DESCRIPTION OF EXEMPLIFICATION OR EXEMPLIFICATIONS
[0060]
[0061] Arranged between the housing elements 4, 5 is a clamping device 7 with three clamping elements 8a-8c. As an alternative, it is also possible for more than three clamping elements 8a-8c to be arranged, such as four, five, or six clamping elements 8a-8c. The clamping elements 8a-8c are arranged symmetrically or substantially symmetrically around the recess 6. Each clamping element 8a-8c is configured as flat and comprises a contact surface 9a-9c, which is provided for contact with the container 2 introduced into the recess 6 (see
[0062] Each clamping element 8a-8c is rotatably mounted about a rotation axle 10a-10c, and can be moved from a release position (
[0063] During the movement between the release position and the clamping/closed position, each clamping element 8a-8c runs through a curved trajectory. In the closed position, the clamping elements 8a-8c jointly close the recess 6.
[0064] The rotation axles 10a-10c are configured as rotation bolts, and are arranged in a longitudinal axial direction. That is to say, the rotation bolts 10a-10c stand perpendicular or substantially perpendicular on the plane of the housing elements 4, 5, and are arranged parallel or substantially parallel to the mid-axis A. Each rotation axle 10a-10c is arranged in a fixed position and eccentric to a clamping element 8a-8c.
[0065] In addition to this, each rotation bolt 10a-10c is mounted with a first end 11a-11c in a fixed position and rotatably in the second housing element 5. Its relative position to the second housing element 5 is not changeable.
[0066] By way of a second end 12a-12c (
[0067] The thrust guide 14a-14c is configured as curved and adapted to the radius of the housing elements 4, 5. The first and second housing elements 4, 5 are therefore arranged at a distance interval from one another, and connected to one another by way of the rotation axles 10a, 10c. The thrust guide 14a-14c allows for a rotational movement of the two housing elements 4, 5 against one another.
[0068] Each clamping element 8a-8c is coupled by way of a guide device 25a-25c to the housing elements 4, 5, as a result of which the clamping elements 8a-8c can be extended and retracted respectively by means of the rotational movement. The guide devices 25a-25c are identical.
[0069] Each guide device 25a-25c comprises link bolts 15a-15c mounted in a link guide 17a-17c. The link bolts 15a-15c are in each case mounted fixed in position, but if applicable also rotatable about a longitudinal axis at a clamping element 8a-8c. The longitudinal axis of the link bolts 15a-15c is aligned parallel or substantially parallel to the mid-axis A. The link bolts 15a-15c are mounted with a first section 16a-16c in each case in a link guide 17a-17c, arranged in the upper (second) housing element 5, this guide being configured as curved, and with a second section 19a-19c, opposite the first section 16a-16c, in a link guide 18a-18c, arranged in the lower (first) housing element 4 and configured as straight. Both link guides 17a-17c, 18a-18c are arranged obliquely to the radial direction.
[0070] In addition, a pre-tension is imposed at the clamping elements 8a-8c. For this purpose, in each case a spring 21a-21c is arranged at the first section 16a-16c of the link bolt 15a-15c, this spring being connected to a bearing element 20a-20c at the upper housing element 5. The springs 21a-21c are configured as tension springs, such that the clamping elements 8a-8c are held in the closed position (
[0071] In order to move the clamping elements 8a-8c out of the closed position into the release position (position 1a), the link guides 17a-17c in the upper housing element 5 and the link guides 18a-18c in the lower housing element 4 are matched to one another in such a way that, with a rotational movement of the housing elements 4, 5 against one another, the guide bolts 15a-15c are moved in the link guides 17a-17c, 18a-18c, wherein the clamping elements 8a-8c connected to the link bolts 15a-15c rotate outwards about the rotation axles 10a-10c, i.e. they are retracted, and clear the recess 6.
[0072] Due to the fact that the clamping elements 8a-8c are arranged in the circumferential direction of the housing elements 4, 5 at a uniform spacing interval from one another, the movement of the clamping elements 8a-8c out of the release position into the clamping position or closed position respectively, and the reverse movement also takes place uniformly (synchronously), such that, when a container 2 is clamped between the contact surfaces 9a-9c, a centering of the container 2 in the holding device 1 takes place automatically.
[0073]
[0074] One advantage of the unit can be seen in one possible exemplification in
[0075]
[0076] The clamping elements 8a-8c are in the clamping position, and in contact with the contact surfaces 9a-9c, beneath a flange 2b, symmetrically on the outside 2c of the container 2. Due to the pre-tension provided by the springs 21a-21c, a pressure tension is exerted onto the container 2.
[0077] Due to the uniform arrangement in the circumferential direction of the clamping elements 8a-8c, the container 2 is automatically in the central position, i.e. the container axis B and the mid-axis A of the recess 6 lie above one another.
[0078] In this exemplification (
[0079] The closure unit 22 with its centering tulip 24 is introduced by sections into the container opening 23 and closes this gas-tight. By way of the gas outlet opening 26, a medium, such as a gaseous medium, can be introduced into the container 2, in this case a plastic bottle, in order to create an overpressure in the plastic bottle and achieve shape stability of the outer wall.
[0080]
[0081]
[0082] Due to the springs 21a-21d which are provided, a pre-tension is imposed on the clamping elements 8a-8e, which holds them in the closed position shown.
