A battery management system includes at least one cell monitoring unit with a plurality of cell voltage terminals, supply lines coupled to the cell voltage terminals, and a cell monitoring circuit made of a plurality of electronic semiconductor modules connected in parallel via the supply lines. The battery management system is configured to monitor a plurality of battery cells via the cell monitoring unit. The battery cells are in each case connected on both sides with their respective positive battery cell terminal and negative battery cell terminal to the battery management system via the cell voltage terminals. Furthermore, one or several supply lines are provided with a melt fuse so that in each battery cell that is connected to the battery management system at least one supply line coupled to the battery cell comprises a melt fuse in its current path.

Rechargeable battery

A rechargeable battery includes an electrode assembly having first and second electrodes at opposite sides of a separator and wound about an axis; a first terminal coupled to the first electrode through a first tab; a second terminal coupled to the second electrode through a second tab; a case accommodating the electrode assembly and including first and second openings at its opposite ends; a first gasket between the first terminal and the first opening, the first gasket sealing the first opening and allowing the first terminal to protrude outside of the case; and a second gasket between the second terminal and the second opening, the second gasket sealing the second opening and allowing the second terminal to protrude outside of the case. The case may further include a fixing portion at its inner side that protrudes toward the electrode assembly.

To provide a cathode active material for a non-aqueous electrode rechargeable battery, with which it is possible to improve input/output characteristics, particularly by reducing resistance in a low SOC state in which DCIR increases, and to provide a manufacturing method for same. The cathode active material includes layered hexagonal crystal lithium nickel manganese composite oxide particles represented by the general formula (A): Li.sub.1+uNi.sub.xMn.sub.yCo.sub.zM.sub.tO.sub.2 (where 0≦u≦0.20, x+y+z+t=1, 0.30≦x ≦0.70, 0.10≦y≦0.55, 0≦z≦0.40, 0≦t≦0.10, and M is one or more elements selected from Al, Ti, V, Cr, Zr, Nb, Mo, and W), and further including Na, Mg, Ca and SO.sub.4, in which the total amount of Na, Mg and Ca is 0.01 to 0.1 mass %, the amount of SO.sub.4 is 0.1 to 1.0 mass %, and the ratio of the integrated intensity of the diffraction peak on plane (003) to that on plane (104) obtained by powder X-ray diffraction measurement using CuKα rays is 1.20 or greater.
