AEROGEL-CONTAINING INSULATION LAYER
Applying aerogel-containing insulation layer(s) to an article. The insulation layer comprising: aerogel particles; and at least one binder, comprising the steps of: providing the article to be coated; mixing the aerogel particles with the particles of a pulverulent binder and/or a pulverulent solid, for example expanded glass, to give a particle mixture; applying the particle mixture to the article to be coated by scattering the particle mixture onto the article to be coated; and activating the at least one binder of the at least one insulation layer, in order to provide a bond of the particle mixture to the article, wherein the aerogel particles are present in the particle mixture in a proportion of 5 to 95 percent by weight of the particle mixture.
COATING COMPOSITION WITH HIGH SOLIDS CONTENT, AND METHOD FOR FORMING MULTILAYER COATING FILM
A high-solid-content coating composition including: (A) an acrylic resin containing a hydroxyl group and an alkoxysilyl group; (B) a polyester resin containing a hydroxyl group; and (C) a polyisocyanate compound, in which the acrylic resin (A) containing a hydroxyl group and an alkoxysilyl group is contained in an amount of 20 to 50 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of resinous solid components of the high-solid-content coating composition, the polyester resin (B) containing a hydroxyl group has an acid value of 10 mg-KOH/g or less, a hydroxyl value of 180 to 300 mg-KOH/g, and a number-average molecular weight of 400 to 1,500, and the coating composition, when being applied, has a solid content of 50 mass % or more.
COATING COMPOSITION WITH HIGH SOLIDS CONTENT, AND METHOD FOR FORMING MULTILAYER COATING FILM
A high-solid-content coating composition including: (A) an acrylic resin containing a hydroxyl group and an alkoxysilyl group; (B) a polyester resin containing a hydroxyl group; and (C) a polyisocyanate compound, in which the acrylic resin (A) containing a hydroxyl group and an alkoxysilyl group is contained in an amount of 20 to 50 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of resinous solid components of the high-solid-content coating composition, the polyester resin (B) containing a hydroxyl group has an acid value of 10 mg-KOH/g or less, a hydroxyl value of 180 to 300 mg-KOH/g, and a number-average molecular weight of 400 to 1,500, and the coating composition, when being applied, has a solid content of 50 mass % or more.
METHOD FOR FORMING A MULTILAYER COATING FILM
A method includes a step of applying an aqueous 2-package type first colored paint to form an uncured first colored coating film; a step of applying an aqueous 1-package type second colored paint to form an uncured second colored coating film; a step of applying a solvent-based 2-package type clear paint to form an uncured clear coating film; and a step of heating the uncured first colored coating film, the uncured second colored coating film and the uncured clear coating film to 75 to 100° C. to simultaneously cure these films. The solvent-based 2-package type clear paint contains a hydroxyl group-containing acrylic resin and a polyisocyanate compound in a ratio of 1.5 to 2.0 equivalents of isocyanate groups in the polyisocyanate compound relative to 1 equivalent of hydroxyl groups in the hydroxyl group-containing acrylic resin.
READILY ADHESIVE POLYESTER FILM AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING SAME
This invention provides a readily adhesive polyester film that has fewer flaws and in which no appearance defects occur due to tight winding during the storage of rolled products, and a method for efficiently producing the readily adhesive polyester film. More specifically, this invention provides a readily adhesive polyester film comprising a polyester film as a base film and a readily adhesive layer on at least one side of the base film, wherein the base film contains particles with an average particle diameter of 0.1-2 μm or more in an amount of 1 mass % or less based on the mass of the base film, and the readily adhesive layer is a cured product of a composition comprising a copolymerized polyester resin (A), a blocked isocyanate group-containing urethane resin (B), and a silicone surfactant (C). This invention also provides a method for producing a readily adhesive polyester film.
METHOD FOR MANUFACTURING A SPECIAL EFFECT PIGMENT USING AN EMULSION
A method of making pigments, such as special effect pigment includes forming a first slurry including a substrate, a polymer precursor, and a radical initiator; forming a solution including an emulsifier; and combining the first slurry and the solution so that the substrate is encapsulated by a first coating. Special effect pigments formed by the method are also disclosed.
Method for Treating Exterior Lumber Products
A method of treating a surface of wood products to inhibit the uptake of moisture into the wood by providing an aqueous formulation comprising polyethylene-vinyl acetate in water, 2-99 percent polyethylene-vinyl acetate by weight. The aqueous formulation is applied to the surface of wood products, wherein the wood products remain outdoors or in a damp environment having 60% or greater relative humidity. The aqueous formulation is allowed to dry and form a micro-film on the surface of the wood products. The moisture content in the wood products is maintained at 16 percent or less. A pesticide effect on the surface of the wood products is produced, inhibiting infestation of the wood products by insects.
CORROSION PROTECTION FOR METALLIC SUBSTRATES
A tiecoat coating composition for use in a coating system for a metallic substrate comprising at least three coating layers is disclosed. The system has a primer coating layer which overlies the metallic substrate, a tiecoat coating layer which overlies the primer coating layer, and a finish coating layer which overlies the tiecoat coating layer. The primer coating layer is formed from a primer composition, the tiecoat coating layer is formed from a tiecoat composition, and the finish coating layer is formed from a finish composition. The primer composition comprises a primer carrier medium and a primer corrosion inhibitor in which the primer inhibitor has a galvanic cathodic mechanism. The finish composition is formulated to give a predetermined surface texture and appearance. The tiecoat composition comprises a tiecoat carrier medium and a tiecoat corrosion inhibitor. The tiecoat corrosion inhibitor has a barrier mechanism.

A gas barrier laminate including a resin substrate, a first coating layer containing a carboxylic acid polymer; and a second coating layer containing a polyvalent metal compound and a resin, laminated in this order; a ratio of a thickness of the second coating layer to the first coating layer in the range of 1.0 or more and 4.0 or less; and the second coating layer satisfies at least one of the following: (condition 1) a haze of the second coating layer is 8% or less; (condition 2) a surface roughness Ra of the second coating layer is ½ or less of the thickness of the second coating layer; and (condition 3) the number of concave portions having a diameter of 1.5 μm or more per unit area on a surface of the second coating layer opposite to the first coating layer is 2/0.01 mm.sup.2 or less.
