Abstract
A divider box assembly is provided which comprises a plurality of individual compartments formed from a plurality of transverse and longitudinal panels which interact with one another by way of slots. Such panels may be arranged to form high strength internal and external partitions which support stacking of a plurality of divider boxes and also providing increased resistance to rough handling during shipment and storage.
Claims
1. A divider box assembly containing a plurality of individual components, said divider box comprising: a series of substantially parallel transverse panels, each transverse panel having a top edge, a bottom edge, and a pair of side edges, said transverse panels having a series of slots extending from said bottom edge of each transverse panel upwardly, each transverse panel having a folded tab at each said side edge thereof; a series of substantially parallel longitudinal panels, each longitudinal panel having a top edge, a bottom edge, and a pair of side edges, said transverse panels having a series of slots extending from said top edge of each transverse panel downwardly, each longitudinal panel having a folded tab at each side edge thereof; said transverse panels and said longitudinal panels being perpendicularly disposed with said transverse panel slots being placed within said longitudinal panel slots to create a crate of individual compartments; said folded tabs of each said transverse panels being positioned such that an edge of each folded tab substantially abuts an adjacent transverse panel at a fold line of said adjacent transverse panel; a securing material applied to each folded tab of each said transverse panel such that said securing material overlaps at least a portion of a folded tab of said adjacent transverse panel.
2. The divider box assembly of claim 1, further comprising: a plurality of exterior panels, at least one exterior panel affixed to said tabs at a first end of said transverse panels, at least one exterior panel affixed to said tabs at a second end of said transverse panels.
3. The divider box assembly of claim 1, wherein said securing material is an adhesive tape.
4. A divider box assembly for a plurality of individual components, said assembly comprising: a series of transverse panels arranged substantially parallel to one another, each having a top edge, a bottom edge, side edges, a series of slots extending upwardly from the bottom edge, and a tab at each of the side edges folded at a fold line to extend substantially perpendicular to a portion of said transverse panels immediately adjoining said folded tab having the series of slots, wherein at least two of the transverse panels are exterior to a remaining portion of the transverse panels; a series of longitudinal panels arranged substantially parallel to one another and substantially perpendicular to the transverse panels, each having a top edge, a bottom edge, a pair of side edges, a series of slots extending downwardly from the top edge and mated within the slots of the transverse panels to define a series of individual compartments, and a tab at each of the side edges folded at a fold line to extend substantially perpendicular to a portion of the longitudinal panel immediately adjoining said folded tab having the series of slots, wherein at least two of the longitudinal panels are exterior to a remaining portion of the longitudinal panels; and wherein the folded tabs of said transverse panels form at least a portion of an enclosure of said divider box assembly; wherein the folded tabs of said transverse panels substantially abut adjacent ones of said transverse panels in a manner which, in at least some places, said folded tabs extend less than a distance between adjacent ones of said transverse panels to define gaps between said adjacent ones of said transverse panels; and securing material applied about an exterior facing perimeter of the enclosure for said divider box assembly such that said securing material bridges each of said gaps, wherein said enclosure is defined, at least in part, by said folded tabs of each of said transverse panels and the folded tabs of each of said longitudinal panels.
5. The divider box assembly of claim 4 further comprising: one or more exterior panels attached to exterior surfaces of the folded tabs of each of said transverse panels and exterior surfaces of the folded tabs of each of said longitudinal panels by way of the securing material to cover side surfaces of said divider box assembly and said gaps such that exterior surfaces of the folded tabs extend along interior surfaces of the one or more exterior panels, thereby forming an exterior enclosure for said divider box assembly where said securing material is interposed between said folded tabs and said one or more exterior panels and permanently affixes said folded tabs to said one or more exterior panels when applied;
6. The divider box assembly of claim 5 wherein; said securing material comprises one or more of: adhesive, tape, and staples.
7. The divider box assembly of claim 4 further comprising: a bottom fitted below each of said transverse panels and each of said longitudinal panels to cover a lower surface of said divider box assembly.
8. The divider box assembly of claim 7 further comprising: a top fitted atop each of said transverse panels and each of said longitudinal panels to cover an upper surface of said divider box assembly.
9. The divider box assembly of claim 4 wherein: said one or more exterior panels comprises four exterior panels.
10. The divider box assembly of claim 4 wherein: the securing material consists of the tape.
11. The divider box assembly of claim 4 wherein: each of the transverse panels comprise a first and second bend line defining, at least in part, said folded tabs; and said bend lines of each of said transverse panels are spaced apart from said slots.
12. A box assembly comprising: exterior panels arranged to define a storage area having a perimeter; partitioning panels extending within said storage area between two of said exterior panels, each comprising a first and second folded tab on a first and second end of a body thereof such that exterior surfaces of said folded tabs extend along interior surfaces of said two of said exterior panels and said body extends between said two of said exterior panels, wherein each of said bodies of said partitioning panels comprise slots, wherein a first subset of said bodies of said partitioning panels are oriented to intersect and mate with a second subset of said bodies of said partitioning panels at said slots to form a individual compartments within said storage area, wherein each of said folded tabs are sized to extend substantially all of a distance between adjacent ones of said bodies of said partitioning panels with a gap remaining in one or more places between a distal edge of one or more of said folded tabs and said body of said adjacent one of said partitioning panels; and securing material applied about said perimeter to each of said folded tabs to bridge each of said gaps, wherein said securing material, when applied, permanently affixes each of said folded tabs to the folded tab of said adjacent one of said partitioning panels, and permanently affixes said partitioning panels to said exterior panels; wherein said securing material comprises one or more of: adhesive, tape, and staples.
13. The box assembly of claim 12 wherein: the securing material consists of the tape.
14. The box assembly of claim 12 further comprising: a lid; and a bottom, wherein said lid and bottom are configured to be secured to upper and lower portions of said partitioning panels, respectively to enclose said storage area.
15. The box assembly of claim 12 further comprising: a bottom sized to accommodate two ones of said box assembly, wherein said bottom is configured to be secured to a lower portion of said partitioning panels of said two box assemblies to partially enclose the storage areas of said two box assemblies.
16. The box assembly of claim 12 wherein: each of said partitioning panels in said first subset extend perpendicular to each of said partitioning panels in said second subset of said partitioning panels; each of said first and second folded tabs on a given one of said partitioning panels extend in opposing directions.
17. The box assembly of claim 12 wherein: the securing material consists of the adhesive.
18. The box assembly of claim 12 wherein: each of the partitioning panels comprise a first and second bend line defining, at least in part, said folded tabs; and the bend lines of at least some of the partitioning panels are spaced apart from said slots of the associated partitioning panel.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION
[0021]
[0022] The disclosed divider box assembly may be useful in shipping individual component parts in individual compartments so as to prevent damage by the parts, for example, by bumping against each other during shipment. The disclosed divider box assembly can be shipped in a relatively flat, folded down configuration and then unfolded at the plant for stuffing with parts. The entire volume of the divider box may be used for storing component parts inasmuch as compartments fill the entire interior volume of the divider box.