[0083]
[0084] The radial movement of the clamping elements 8a-8e takes place at the rotational movement of the housing elements 4, 5, due to the link bolts 15a-15e mounted in the link guide 17a-17e, 18a-18e and connected to the clamping elements 8a-8e. The link bolts 15a-15e are displaced in the link guides 17a-17e, 18a-18e at the rotational movement.
[0085] The second exemplification differs from the first exemplification in that, instead of three clamping elements 8a-8c, five clamping elements 8a-8e are arranged, and the clamping elements 8a-8e are not configured as a central iris diaphragm closure but as a positive-fit closure, in which the clamping elements 8a-8e comprise contact surfaces 9a-9e which correspond with one another. In the closed position, the clamping elements 8a-8e are therefore not arranged above one another but abut against one another with their contact surfaces 9a-9e and thereby close the recess 6, in sections or completely.
[0086] Due to the two additional clamping elements 8d-8e, the container 2 is clamped between five contact surfaces 9a-9e, coming in contact in synchrony or substantially synchronously on the container 2, as a result of which a perceptibly more stable fixing of the container 2 in the central position is achieved. On the other hand, due to the configuration of the clamping elements 8a-8e as a positive-fit closure, each clamping element 8a-8e can be configured as perceptibly thicker and therefore more stable, without substantially changing the overall height of the holding device 1.
[0087] Corresponding to the configuration as a positive-fit closure, the clamping elements 8a-8e are in each case arranged parallel or substantially parallel to the housing elements 4, 5, while the clamping elements 8a-8c from the first exemplification (
[0088] In principle, holding devices 1 with three clamping elements 8a-8c as positive-fit closure, and, respectively, holding devices 1 comprising five clamping elements 8a-8e can also be configured as central closures.
[0089]
[0090] Mounting structure 27 holds housing element 5 in a fixed or stationary position, while drive device 28 imparts a rotational movement to housing element 4 to rotate housing element 4 with respect to housing element 5. In an alternative configuration, mounting structure 27 could hold housing element 4 in a stationary position, while drive device 28 could rotate housing element 5. In yet another alternative configuration, mounting structure 27 could be replaced with an additional drive device 28, such that both housing element 4 and housing element 5 could be rotated with respect to one another. The relative movement of the housing elements 4, 5 causes the movement of the clamping elements 8a-8e.
[0091] The present application relates to a holding and centering device for containers 2. The aim of the present application is to provide an improved holding and centering device which can be used for a plurality of different container types. This is achieved by providing a centering head with a recess 6 for introducing the container and a clamping device 7 arranged on the centering head 3 for clamping the container, wherein the clamping elements 8a, 8c of the clamping device are mounted in a movable manner in a radial direction between a clamping position, in which the clamping elements are extended into the recess, and a release position, in which the clamping elements are retracted.

[0118] Still another feature or aspect of an exemplification is believed at the time of the filing of this patent application to possibly reside broadly in a method of handling containers, such as beverage bottles, with a container handling arrangement, said handling arrangement comprising: a centering head being disk-shaped or ring-shaped with a central opening therein; said central opening being configured to permit insertion of a mouth portion of a container into said centering head; a clamping device being configured to clamp the container; said clamping device comprising at least three clamping elements disposed at said centering head and essentially equally spaced around said opening; said clamping elements being movable between a clamping position and a retracted position; said clamping elements being configured and disposed, upon being in said clamping position, to lie next to each other in the same plane, or to lie one on top of the other in layers; and said method comprising the steps of: inserting mouth portions of containers into said central openings in said centering heads; moving said clamping elements from said retracted position toward and into contact with neck portions of said containers; clamping said containers in said clamping position; and retracting said clamping elements and releasing said containers.
[0119] Yet another feature or aspect of an exemplification is believed at the time of the filing of this patent application to possibly reside broadly in the method, wherein: said container handling arrangement comprises closure units to close mouth openings of containers; said closure units are configured to introduce a pressure medium into containers to pressurize the containers; said containers comprise beverage bottles; and said method further comprises: closing mouth openings of said beverage bottles with said closure units; introducing a pressure medium into said beverage bottles via said closure units; and pressurizing said beverage bottles to reinforce the walls of said beverage bottles during labeling or printing of said beverage bottles.
[0120] A further feature or aspect of an exemplification is believed at the time of the filing of this patent application to possibly reside broadly in the method, wherein said method further comprises moving said clamping elements toward one another when a container is not being handled until said clamping elements completely cover said central opening to protect said closure units from contamination by contaminants passing through said central opening.
[0121] Another feature or aspect of an exemplification is believed at the time of the filing of this patent application to possibly reside broadly in the method, wherein said method further comprises: moving said clamping elements at essentially the same time and at essentially the same speed from said retracted position toward said containers; and clamping said containers in said clamping position by each of said clamping elements exerting essentially equal force.
[0122] Still another feature or aspect of an exemplification is believed at the time of the filing of this patent application to possibly reside broadly in the method, wherein containers comprise beverage bottles with annular flanges about the necks thereof, and said method further comprises moving said clamping elements into contact with said beverage bottles at neck portions of said beverage bottles under said annular flanges.
[0123] The components disclosed in the patents, patent applications, patent publications, and other documents disclosed or incorporated by reference herein, may possibly be used in possible exemplifications of the present invention, as well as equivalents thereof.
