    DETAILED DESCRIPTION

[0042] FIG. 1 shows a perspective view of an eye opening device (100) according to the invention. The eye opening device (100) is configured as an attachment (29) for an eye rinsing bottle (40) of an eye rinsing device (200). The eye opening device (100) comprises a cap-like portion (15) with a first substantially closed end (15a) and a sec- and open end (15b) which is attachable to an eye rinsing bottle (40). In the central part of the cap-like portion (15) at its first end (15a) a rinsing opening (22) is disposed. The cap-like portion (15) has the proximate shape of a hollow cylinder whose diameter may or may not be constant. In particular, the diameter at its second end (15b) is greater than the diameter at its first end (15a).

[0043] The eye opening device (100) comprises two wing-like spreading elements (10, 11), a first wing-like spreading element (10) and a second wing-like spreading element (11) being attached to the cap-like portion, especially at the first end (15a) of the cap-like portion (15). The wing-like spreading elements (10, 11) have a first end area (12) and a second end area (13). At the first end area (12) the wing-like spreading elements (10, 11) are attached to the cap-like portion, respectively. The second end areas (13) of each wing-like spreading element (10, 11) comprise a free end (16) of the respective wing-like spreading element (10, 11).

[0044] The wing-like spreading elements (10, 11) comprise a first side (18) being disposed towards the other wing-like spreading element (10, 11) and a second side (19) being the opposing side of the wing-like spreading (10, 11) and thus facing away from the other wing-like spreading element (10, 11). Hence, the first sides (18) of the two wing-like spreading elements (10, 11) face each other, while the second sides (19) are turned away respectively.

[0045] At its first sides (18) the wing-like spreading elements (10, 11) each comprise a con tact area (24) being characterized by a slip-resistant surface structure (26) for allowing a secure grip of a surrounding of an eye, especially the eye lids. The contact area (24) is disposed in the second end area (13). Furthermore, the cap-like portion (15) of the eye opening device (100) comprises two holding areas (25) for holding the eye opening device (100). The holding areas (25) are disposed at opposite sides of the cap-like portion, preferably underneath the wing-like spreading elements (10, 11).

[0046] Each wing-like spreading element (10, 11) comprises a lengthwise grove (30) extending in the first end area (12) at the second side (19) of the wing-like spreading element (10, 11). The lengthwise grove (30) extends along substantially the entire length (12a) of the first end area (12) being projected onto the longitudinal direction (31) of the eye opening device (100).

[0047] The wing-like spreading elements (10, 11) are formed such that two access gaps (21a, 21b) are formed laterally between the wing-like spreading elements (10, 11). Each wing-like spreading element (10, 11) has two longitudinal edges (20a, 20b). The access gaps (21a, 21b) are disposed between a longitudinal edge (20a, 20b) of the first wing-like spreading element (10) and the opposing longitudinal edge (20a, 20b) of the second wing-like spreading element (11).

[0048] In FIG. 2 a top view on the eye opening device according to FIG. 1 is shown. The wing-like spreading elements (10, 11) have a width (23a) at their first end areas (12) and a width at their middle areas (14) which correspond to each other. However, the width (23b) at the second end area (13) at each wing-like spreading element (10, 11) is larger than the widths (23b, 23c) at the first end area (12) and the middle area (14). The cap-like portion (15) comprises a smallest outer diameter (15c) at its first end (15a). The smallest outer diameter (15c) is greater than the widths (23a, 23c, 23b) of the wing-like spreading elements (10, 11). The contact areas (24) extend in the second end area (13) along a length which corresponds to the width (23b) in the first end area (13).

[0049] The longitudinal edge (20a) of the first wing-like spreading element (10) faces the longitudinal edge (20a) of the second wing-like spreading element (11). In between these edges (20a), i.e. laterally between the wing-like spreading elements (10, 11) the access gap (21a) is disposed. The same applies to the longitudinal edges (20b), wherein also the longitudinal edge (20b) of the first wing-like spreading element (10) faces the longitudinal edge (20b) of the second wing-like spreading element (11) so that in between the access gap (21b) is formed.

