupled to the first tray. A utility cart may include a plurality of wheels secured to a bottom of the base.
Claims
1. A utility cart comprising: a base having a first side, a second side, a third side, and a fourth side; a first tray supported above the base by at least one support post; a second tray movably coupled to the first tray by a strut; a cart handle coupled to the first tray; and a plurality of wheels secured to a bottom of the base.
2. The utility cart of claim 1, wherein the strut is adjustable such that a height of the second tray relative to the first tray is adjustable.
3. The utility cart of claim 2, wherein the second tray includes a latch lever that is actuatable to adjust the height of the second tray via the strut.
4. The utility cart of claim 2, wherein the height of the second tray is adjustable via the strut in predetermined increments.
5. The utility cart of claim 2, wherein the second tray is adjustable via a motor.
6. The utility cart of claim 1, wherein the first tray is supported by a plurality of support posts, the plurality of support posts including a first support post extending upwardly from the base between the fourth side and the first side, a second support post extending upwardly from the base between the first side and the second side, a third support post extending upwardly from the base between the second side and the third side, and a fourth support post extending upwardly from the base between the third side and the fourth side.
7. The utility cart of claim 6, further comprising: a first side panel positioned on the first side between the base and the first tray and between the first support post and the second support post, a second side panel positioned on the second side between the base and the first tray and between the second support post and the third support post, a third side panel positioned on the third side between the base and the first tray and between the third support post and the fourth support post, and a fourth side panel positioned on the fourth side between the base and the first tray and between the fourth support post and the first support post.
8. The utility cart of claim 1, wherein the cart handle is movable relative to the first tray.
9. The utility cart of claim 8, wherein the cart handle is vertically and horizontally movable relative to the first tray.
10. A utility cart comprising: a base having a first side, a second side, a third side, and a fourth side; a tray supported above the base by at least one support post; a cart handle coupled to the tray and movable between an engaged position in which the cart handle is positioned at a first height relative to a support surface and a disengaged position in which the cart handle is positioned at a second height relative to the support surface, the second height being less than the first height; and a plurality of wheels secured to a bottom of the base and movably supported on the support surface.
11. The utility cart of claim 10, wherein in the disengaged position the cart handle is positioned below an upper surface of the tray.
12. The utility cart of claim 10, wherein the tray includes a notch, and wherein the cart handle includes a stopper selectively engageable with the notch.
13. The utility cart of claim 12, wherein in the engaged position the stopper is engaged with the notch and in the disengaged position the stopper is disengaged from the notch.
14. The utility cart of claim 13, wherein the tray includes a slot, and wherein the cart handle includes a sliding component slidably received within the slot.
15. The utility cart of claim 14, wherein to move the cart handle from the engaged position to the disengaged position, the stopper of the cart handle is disengaged from the notch and lowered as the sliding component slides along a length of the slot.
16. The utility cart of claim 15, wherein to move the cart handle from the disengaged position to the engaged position, the cart handle is raised as the sliding component slides along a length of the slot and the stopper is positioned in the notch.
17. The utility cart of claim 10, wherein the cart handle is moved vertically and horizontally between the engaged position and the disengaged position.
18. The utility cart of claim 10, wherein the tray is a first tray, and further comprising a second tray that is movably supported above the first tray via a strut.
19. The utility cart of claim 10, wherein the tray is supported by a plurality of support posts, the plurality of support posts including a first support post extending upwardly from the base between the fourth side and the first side, a second support post extending upwardly from the base between the first side and the second side, a third support post extending upwardly from the base between the second side and the third side, and a fourth support post extending upwardly from the base between the third side and the fourth side.
20. The utility cart of claim 19, further comprising: a first side panel positioned on the first side between the base and the tray and between the first support post and the second support post, a second side panel positioned on the second side between the base and the tray and between the second support post and the third support post, a third side panel positioned on the third side between the base and the tray and between the third support post and the fourth support post, and a fourth side panel positioned on the fourth side between the base and the tray and between the fourth support post and the first support post.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0027] Disclosed is a utility cart that provides increased flexibility and convenience for a user on a jobsite by being able to easily transport and access tools and other construction supplies at the user's work station. The utility cart may be an enclosed structure on wheels with a tray on top such that a worker's tools may be stored inside the structure and/or on top of the tray, and such that the worker may be able to transport their required tools from one area of a jobsite to the next while on the job without having to return to a single location for all of the tools (i.e. with a standard, non-mobile jobsite box). Further, the utility cart may also be customized to include unique features for a variety of jobsite needs.

In some embodiments, the plurality of wheels 116 includes a pair of main wheels and a pair of castor wheels. [0057] The utility cart 500 further includes a moveable handle 510. In some embodiments, the handle 510 has two positions in relation to the utility cart: engaged and disengaged. In the engaged position, the handle 510 maybe at a convenient height in order to allow a user to conveniently push or pull the utility cart 500. However, in the disengaged position, the handle 510 may be lowered to allow for an object to be placed atop the utility cart 500 that are oversized and extend beyond the edges of the utility cart 500. For example, in some embodiments, the base 502 of the utility cart 500 may include notches 516 and slots 518 such that the notches 516 may be designed to allow stoppers 512 of the handle 510 to rest therein when in the engaged position. To move from the engaged position to the disengaged position, the handle 510 is lifted such that the stoppers 512 are cleared from the notches 516, sliding components 514 coupled to the handle 510 slide away from the base 502 of the utility cart 500 through the slots 518, and the handle 510 is lowered to the disengaged position. To move from the disengaged position back to the engaged position, the handle 510 is raised, the sliding components 514 coupled to the handle 510 slide toward the base 502 of the utility cart 500 through the slots 518, and the handle 510 is lowered until the stoppers 512 engage the notches 516.

In such scenarios, a wheel drive motors may be connected to the utility cart and, when operating in follow mode, as a user moves with the worn small signaling device throughout a workspace environment, the utility cart may automatically follow the user based on received information at the wheel drive motors. Further, in some embodiments, the auxiliary tray on the utility cart may automatically rise or lower via the tray motor in response to the user moving upwards or downwards with the small signaling device, such as climbing a ladder, when operating in climbing mode. In some embodiments, a third assist mode may exist such that, when the user pushing on the cart handle activates the wheel drive motors, the wheel drive motors help the user to move a heavily loaded utility cart over rough terrain.
