Abstract
A tool for forming microparts of a desired size and/or spacing in hair can include a body with at least one notched edge, formed by notches and associated separators of different widths. The widths of the notches and adjacent separators can be matched to allow a user to select either a notch or separator of the desired measurement as a reference when forming a hair part. The tool may also include apertures for measuring the diameter of microlocs.
Claims
1. A tool for forming microparts, comprising: a generally planar body; and at least one notched edge bounding a portion of said body, said notched edge having a series of notches separated by separators, said notches each having a notch width varying in size and said separators each having a separator width that matches the notch width of one of said notches which is adjacent thereto.
2. The tool of claim 1 further comprising: indicia on said body aligned with said notches and providing an indication of the notch widths.
3. The tool of claim 1 wherein said notched edge is configured such that, for at least a subset of said notches, a notch depth increases with increasing notch width.
4. The tool of claim 1 further comprising: a series of sized apertures
5. The tool of claim 4 further comprising: aperture indicia on said body aligned with said apertures and providing an indication of the aperture sizes.
6. A measuring tool for hair, comprising: a generally planar body bounded by at least one notched edge having a series of notches separated by separators, said notches and said separators varying in width and each notch having a separator with matching width adjacent thereto.
7. The measuring tool of claim 6 wherein said notches and separators are positioned along one edge of said body.
8. The measuring tool of claim 7 wherein said notches and separators in crease in width across said one edge.
9. The measuring tool of claim 7 wherein, over at least a portion of said one edge, said notches increase in depth with increasing width.
10. The measuring tool of claim 6 wherein said separators are substantially square.
11. The measuring tool of claim 6 wherein said notch widths are multiples of 1/16.
12. The measuring tool of claim 6 wherein said notch widths are even multiples of millimeters.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0016] The specific details of the single embodiment or variety of embodiments described herein are to the described product or methods of use. Any specific details of the embodiments are used for demonstration purposes only and no unnecessary limitations or inferences are to be understood from there.
[0017] It is noted that the embodiments reside primarily in combinations of components and procedures related to the products. Accordingly, the product and components have been represented where appropriate by conventional symbols in the drawings, showing only those specific details that are pertinent to understanding the embodiments of the present disclosure so as not to obscure the disclosure with details that will be readily apparent to those of ordinary skill in the art having the benefit of the description herein.
[0018] In general, the embodiments described herein relate to a micro parting tool for separating hair into small parts, such as for styling into microlocs. The tool can include.
[0019] In some embodiments, any component of the tool can be made primarily of any suitable durable material. For example, in some embodiments, the tool can be made primarily of plastic, metal, or a combination thereof. In some embodiments, the tool can be made primarily of cellulose acetate, polyethylene, acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), nylon, polyvinyl chloride (PVC), any other suitable durable plastic, or any combination thereof.

[0021] The notches (106A, 106B, 106C, 106D, & 106E) and separators (108A, 108B, 108C, 108D, 108E, & 108F) have different widths, to provide a stylist with different measurements when forming microparts in hair. Each notch (106A, 106B, 106C, 106D, & 106E) has a notch width W.sub.N and an adjacent separator (108A, 108B, 108C, 108D, & 108E) with a matching separator width W.sub.S, allowing the stylist to readily select either the separator or the notch to form a hair part with the desired width as either a measurement of the part or a measurement of its spacing from an adjacent part. For example, as shown in
TABLE-US-00001 106A & 108A inch (~3 mm) 106B & 108B inch (~6.4 mm) 106C & 108C 5/16 inch (~8 mm) 106D & 108D inch (~9.5 mm) 106E & 108E inch (~12.7 mm)
[0022] As shown in
[0023] Some or all of the separators (108A, 108B, 108C, & 108D) can be substantially square, extending from a baseline 112 (shown in
[0024] The body 102 may be provided with a series of apertures (114A, 114B, 114C, 114D, & 114E) that vary in size, and can be used to measure the diameter of microlocs. As shown in
TABLE-US-00002 114A 2 mm 114B 3 mm 114C 4 mm 114D 5 mm 114E 6 mm
[0025] The body 102 may be provided with an auxiliary aperture 118 to allow it to be connected to a key ring or chain for convenient transport and/or storage.
