    Abstract

The present invention relates generally to a trimming guide to enable a person with or without particular skill, or a robot, or a computer, or a numerical device to cut a predetermined design, style or shape. More particularly, the invention relates to a trimming guide that would enable a person by him or herself, with or without training or particular skill, or through the use of a robot or a computer or a numerical device to trim his or her own hair, or another person’s hair to a quality, finished state which is a predetermined design, style or shape.

    Claims

    1. An apparatus comprising a trimming guide shaped to conform to an object, comprised of a top, a bottom, a back, a front, and sides as well as an outer edge of the guide to outline a trimming style, all of which is achieved by enabling material to protrude through the guide via porous or perforated openings at the same or dissimilar lengths, for purposes of trimming away unwanted material and leaving behind a predetermined style or shape.

    2. The trimming guide of claim 1, wherein the pattern and guide stretches and contracts upon use into a shape suitable for securing the trimming guide around a person’s head so as to conform to the contours of the head to secure the trimming guide and minimize gaps between the trimming guide and the head.

    3. The trimming guide of claim 1, wherein the guide is conformed to an object and comprised of a rigid material to allow resting of the guide against the object and protrusion of unwanted material through the guide without manipulation, allowing trimming of unwanted material into a predetermined style, shape or design, including trimming of the outermost edges of the front (bangs), ears and sideburns (sides) and nape of the neck (back lower portion).

    4. The trimming guide of claim 1, wherein the thickness of the trimming guide, and thus the length of material which remains after trimming, is varied to achieve a particular style or shape on the material that is left behind untrimmed.

    5. The trimming guide of claim 1, wherein the top of the guide is cut away and left entirely open to enable trimming of material according to the guide on the sides and back and outermost edges, and enabling unlimited trimming options on the top portion of the head while the guide is in use or after or allowing the top of the hair to be unaltered.

    6. The trimming guide of claim 1, wherein the top of the guide is solid so as to prevent any trimming of the top portion of the material while the guide is in use, thus enabling trimming of the material according to the guide on the sides and back and around the outermost edges, leaving the top portion open to alternative styling or left unaltered.

    7. The trimming guide of claim 1, wherein the trimming guide is configured to flex when the trimming guide is disposed on the head of a user so that the guide hugs the head of the wearer.

    8. The trimming guide of claim 1, wherein the trimming guide is secured to the object with a securing device such as a strap.

    9. A method of trimming unwanted material, such as hair, to a predetermined shape, style, or design, comprising the steps of: Placing a trimming guide over a structure, such as a person’s head; Securing the trimming guide in place, such as by properly fitting the cutting guide over the object, or by using a securing device such as a strap; Trimming unwanted material away as it is exposed through the trimming guide; Trimming the outer edges of the guide, such as around the nape of the neck, sideburns, ears, or bangs when used to trim a person’s hair;.

    10. The method of claim 9, wherein the trimming is only performed on the outer edges such as the nape of the neck, around the ears, on the sideburns and or the front section (bangs).

    11. The method of claim 9, wherein the trimming is performed by a person with or without particular skill, or a robot, or a computer, or a numerical device, ultimately achieving a predetermined design, style or shape.

    12. The method of claim 9 wherein the trimming is performed on one’s own hair or that of another.

    DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0025] The following description of the various embodiments are merely exemplary in nature and in no way intended to limit the invention, its application or uses. In the following detailed description of the illustrative embodiments, reference is made to the accompanying figures of the drawing which form a part hereof, and in which are shown, by way of illustration, specific embodiments which may be practiced. It is to be understood that other embodiments may be utilized and structural changes may be made without departing from (e.g., still falling within) the scope of the disclosure presented hereby.

[0026] Exemplary trimming guides shall generally be described with reference to FIGS. 1-9. It will be apparent to one skilled in the art that elements from one embodiment may be used in combination with elements of the other embodiments, and that the possible embodiments using features set forth herein are not limited to the specific embodiments described. Further. It will be recognized that the embodiments described herein will include many elements that are not necessarily shown to scale. Further, it will be recognized that the size and shape of various elements herein may be modified without departing from the scope of the present disclosure, although one or more shapes and sizes may be advantageous over others.

[0027] Referring to the FIGS. 1-6, the trimming guide has a top (1), a bottom (2), a front (3), a back (4) and sides (5). The trimming guide depicted in FIGS. 1-6 is conformed to the approximate size of the human head so as to fit snugly and hug the head of the user, thus allowing hair to protrude through the openings (6) for trimming. The size may be altered to fit persons with different sized heads. For example, there can be smaller sizes for children as well as different sized adult guides for persons with smaller or larger heads. The trimming guide is shaped so as to allow for final trimming of varying length, shape and style below the sideburns (7), around the ears (8), in the front of the head area for example for bangs (9), and at the nape of the neck (10).

[0028] FIG. 7 shows an embodiment where the top is left open for either unaltered styling or free form styling on the top of the head. The embodiment also would allow for a uniform trim on the top of the head using a trimming guide of any length or scissors. For example, clippers with a uniform guide could be used for the top portion of the head.

[0029] FIG. 8 shows an embodiment where the top is solid allowing for either unaltered styling or free form styling once the trimming guide is used and removed. The embodiment also would allow for a uniform trim on the top of the head using a trimming guide of any length or scissors. For example, clippers with a uniform guide could be used for the top portion of the head.

[0030] FIG. 9 shows another embodiment where the top of the guide is left open for either unaltered styling, free form styling, or styling using another means of trimming. The embodiment also would allow for a uniform trim on the top of the head using a trimming guide of any length or scissors. For example, clippers with a uniform guide could be used for the top portion of the head.