[0050] In FIG. 3 a side view of an eye opening device (100) according to FIGS. 1 and 2 is shown. It can be clearly seen that the diameter of the cap-like portion is greater at its second end (15b) compared to its first end (15a). The holding areas (25) are disposed at opposite sides of the outer surface of the cap-like portion.

[0051] The wing-like spreading elements (10, 11) are formed such that the first end area (12) has a length (12a), the second end area (13) a length (13a) and the middle area (14) a length (14a), each projected onto the longitudinal direction (31) of the eye opening device (100). The length (12a) and the length (13a) are smaller than the length (14a).

[0052] In FIG. 3 the curvatures of the first end area (12) and the second end area (13) can well be seen. The second end area (13) is curved such that the furthest point (17) from the first end area (12) is not the free end (16). Exemplary two points (13b, 13c) have been drawn into FIG. 3 within the second end area (13) which are connected linearly by an imaginary secant line (13d). This secant line (13d) is disposed at the second side (19) of the wing-like spreading element (11) facing away from the other wing-like spreading element (10). In the first end area (12) also two exemplary points (12b, 12c) as well as a connecting secant line (12d) are shown. The secant line (12d) of the first end area (12) is disposed at the first side (18) of the wing-like spreading element (11) facing the other wing-like spreading element (10).

[0053] The lengthwise groves (30) supporting each wing-like spreading element (10, 11) in its first end area (12) extends along the entire length (12a) of the first end area (12). The slip-resistant surface structures (26) of the contact areas (24) and the holding areas (25) are formed by small profiled bars.

[0054] FIG. 4 depicts a side view on the eye opening device according to FIGS. 1 to 3 which is rotated 90° compared to the side view of FIG. 3. It can well be seen that the free end (16) of each wing-like spreading element (10, 11) is configured slightly rounded. Furthermore, the furthest point (17) is disposed above the free end (16) in longitudinal direction (31) of the eye opening device (100). The width of the lengthwise grove (30) is about one fifth of the width (23a) of the wing-like spreading element (10, 11) in its first end area (12).

[0055] In FIG. 5 a section along the cutting line A-A of FIG. 4 is shown. The cap-like portion (15) comprises an interior space (15d). Furthermore, it has the rinsing opening (22) at its first end (15a) and another opening (15e) at its second end (15b) for attachment to a rinsing bottle (40) of an eye rinsing device (200). At its second end the cap-like portion comprises a sealing member (27a) embodied by a sealing lip (28) ex-tending slightly into the interior space (15d) of the cap-like portion (15). The sealing member (27a) serves to seal the interior space (15d) of the cap-like portion (15) from its second end (15b) such that no rinsing fluid can enter the interior space (15d) from the second end (15b). Furthermore, the cap-like portion (15) comprises a sealing member (27b), namely a sealing lip (28), at its first end (15a). The sealing member (27b) is disposed at the rinsing opening (21) and serves to avoid that rinsing fluid flows into the interior space (15d) from the first end (15a).

[0056] FIG. 6 shows a perspective view on an eye rinsing device (200) comprising the eye opening device (100) according to FIGS. 1 to 5. The eye rinsing device comprises an eye rinsing bottle (40) containing rinsing fluid. The eye rinsing bottle (40) is configured as a squeezable bottle (42).

[0057] In FIG. 7 a perspective view on another eye rinsing device (200) comprising an eye opening device (100) according to FIGS. 1 to 5 is shown. The eye rinsing device (200) has an eye rinsing bottle (40) which is configured as a spray can (41). An actuator of the spray can (41) is disposed underneath the holding areas (25) so that the discharge of rinsing fluid can be activated by pressing the holding areas (25).
