The base section of the tool is snugly received in the tool receiving gap between the tool mounting surface and the protuberance in abutment with the tool mounting surface, the processing section of the tool extending past the protuberance. A displaceable material processing head and method of mounting a material processing tool to a mounting block secured to a displaceable head are also discussed.

A membrane for covering the cut end of a tree trunk to prevent the tree from creating a seal after it has been cut. The membrane is attachable to the cut end surface of the tree trunk and includes a hydrating layer comprising a hydrogel. The hydrogel, made up primarily of water, adheres to the cut end surface of the tree trunk to continue hydrating the tree, and prevents air from reaching the tree's exposed transport tissue. In some embodiments, the membrane includes a backing layer and a release layer on opposite sides of the hydrating layer.

In a first aspect, an aerial platform operates above trees and captures imagery of the trees suitable for detecting indicators of insect infestation. In a third aspect, the capturing of imagery of the trees is performed by a camera that dynamically adjusts the point of focus relative to the ground and/or top of the trees. In particular embodiments, the imagery is oblique imagery. In selected embodiments, the capturing of imagery comprises down-sampling or discarding portions of the imagery. In portions of some embodiments, the detection employs machine-learning techniques, such as convolved neural nets.
