Plastic film and a method for manufacturing same

The present invention relates to a plastic film and a method for manufacturing same. A plastic film, which is formed such that at least one part has a curved shape, can have high hardness, impact resistance, scratch resistance and high transparency. The plastic film is light and will not be easily damaged by external pressure and thus can substitute for the existing glass and is expected to be used for various electronic products such as a display and the like. In particular, the plastic film has at least one part in a curved shape and thereby is expected to be used for products in various shapes which cannot be manufactured by means of the existing glass. Moreover, a method for manufacturing a plastic film enables manufacturing of a plastic film having at least one part in a curved shape without curls or cracks as well as simultaneous performing of heat molding and heat curing, thereby increasing the productivity of a plastic film.

Crosslinked coating compositions for packaging articles such as food and beverage containers

A method of forming a coating on a food or beverage container, which includes spraying a coating composition onto an interior surface of the food or beverage container, where the coating composition includes a latex copolymer and a metal drier or crosslinking agent. The latex copolymer is a reaction product of monomers that include (a) one or more styrene-mimicking monomers containing one or more cyclic groups and one or more ethylenically-unsaturated groups, at least a portion of such styrene-mimicking monomers being polycyclic monomers containing ring unsaturation, and (b) one or more other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. Preferably, the coating composition is substantially free of each of BPA, PVC, other halogenated monomers, and optionally styrene. The method may also include curing the sprayed coating composition, thereby providing the coating on the interior surface of the food or beverage container.

Container coating compositions

A coating composition comprising a polyester, a mixture of novolak and resole resins and a vinyl chloride polymer, and the use of these compositions to coat metal containers is disclosed.

A method of forming a coating on a food or beverage container, which includes spraying a coating composition onto an interior surface of the food or beverage container, where the coating composition includes a latex copolymer and a metal drier or crosslinking agent. The latex copolymer is a reaction product of monomers that include (a) one or more styrene-offset monomers containing one or more cyclic groups and one or more ethylenically-unsaturated pendant groups, at least a portion of such styrene-offset monomers being polycyclic monomers containing ring unsaturation, and (b) one or more other ethylenically-unsaturated monomers. Preferably, the coating composition is substantially free of BPA, PVC, and styrene. The method may also include curing the sprayed coating composition, thereby providing the coating on the interior surface of the food or beverage container.

Polymer coated substrate for packaging applications and a method for producing said coated substrate

This relates to a coated substrate for packaging applications and a method for producing the coated substrate.

TAILORED MATERIAL PROPERTIES USING INFRARED RADIATION AND INFRARED ABSORBENT COATINGS

A method of manufacturing a structural component having tailored material properties by applying an IR-absorbent coating to a substrate formed of a ferrous-based, aluminum-based, magnesium-based, or fiber reinforced composite material is provided. The coating is preferably formed of iron oxide (Fe.sub.30.sub.4) decorated multiwall carbon nanotubes. Alternatively, the coating is wax-based or polymer-based and includes TriSilanollsooctylt POSS and additives. Different coating compositions may be applied to different zones of the substrate so that the emissivity coefficient varies along the substrate. The coated substrate is heated and formed between a pair of dies to achieve a complex shape or features. The IR-absorbent coating increases the infrared absorption rate during the heating step, which improves formability of the substrate. The iron oxide (Fe.sub.30.sub.4) decorated multiwall carbon nanotubes can also be applied to an engine component to increase the thermal efficiency of the engine by reducing friction and enabling the use of light weight materials.

SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR DECORATING METALS WITH MORE THAN ONE COLOR

A method for applying a layer of a second color according to a predetermined pattern, on at least one face of a metal substrate, which is entirely painted with a first color comprising applying a primer according to a predetermined pattern onto at least one face of a metal substrate, applying thereto a UV curable powder coating comprising a second color that is different from the first color, removing excess of UV curable powder coating such that the UV curable powder coating remains only at a location on the metal substrate determined by the primer, activating IR and UV energy in order to cure the UV curable powder coating, and forming a metal substrate decorated with at least two colors according to the predetermined pattern on at least one face of the metal substrate, and a system for performing the same.

Method for making water-dispersible and water-dispersed polymers

Water-dispersible or water-dispersed polymers are made by reacting (i) an unsaturated monomer containing one or more cyclic carbonate groups, or (ii) an unsaturated or saturated oligomer or polymer containing a plurality of cyclic carbonate groups, with a tertiary amine in the presence of an acid, or with an acid in the presence of a tertiary amine, or in the presence of an acid and a tertiary amine, to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed monomer, oligomer or polymer. When step a) provides a monomer or oligomer, the monomer or oligomer is reacted with one or more monomers in the presence of an initiator to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed polymer. When step a) provides a polymer, the polymer is optionally used to support emulsion polymerization of one or more unsaturated monomers in the presence of an initiator to provide a water-dispersible or water-dispersed further polymer.
